It follows Soul, a swordsman with a wounded heart and only 66 days left to live, as he flees a conspiracy after being framed for murdering his master. S-GAME and PlayStation describe a weapon-focused combat system, adjustable difficulty, and a setting that combines traditional Chinese martial arts with fantasy, folk horror, industrial ruins, mechanical prosthetics, and modern rock. The game is scheduled for October 29, 2026, with October 28 listed for the United States and select regions; Steam currently shows October 28.
What is Phantom Blade Zero?
Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming action RPG being developed by S-GAME and built with Unreal Engine 5. PlayStation calls it “a dark wuxia action RPG,” while S-GAME presents its setting as a mixture of traditional wuxia, fantasy, and folk horror. The publisher also uses kungfupunk for the blend of martial-arts fiction, punk-inflected technology, and Chinese aesthetics.

“Kungfupunk” is S-GAME’s own framing rather than a broadly established genre category. In practical terms, it means cold steel, elaborate martial-arts techniques, mechanical prosthetics, industrial ruins, and modern rock music sharing the same world. Steam includes “Souls-like” as a user-defined tag, but S-GAME and PlayStation describe Phantom Blade Zero as a wuxia action RPG or action RPG, not as a settled Soulslike genre entry.
The public information currently describes the game’s premise, systems, platforms, and planned release. It does not establish final combat balance, input response, frame-rate consistency, or how the complete campaign plays, so advertised features should not be mistaken for an independent review.

What is the story?
Soul’s 66-day deadline
You play Soul, a swordsman who has been gravely wounded and has only 66 days left to live. He is also accused of murdering his master, making him a target for the authorities and martial factions of the Wulin. His immediate survival problem and the false accusation drive the story at the same time.
A conspiracy in the Wulin
Soul travels through the Wulin—the martial world at the center of the game—while investigating a conspiracy that threatens it. The official Steam synopsis says the journey involves seeking a heart and brings together love, hatred, kindness, and vengeance. Those details establish the story’s themes without revealing a full plot, character roster, or ending.
Soulframe Liang, S-GAME’s founder and CEO, described the Wulin as “a place rife with conflict and intrigue, where our protagonist, Soul, will encounter citizens in need along his journey.” That wording suggests that helping people is part of Soul’s route through the world, but the available descriptions do not explain how such encounters affect the ending or progression.
How does the setting combine wuxia and horror?
Traditional wuxia usually centers on wandering martial artists, rival schools, codes of honor, and heightened swordplay. Phantom Blade Zero places those ideas in a darker world. S-GAME describes folk-horror elements alongside fantasy, while PlayStation emphasizes a “punk fantasy” atmosphere. Chinese visual influences sit beside ruined industrial spaces and mechanical body parts.
The result is not a historical recreation of China. It is a stylized martial-arts setting in which ancient-looking weapons and techniques coexist with machinery and a modern musical edge. The publisher’s “kungfupunk” label is useful for understanding that contrast, but it should be treated as branding for this game’s aesthetic rather than a standard category that predicts its exact gameplay.
How is combat supposed to work?
A large weapon arsenal
S-GAME’s August 17, 2026 PlayStation Blog article says players can unlock more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges. The PlayStation US page and Steam description use the slightly broader lower-bound wording “30-plus” primary weapons and “20-plus” Phantom Edges. The blog provides the more specific published figure, but neither description supports claiming a final exact total beyond those stated minimums.

- Face off against a friend locally or join the fray with up to 64 players in the online lobby, including standard VS modes. Plus, dive deep on each team with the single player Episode Mode to learn more about team dynamics and lore.
Weapon variety is intended to affect how you approach fights rather than simply provide cosmetic changes. The announced systems include weapon upgrades, accessories, and build choices. S-GAME also says that upgraded weapons can be reforged to recover materials, giving players a way to reclaim resources when changing or replacing equipment.
Combos and Phantom Edges
S-GAME advertises “seamless combos” that are easy to learn but rewarding to master. Phantom Edges are the named secondary weapons in that system, adding another layer to the main weapon selection. The descriptions do not specify the complete move list, stamina rules, cancel windows, status effects, or whether every weapon has a distinct progression tree.
Because the game has not been independently evaluated in the material available here, claims about responsiveness, balance, animation quality, or long-term combat depth remain unverified. The safest reading is that the developer is promising a broad, customizable action system—not that every part of it has already been demonstrated to meet that promise.
Summoning help and rebuilding equipment
The advertised feature set also lets players summon help. The available descriptions do not say whether this means computer-controlled allies, temporary characters, or another form of assistance, so the exact rules are still unclear. Accessories can be paired with weapons, and reforging is described as a way to recover materials from upgraded gear. Together, those systems point toward experimentation with builds rather than a single mandatory loadout.
What difficulty modes are available?
The PlayStation Blog identifies three named difficulty choices:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Mode | Published description |
|---|---|
| Wayfarer | For players who mainly want to enjoy the story |
| Hellwalker | Uses more advanced and adaptive enemy intelligence |
| Sixty-Six Days | A high-challenge option |
Soulframe Liang says the range is intended to let newcomers and experienced action-game players tailor the experience. The descriptions do not establish how much enemy damage, health, timing, or resource availability changes in each mode, and they do not prove how difficult the finished game will feel. The names indicate different design goals, not independently measured difficulty ratings.

