The exact edition name—and why it matters
The product commonly called “Tomb Raider: The 20th Anniversary Edition” is officially titled Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration. It is an expanded release of Rise of the Tomb Raider, not a remaster or renamed version of Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

The base game: what you are actually buying
The centerpiece is the full Rise of the Tomb Raider campaign. Lara travels through harsh environments, explores large areas, solves environmental puzzles, fights hostile forces and wildlife, and searches for the source of an ancient mystery. The anniversary edition does not replace that campaign; it adds optional stories, modes, difficulty settings and cosmetic items around it.
If you have never played Rise of the Tomb Raider, the 20 Year Celebration edition is therefore a complete starting point rather than a DLC-only purchase. If you already own the base game, check your platform account before purchasing: the value of this edition is primarily the bundled Season Pass material and bonus content.

New story and challenge content
Blood Ties
Blood Ties is a story chapter located in Croft Manor, Lara’s childhood home. Lara explores the manor and uncovers a mystery involving the Croft family. It provides a more personal, investigation-focused setting than the main game’s wilderness expeditions.

On PlayStation, Blood Ties is also the part of the package specifically identified as supporting PlayStation VR. The VR feature is limited to this chapter rather than turning the entire campaign into a VR game.
Lara’s Nightmare
Lara’s Nightmare uses Croft Manor as the setting for a combat scenario. Instead of investigating the house in a conventional story sequence, Lara must defend it from undead hordes. The mode is designed around repeated combat encounters and offers a different tone from the campaign and Blood Ties.
Co-op Endurance
Endurance is an online survival mode in which players manage extreme conditions while attempting to stay alive and progress. The 20 Year Celebration edition adds a co-operative version for playing with a friend. It is separate from the single-player campaign, so both players need the appropriate online access and platform account features required by their system.
The available product descriptions identify Co-op Endurance as an online mode, but they do not establish identical online requirements, subscription policies or matchmaking behavior for every platform. Check the relevant storefront and console service before planning a session.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Extreme Survivor difficulty
Extreme Survivor is an additional difficulty option for the main campaign. It is intended for players who want a stricter challenge than the standard settings. Because it changes the campaign’s difficulty rather than adding a new story, it is most useful for a second playthrough or for players who prefer demanding survival mechanics from the start.
Previously released DLC in the package
The edition is described as including the Season Pass and all previously released downloadable content. Two named story and challenge additions are:
- Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch: a supernatural story expansion that sends Lara into a new mystery involving the witch Baba Yaga.
- Cold Darkness Awakened: a survival-focused expansion built around a dangerous outbreak and hostile threats.
Feral Interactive’s Steam FAQ also confirms included content such as Blood Ties, Lara’s Nightmare and Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch. The official product and PlayStation descriptions use the broader “Season Pass” and “all previously released downloadable content” wording. That means the package is intended to be comprehensive, but a particular storefront’s current listing remains the final authority for the platform-specific entitlement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The edition adds a Tomb Raider III-inspired outfit and weapon. These are cosmetic and equipment bonuses tied to the earlier game, giving the modern Lara a visual connection to the classic era.

PlayStation, Xbox and Steam: what is confirmed
The official franchise page provides purchase paths for PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. The available platform information is most specific for PlayStation, so do not assume that every technical feature is identical across systems.
| Platform | Confirmed information | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 4 | The PlayStation Store lists Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration for PS4 with a release date of October 11, 2016. The listing describes the base game, Season Pass content and the included extras. | PSVR support is specified for Blood Ties, not the entire game. |
| PlayStation 5 | The PS4 game is playable on PS5 according to the PlayStation listing. | Some PS4 features may be absent. The PS5 VR note calls for a PlayStation Camera adaptor and recommends a DUALSHOCK 4 for the best PSVR experience. |
| Xbox | The official franchise page provides an Xbox purchase path. | The available material does not establish the exact current storefront package, hardware-specific features or retail availability. |
| Steam | Feral Interactive’s FAQ confirms Steam edition DLC such as Blood Ties, Lara’s Nightmare and Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch. | The available material does not establish identical packaging, current price or stock compared with console editions. |
How PSVR works on PlayStation
On PlayStation, the VR feature applies to Blood Ties. The PlayStation listing says a PlayStation VR headset and PlayStation Camera are required for those features. Owning the anniversary edition alone does not provide the headset or camera.
When using the PS4 version on PS5, the listing notes that some PS4 features may be unavailable. Its PS5 VR guidance calls for a PlayStation Camera adaptor and recommends a DUALSHOCK 4 controller for the best PSVR experience. These requirements are specific to PlayStation; they should not be treated as requirements for Xbox or Steam.

How much content is there?
The PlayStation Store advertises “over 50 hours of gameplay.” This is a promotional figure supplied by that storefront, not a guaranteed completion time. Actual playtime depends on difficulty, exploration, optional challenges, collectibles, downloadable episodes and whether you replay the campaign.
The same listing advertises more than 85 award nominations. That figure means nominations, not awards won, and it is a storefront claim rather than an independently verified measurement. Treat both numbers as indicators of the package’s breadth, not promises about the hours every player will receive.
Why the anniversary branding was used
In a July 19, 2016 PlayStation Blog announcement, Scot Amos, identified as Co-head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics, wrote: “A mere ‘Game of the Year’ wouldn’t satisfy us or our fans.” The statement explains why the release was presented as a larger celebration package rather than a simple reissue. The final product combines the campaign, Season Pass content, new modes, classic-inspired items and the Croft Manor chapter in one edition.

How to identify the right listing
- Look for the full name: the listing should say Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration.
- Confirm the platform: check whether it is a PS4, PS5-compatible PS4, Xbox or Steam product.
- Check the content description: look for the base game plus Season Pass, Blood Ties, Lara’s Nightmare, Co-op Endurance and Extreme Survivor.
- Verify the DLC language: references to Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, Cold Darkness Awakened or all previously released DLC indicate the expanded package.
- Check VR wording separately: on PlayStation, confirm that the listing’s Blood Ties VR support and required hardware match your setup.
- Review the seller’s edition and region: current prices, stock, physical packaging and entitlements can change, and the available product information does not establish that every marketplace offers the same bundle.
Who should choose this edition?
- New players: choose it when you want the main campaign and its major add-ons in one purchase.
- Story-focused players: Blood Ties and Baba Yaga provide additional narrative material beyond the campaign.
- Challenge seekers: Extreme Survivor and Endurance add tougher ways to play.
- Players with a friend online: Co-op Endurance is the relevant addition, subject to your platform’s online-service requirements.
- Classic-series fans: the Tomb Raider III-inspired outfit, weapon and five classic skins supply the main nostalgia bonuses.
- Existing owners: compare your current DLC entitlements with the Season Pass contents before buying a second copy.
What the available information does not establish
The edition’s content is documented, but several purchasing details are not fixed by the product descriptions. They do not establish today’s retail price, current digital stock, the contents of a particular physical package, or identical packaging across PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. A store may also present platform-specific compatibility notes that are not shown in another storefront.
For that reason, use the official listing for your platform to verify the edition name, included entitlements, compatibility and any required accessories immediately before purchase. The underlying package is well defined; the commercial details can change.
