P.T. (“Playable Teaser”) was a free horror experience released for PlayStation 4 to introduce the planned game Silent Hills. Konami ended its PlayStation Store distribution in 2015, and later reporting said even people who had previously downloaded it could no longer retrieve it from PlayStation servers. That makes access to the original different from simply finding it in an old account library.
What was P.T.?
P.T. appeared on the PlayStation Store as a mysterious, free PS4 download, without initially explaining what it was promoting. Playing through the teaser revealed its connection to Silent Hills, a planned game associated with Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro, and Norman Reedus. Its format made the reveal part of the experience: it was something to play, not just a conventional announcement trailer. GameSpot’s account of P.T. describes that reveal.

When did P.T. disappear from the PlayStation Store?
On April 25, 2015, the official P.T. website notice was reported as saying: “The distribution period for ‘P.T. (Playable Teaser)’ on PlayStation®Store will expire on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.” GameSpot quoted the notice.

Reports about access changed over the following days. On April 30, GameSpot reported that people who had previously downloaded P.T. could still download it. Game Informer initially reported the same expectation. But Game Informer later updated its story to say Konami had fully removed the teaser, and on May 6, GameSpot reported that it was no longer downloadable from PlayStation servers—even for people who had already added it to their library. The later reports therefore superseded the early assumption that prior downloaders could retrieve it. GameSpot’s April 30 report, Game Informer’s updated report, and GameSpot’s May 6 report document that shift.

Why is the original so hard to play today?
The main obstacle is that P.T. was distributed digitally for PS4 and its download was removed from PlayStation distribution. Contemporary reporting said a previous library claim did not guarantee a fresh download once the servers stopped offering the file. An old account entry, by itself, should not be treated as proof that the original can be restored.
That reporting establishes what happened in 2015; it does not establish the present behavior of every surviving PS4, account, console-transfer method, or preserved backup. Nor does it verify particular fan recreations or emulation options. Those are separate cases, and this historical record does not confirm their availability, authorization, safety, or fidelity to the original.

What does “playing P.T.” mean?
The phrase can refer to different things, and they are not interchangeable:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- The original installation: P.T. running on a PS4 that already has a working copy. The cited reports do not establish whether any particular surviving installation still works.
- A fresh official download: the original PlayStation Store download. Later 2015 reporting said this route had been removed, including for prior library claimants.
- A recreation or emulation: an unofficial recreation or attempt to run the experience by another means. The sources cited here do not verify specific projects or their legal status.
- Another Silent Hill game: a separate title, not the original teaser.
Game Informer reported a 1.37 GB download size in 2015. That is a historical file-size report, not evidence of current storage requirements or availability. Game Informer’s report gives the figure.
