moh.exe is generally the main executable for Electronic Arts’ Medal of Honor Limited Edition (2010), not a normal Windows component. A filename alone cannot establish that a copy is safe. Check its location, digital signature, origin and Microsoft Defender results before running, deleting or replacing it. If a legitimate installation is damaged, verify or reinstall the game and install only the dependencies supplied with its original media or launcher.
What is moh.exe?
In the context documented by Windows file-reference sources, moh.exe launches Medal of Honor Limited Edition from Electronic Arts. One listing gives a typical size of approximately 33,709,056 bytes, while another associates the file with the 2010 release. Those listings identify a common use for the name; they are not a cryptographic certificate that every file named moh.exe is genuine.

Unlike explorer.exe or other core Windows components, moh.exe is not expected on every Windows computer. It should normally appear below the folder in which the game was installed, such as a library or program folder selected in the game launcher. The exact drive and parent folders vary by store, installation choices and whether the game was copied from physical media.
The process may appear only while the game is starting or running. If you never installed a Medal of Honor PC game but find the executable, treat that mismatch as an investigation signal rather than assuming it is harmless.

Is moh.exe safe or a virus?
There is no yes-or-no answer based on the filename. A legitimate game executable is safe in the context of the installed game, but malware can be given any filename, including one that resembles a known program.

Check the full path
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager while the game or suspicious process is running.
- On the Details tab, locate
moh.exe, right-click it and choose Open file location. If the process exits too quickly, right-click the game shortcut, choose Properties and inspect the Target field. - Compare the folder with the location where you intentionally installed Medal of Honor. A path alone is not proof, but an unrelated or temporary location deserves caution.
Check publisher and signature information
- Right-click the file, select Properties and review the Details tab for product and publisher information.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if it is present. Select a signature, choose Details and confirm that Windows reports a valid signature.
- Treat a missing, invalid or unexpected signature as a reason to investigate further. Do not “fix” the problem by downloading a replacement executable from an EXE or DLL repository.
Scan with Microsoft Defender
In Windows Security, update the protection intelligence, then open Virus & threat protection and run a Full scan. Microsoft’s guidance is to get the latest security intelligence before a full scan. If unwanted software continues to return or the computer behaves suspiciously, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan; it restarts Windows and scans before the normal desktop loads. Keep security protections enabled while investigating.

Typical causes are a missing or corrupt executable, an incomplete or damaged game installation, an obsolete shortcut or registry/path reference, a conflict with another program, missing legacy game components, or malware that altered or replaced files. The wording matters: a missing-file message points toward installation integrity or dependencies, while a Defender detection is a security incident first.

Safe repair sequence for a legitimate game installation
Work through these steps in order. Stop at the first step that resolves the problem, and preserve the exact message if you need support later.
1. Record the evidence
- Copy the complete error text, including any named DLL and error code.
- Record the full path to
moh.exefrom Task Manager or the shortcut. - Note when the failure occurs: immediately after launching, after a splash screen, when joining a game or only after a period of play.
- Open Event Viewer by pressing Win + R, entering
eventvwr.msc, and checking Windows Logs > Application for an error at the failure time. Preserve the faulting module and exception text instead of guessing at a replacement file.
2. Handle a suspicious copy before game repairs
If the path is unexpected or Defender raises an alert, do not repeatedly launch the file. Disconnect from untrusted downloads or removable media, update Defender security intelligence, run a full scan and then run Defender Offline if the unwanted behavior persists. Let Defender quarantine or remove a confirmed threat. Microsoft advises downloading software only from official vendor sites or the Microsoft Store; that principle also rules out “clean” copies of moh.exe offered by file-sharing or DLL-download sites.
3. Verify the game files
Use the Verify, Repair or equivalent file-integrity command in the launcher that owns your legitimate installation. Verification compares local files with the launcher’s known game package and can restore a missing or damaged executable without immediately removing the whole game. Close overlays and the game before starting verification, and allow it to finish even if the progress appears to pause.

