Outpost Stage 2
If Outpost Stage 2 is still pending, reserve the amount shown in the project panel before using Sheet Metal elsewhere. The item reference records a five-piece requirement. Treat the number as a current project value, not as a permanent rule: a balance patch or a different game build can alter a material list.

The Sheltered Retreat project is the other confirmed contemporary use. The guide that identifies it places the project after you photograph the Ruined Homestead, so it may not appear as an immediate objective for a new player. Once the project becomes available, open its materials list and check whether the required quantity matches the guide. The live panel takes priority over any external list.

Should you save Sheet Metal or spend it?
Save it when either of the two projects is unfinished or likely to become available soon. Sheet Metal has a 50-item stack size according to the item reference, so keeping a partial stack is usually practical and does not require a separate slot for every piece. The useful decision is not whether the material is “rare”; it is whether your next Outpost project has claimed it.
Use the following order when deciding what to do with a small supply:
- Open the Outpost project screen and note whether Outpost Stage 2 still lists Sheet Metal.
- Check whether Sheltered Retreat is unlocked and whether its material list is active.
- Reserve enough for the earliest active project, plus a small buffer only if your inventory allows it.
- Spend any remainder only after checking the current crafting interface for another recipe that consumes it.
The item reference does not list a recycling or salvaging route for Sheet Metal. That means you should not assume an unwanted piece can be converted back into another resource. If the interface offers a recycle action for the item in your current build, read the confirmation panel carefully; the official help explains how to reach item details and choose Recycle, but it does not establish a specific Sheet Metal return value.

There are two documented acquisition paths: purchase it from Celeste or find it while scavenging. The guide describes technological and industrial areas as more likely sources. “More likely” is a probability cue, not a guaranteed spawn rule; Sheet Metal can appear elsewhere.
Buy it from Celeste
Celeste is the named trader associated with Sheet Metal in the current guide. Check her stock whenever you are preparing an Outpost project or returning from a scavenging run. Merchant inventories are game-state data and can change, so do not plan around a permanent quantity or a fixed price unless the live shop shows it.
Buying is the predictable option when you need to finish a project immediately and have the required currency available. It also avoids spending raid time searching for a material whose spawn is not guaranteed. If Celeste does not offer the item in your session, use scavenging rather than assuming the guide’s stock is universal across builds or rotations.
Scavenge technological and industrial areas
Technological and industrial locations have the highest stated likelihood of producing Sheet Metal. Start there when you are choosing between otherwise similar search areas. The sources do not identify a single guaranteed container, room, or map coordinate, so a route that promises an exact spawn would overstate the evidence.

Other areas
Sheet Metal may appear in places that are neither technological nor industrial. Those areas are lower-priority recommendations, not prohibited locations. Use them when a mission path already takes you there, when the higher-probability zones are contested, or when you are checking ordinary loot while pursuing another objective. Keep the distinction clear: the guide reports likelihood, not exclusivity or certainty.
How to verify the current use in the game
Embark’s field-crafting help describes an in-game way to check recipes and filter them by the materials you hold. Use that interface as the final authority for your build.
- Open the field-crafting interface from the normal in-game menu.
- Review the available recipe list. The interface is designed to show what can be crafted with your current state.
- Apply the filter for items that are buildable with the materials you currently hold. This narrows the list to recipes you can meet now.
- Open a relevant project or recipe to display its material breakdown, then look specifically for Sheet Metal and the required count.
- Before leaving the screen, compare the requirement with the amount in your inventory so you do not spend a reserved piece accidentally.
This process answers two different questions: whether a recipe exists in your current version and whether you have enough material to complete it. The official help supports the interface workflow; it does not itself document the Outpost Stage 2 or Sheltered Retreat quantities. For those item-specific claims, use the live project panel rather than treating a guide as immutable.

Use item details carefully
The official help also explains that an item can be opened in its details to choose Recycle. Seeing that button does not mean recycling is a good use of Sheet Metal. The community item reference reports no recycling or salvaging route for this resource, so inspect the return preview and confirmation text before accepting any conversion. If the preview does not show a useful return, cancel and keep the item for a project.

Inventory strategy for a 50-item stack
The listed stack limit is 50 pieces. That limit helps you plan space, but it does not tell you how many projects will appear in a future patch. Keep a stack intact when possible so the project count is easy to read and you avoid scattering the same material across storage locations.
- Before a project: compare your current amount with the active requirement and reserve the needed pieces.
- During scavenging: pick up Sheet Metal when you have room, especially in technological or industrial areas, but do not discard a confirmed project component for an unverified recipe.
- At the trader: check Celeste before committing to a long search route; a purchase can be the faster way to close a known shortfall.
- After completion: recheck the crafting list before deciding that the remainder is surplus. Requirements can be added or changed by updates.
- Before recycling: open the item details and read the return result. The published item data does not document a salvage benefit.
No current quests requiring Sheet Metal are listed by the item reference. That is useful for short-term prioritization because you do not need to reserve a separate quest quota today. It is also explicitly time-sensitive: a later quest, event, or update could change that status.

The project is active but you lack a few pieces
Check Celeste first, then target technological and industrial areas on your next scavenging run. If neither path produces enough, inspect lower-priority areas while following an existing route; the material is not restricted to the favored categories. Reopen the project screen after each run because the displayed requirement is the number that matters for completion.

Open the field-crafting list and apply the current-material filter. A project may not be available until its preceding objective is complete; Sheltered Retreat, for example, is associated with the Ruined Homestead photograph step. If no recipe appears, keep the material rather than recycling it solely because the item has no immediate prompt.

A guide and your game disagree
Prefer the live game screen, record the build or update context for your own notes, and treat the older value as historical guidance. Community-maintained item pages and published guides can lag behind a patch, while merchant stock and loot patterns can vary by game state. An apparent mismatch does not prove that either source is wrong; it may reflect a changed version or an unlock condition you have not reached.
What is not established about Sheet Metal
The available evidence does not establish a guaranteed map location, a fixed container type, a permanent Celeste inventory, a universal price, or a complete list of every future recipe. It also does not provide a named statistic such as a drop rate. Avoid guides or routes that present the technological and industrial-area hint as a guaranteed spawn schedule.