When does Phantom Blade Zero release?
The general release date listed by S-GAME is October 29, 2026. Soulframe Liang’s PlayStation Blog announcement gives October 29 as the date while noting that October 28 applies in the United States and select regions. Steam currently displays October 28, so the date shown to you may depend on your storefront and time zone.
Release timing and store information can change. Check the regional PlayStation Store or Steam page close to launch, especially if you are buying during a date boundary. The game was previously scheduled for September 9, 2026. In a June 2 developer letter, S-GAME CEO and creator Soulframe wrote, “A 50-day delay cannot solve everything,” explaining that the move to October 29 was intended to allow further improvements. The later official listings supersede that earlier date.
Which platforms will run it?
| Platform | Officially listed details |
|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Official game listing; DualSense adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and Tempest 3D AudioTech are supported |
| PC | Steam release with published minimum requirements and a stated 1080p/30 FPS target using upscaling |
No PlayStation 4, Xbox, Nintendo, or additional platform release is established by the listings covered here. A DualSense wireless controller is a relevant optional PS5 accessory because the game lists adaptive-trigger and haptic-feedback support; the published information does not indicate that any extra hardware beyond a compatible PS5 setup is required.

PS5 audio and controller features
PlayStation lists adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and Tempest 3D AudioTech. The page says 3D audio can work through built-in television speakers or analogue/USB stereo headphones when configured appropriately. These are platform features, not measurements of the game’s final audio mix or controller tuning.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What PC hardware does Phantom Blade Zero require?
Steam publishes the following minimum PC requirements:
| Component | Minimum requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10/11 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1660 with 6 GB or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB |
| API | DirectX 12 |
| Storage | SSD installation |
Steam states a target of 1080p at 30 frames per second with upscaling enabled for that minimum specification. This is a published target, not an independently tested benchmark. Actual performance can vary with drivers, processor load, memory configuration, upscaling settings, and later patches. An SSD is part of the stated requirement, so a hard-drive installation does not meet the published minimum.

Which editions and pre-order items are planned?
The PlayStation US listing identifies Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. The Digital Deluxe edition lists:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Wulin Legend appearance
- Blood-Steel Form appearance
- Digital artbook
- Digital soundtrack
The official site and PlayStation listing also say that the early-unlock pre-order accessory and the Legacy outfit can be obtained through in-game progression. They therefore should not be described as permanently exclusive content. Edition availability, prices, bonuses, and regional store terms may change before release.
The available official listings establish digital Deluxe extras, but they do not establish a physical game edition, physical artbook, licensed collectible, toy, or broader merchandise line.
What is confirmed—and what is still unknown?
- Confirmed in official descriptions: S-GAME is developing an Unreal Engine 5 action RPG; Soul has 66 days to live; the setting combines wuxia, fantasy, and folk horror; more than 30 main weapons and at least 20 Phantom Edges are advertised, with the PlayStation Blog specifying 25 Phantom Edges; three named difficulty modes are listed; PS5 and PC/Steam are official platforms; and the current general release date is October 29, 2026.
- Not established by those descriptions: final review quality, measured frame rates, combat balance, campaign length, multiplayer functionality, the exact role of summoned help, pricing in every region, and the complete plot.
This distinction matters because the available material is promotional and storefront information. It explains what S-GAME says the game will contain, not how well every system performs across a full playthrough.
Who is Phantom Blade Zero for?
The announced design should interest players who want an action RPG built around weapon experimentation, martial-arts spectacle, and a dark fantasy setting rather than a historical wuxia simulation. The three difficulty choices may make the game more approachable for people primarily interested in its story while still offering a high-challenge route. PC players should compare their hardware with the published minimums and remember that the 1080p/30 FPS figure assumes upscaling.
Players looking for a confirmed multiplayer game, a specific Soulslike formula, or independently verified performance do not yet have enough official information to make those assumptions. The clearest current description is narrower: Phantom Blade Zero is S-GAME’s single-player-focused-looking, weapon-rich wuxia action RPG project, with its final experience still to be judged after release.
