What Is One UI Home on a Samsung Galaxy—and What Can You Change?

One UI Home is Samsung’s built-in Home-screen app on Galaxy phones and tablets. It provides the screen where you launch apps, place widgets, and arrange shortcuts. Seeing it in battery usage is not, by itself, a sign of malware: it is a normal part of using the Home screen, and Samsung says it cannot be removed from Galaxy devices.

What One UI Home does—and what it is not

Samsung describes One UI Home as the preinstalled app that provides navigation tools for launching apps and widgets from a Galaxy device’s Home screen. It manages that screen’s layout and items; it is not the entirety of Samsung’s One UI software experience. Samsung’s overview covers Galaxy phones and tablets, and notes that screens can vary by software version and device. Samsung’s One UI Home overview

In practical terms, if you see One UI Home listed in a device’s battery usage, it reflects activity associated with the Home-screen app. The listing alone does not establish a problem. The Samsung support material describes its normal role, but does not provide a battery percentage or a diagnostic threshold; usage figures depend on the particular device and conditions.

Can you uninstall One UI Home?

No. Samsung says One UI Home comes preinstalled on Galaxy phones and tablets and cannot be removed. You can choose another compatible home app as the default on devices that offer one, but that changes which app opens as the Home screen; it does not uninstall One UI Home. Samsung’s overview

How to add and arrange app icons

Add an app to the Home screen

  1. Swipe up from the Home screen to open the Apps screen.
  2. Touch and hold the app you want.
  3. Tap Add to Home.

To have future installs appear on the Home screen automatically, Samsung’s documented route is Settings > Home screen, then turn on Add new apps to Home screen. The instructions come from Samsung Japan; menu labels and exact steps may differ by Galaxy model, software version, and region. Samsung Japan’s app and widget instructions

Move, group, or remove an icon

  • Move: Touch and hold an icon, then drag it to the position you want.
  • Create a folder: Drag one app icon on top of another.
  • Remove a Home-screen icon: Touch and hold it and choose Remove.

Removing an icon from the Home screen does not uninstall the app. Samsung documents these actions in its Galaxy Home-screen instructions; available labels and gestures can vary. Samsung Japan’s instructions

How to personalize the Home screen

One UI Home lets you place and manage widgets and other Home-screen items. The controls you see depend on your phone or tablet, software version, and region, so do not assume that a setting shown for one Galaxy device is available on every other one. Samsung’s overview of One UI Home describes Home-screen customization, while its newer version guide details changes specific to One UI 7.

One UI 7: icon size, labels, and layout

Samsung Canada’s guide, updated August 29, 2026, says One UI 7 includes options for changing app-icon size, controlling app and widget labels, and adjusting the Home-screen layout. It also says 4×5 and 5×5 grid arrangements are no longer in the default selection on One UI 7 devices. These details apply to the version and devices covered by that guide, not necessarily every Galaxy phone or tablet. Samsung Canada’s One UI 7 Home-screen guide

Landscape behavior in One UI 7

On One UI 7, Samsung says the grid may reorient in landscape view and Home-screen editing is restricted: moving or deleting icons and widgets and resizing folders are unsupported in that view. Switch back to portrait if you need to make those changes. Behavior can vary by model and software version. Samsung Canada’s guide

Can you change the default Home app?

Yes, if another home app is available for your device. Samsung Japan documents this example path: Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > Home app, then select the home app you want. The route is an example, not a universal menu path; wording and availability can differ by device, region, and software version. Samsung Japan’s guide to switching the Home-screen UI

After changing the Home app, widgets may no longer appear. Samsung says switching back to One UI Home restores them. If a widget seems missing after you change the default, select One UI Home again and check the Home screen. Samsung’s switching guide