If the launcher no longer recognizes the installation, browse to the existing game folder when it offers a library-location option rather than downloading an unrelated executable. If verification reports files it cannot repair, continue to a clean reinstall from the original store or disc.

- Back up saved games and configuration files if the distributor’s instructions identify their location.
- Uninstall the game through its launcher or Windows’ installed-apps list. Do not delete random system folders.
- Restart Windows, install the game again from the original legitimate media or launcher, and apply any official game updates offered for that edition.
- Launch it once before adding unofficial patches, injectors, overlays or modified executables. Third-party modifications can recreate the same crash and make diagnosis harder.
5. Install only the bundled legacy dependencies
Old PC games may include installers for components that are no longer installed on a new Windows setup. A Microsoft Q&A report about Medal of Honor describes a startup message for missing d3dx9_42.dll. A separate, older community troubleshooting report for a Medal of Honor general-protection-fault startup failure points to the game’s supplied vc8redist.exe, vcredist.exe, PunkBuster service installer and PhysX installer.
These reports are game-specific and old; they are leads, not universal instructions. If your legitimate game folder or launcher contains those installers, run them from that trusted source, preferably with the game closed, and restart Windows afterward. Do not obtain a single DLL from a download site and copy it into System32 or the game folder. A loose DLL can be the wrong architecture, an altered file or an incomplete fix.

6. Update Windows and graphics software
Install pending Windows updates through Settings > Windows Update. Update the graphics driver through the GPU manufacturer’s official support channel or the driver-management method supplied by your computer maker. Reboot after installation. Do not disable antivirus, User Account Control or other protections globally to make an old game start; if a compatibility setting is needed, use the game launcher or the executable’s documented Compatibility options and change only the setting you are testing.
7. Test compatibility carefully
For a game released in 2010, modern Windows versions can expose compatibility problems that did not occur on the original platform. Right-click the game shortcut or executable, choose Properties > Compatibility, and test one documented option at a time. Record each change so you can undo it. Avoid forcing an old operating-system mode, administrator privileges or reduced security settings permanently without a clear reason; those changes can introduce new access and update problems.
8. Eliminate software conflicts
Temporarily close overlays, screen recorders, hardware-monitoring tools and aggressive third-party utilities that hook games. Perform a clean test after each change rather than disabling many services at once. If the game works only when another program is closed, contact that program’s publisher for a compatible update instead of leaving security software disabled.

9. Check access and storage problems
Confirm that the account running the game can read and execute the installation folder and that the drive has free space. If the game is on an intermittently connected external drive, move or reinstall it to a stable local volume. A shortcut pointing to a moved folder can produce Cannot find moh.exe
even when the file still exists elsewhere; recreate the shortcut from the launcher after relocating the installation.

Can you delete moh.exe?
Do not delete it merely because the name looks unfamiliar or because a scan has not yet completed. Deleting the file from a legitimate installation will usually make the game fail to start and can remove evidence useful for diagnosing a crash. Use the launcher or Windows installed-apps list to uninstall the game when you no longer want it; that process removes the program in a controlled way.
If Defender identifies the file as malicious, follow Defender’s quarantine or removal action rather than manually restoring or replacing it. Afterward, change passwords or investigate other accounts only if the scan or your own evidence indicates broader compromise.
When the error remains
Collect the exact error dialog, Event Viewer entry, Windows version, game edition, installation source, full executable path and the steps that already failed. Give that information to the game distributor or launcher support. Mention whether verification completed, which bundled installers were present, and whether Defender found anything. Do not send a downloaded replacement executable as a diagnostic “test.”
Microsoft also warns that genuine Microsoft error and warning messages do not include phone numbers. If a pop-up naming moh.exe instructs you to call a number, pay for support or install a remote-access tool, close it and run the Defender scans instead.
