maniaplanetlauncher.exe is the launcher component installed with Nadeo’s ManiaPlanet platform and used by TrackMania² games. A copy in the game’s installation directory with a valid Nadeo signature is consistent with the legitimate program. The name alone is not proof of safety: verify the file’s location, signature, and SHA-256 hash before allowing or restoring it. Missing files, damaged installations, legacy DirectX dependencies, antivirus quarantine, and account problems account for the main startup failures.
What maniaplanetlauncher.exe does
ManiaPlanetLauncher.exe starts the ManiaPlanet environment and launches TrackMania² titles. SteamDB identifies it as the executable used by the TrackMania² Valley package and records the launch command /silent //startuptitle=TMValley. It is a launcher, not the game engine itself; the installation normally contains a separate ManiaPlanet.exe (and, in some packages, ManiaPlanet32.exe), an updater, runtime libraries, and support installers.

The launcher is normally stored in the same game installation directory as those companion files. A legitimate installation can therefore contain several similarly named executables. Seeing both ManiaPlanetLauncher.exe and ManiaPlanet.exe is expected; it is not evidence of duplicate malware.

Depot manifests record the launcher at 5.77 MiB in one package and 4.42 MiB in another. Those are package-record values, not a size requirement for every release. A different build, language package, or later update can legitimately have a different size.

Is maniaplanetlauncher.exe safe?
A filename cannot authenticate a program. Malware can use the same name, a misspelling, or a copy placed in a temporary folder. Existing records for matching Nadeo executables are reassuring but limited: herdProtect reports 0 detections out of 68 scanners for analyzed samples in 2026, including a version 1.3.3.0 record, and identifies NADEO as the publisher. Those results apply to the analyzed files, not to every file called maniaplanetlauncher.exe on every computer.
Use all three checks below. Do not whitelist or restore a file merely because its spelling looks right.
1. Check the installation path
- Open the game platform’s library and choose the TrackMania² title that installed the file.
- Use its “Browse local files,” “Open installation folder,” or equivalent command.
- Confirm that
ManiaPlanetLauncher.exeis inside that folder and sits with the expected ManiaPlanet files.
A path under the game’s own installation directory is consistent with the legitimate component. A copy found only in Downloads, a browser cache, a random temporary directory, or an unrelated system folder deserves investigation. Do not delete a suspicious copy until you have recorded its full path and hash; those details can help an administrator or security vendor identify it.

2. Inspect the digital signature
- Right-click the actual file and select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab. Select the listed signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows says the signature is valid and that the publisher identity corresponds to Nadeo/NADEO.
The tab can be absent when a file is unsigned. An invalid signature, an unexpected publisher, or a certificate warning means the file should not be trusted without further verification. A valid signature is strong evidence of origin, but it does not replace checking the path and the source of the installation.
3. Record and compare a SHA-256 hash
Open PowerShell and run the following command, replacing the quoted path with the exact file location:

There is no single hash that can be assumed for every ManiaPlanet release. If the path, signature, and hash do not agree with the copy obtained from your legitimate platform, remove that copy and reinstall rather than adding an antivirus exception.

Recognize the failure before changing files
The wording of the Windows message and the file’s location usually identify the repair branch. Record the exact text rather than paraphrasing it.

Manual fixes, in the safest order
Step 1: Capture the file identity and error
Before deleting or restoring anything, write down:
- The complete Windows error message, including the name of any missing DLL.
- The full path to
ManiaPlanetLauncher.exe. - The publisher and validity shown on the Digital Signatures tab.
- The SHA-256 hash from PowerShell.
- Your Windows edition and version.
- Whether the game came from Steam or another legitimate platform.
This record prevents a repair from hiding the evidence needed to diagnose a look-alike file or a recurring quarantine.
Step 2: Verify or repair the game files
Verification is the first repair for a missing, altered, or corrupted launcher because the package treats the launcher, updater, main executable, and runtime files as separate components.

- In Steam, open Library, right-click the TrackMania² title, select Properties, choose Installed Files, and click Verify integrity of game files. Steam’s wording can change slightly between client versions.
- Wait for the process to finish. Allow the platform to reacquire files it reports as missing or damaged.
- Use the platform’s equivalent Verify, Repair, or Scan and repair command when the game was installed elsewhere.
- Launch the game again from the platform, not from an old shortcut to a deleted copy.
After verification, check the installation directory again. The launcher should be accompanied by the expected ManiaPlanet executable and supporting files. If verification repeatedly replaces the same file, record the hash and quarantine event before proceeding; a security product or storage problem may be interfering.
Step 3: Reinstall from the legitimate platform when verification cannot recover it
If the platform cannot restore the launcher, uninstall the affected game and reinstall it from the account and platform that originally supplied it. Avoid downloading a stand-alone executable from an unofficial file site. After installation completes, repeat the path and signature checks before launching. A clean reinstall is preferable to copying an executable from another computer because the launcher depends on matching libraries, updater files, and configuration components.
Step 4: Repair a missing DLL or DirectX error
Read the exact DLL name in the Windows dialog. The required runtime depends on that name; installing unrelated DLL files from random websites can introduce an untrusted binary or the wrong version.

- Open the game’s installation directory.
- Navigate to
SupportDirectXand runDXSETUP.exeif it is present. - Let the setup complete, restart Windows, and retry the launcher.
- If the bundled installer is missing or fails, install the official Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtime appropriate to the game’s legacy dependency, then restart and test again.
The ManiaPlanet depot includes DirectX support installers and legacy cabinet files, so a complete installation may be able to repair this class of startup error without replacing the launcher itself. Do not download a single DLL from an unverified “DLL” archive.
Step 5: Review an antivirus quarantine or block
A quarantine event is not proof that the file is malicious, and a clean scan record is not proof that an arbitrary copy is genuine. Open your antivirus history or quarantine and record the detected path, detection name, and action.
- Compare the quarantined path with the game’s actual installation folder.
- Check the file’s Nadeo signature and SHA-256 hash while it is available, or obtain those details from the platform’s restored copy.
- Restore or allow the file only when the identity checks match a legitimate installation.
- If the copy is unsigned, in an unrelated directory, or has an unexpected look-alike name, delete it and reinstall through the legitimate game platform instead of creating an exception.
Keep the antivirus enabled while testing. If a newly verified copy is immediately quarantined again, save the detection details and contact the security vendor or game support rather than repeatedly overriding the warning.

If the launcher starts but you cannot sign in, repairing files may not change the result. Ubisoft’s support guidance states: “You can change your email address, username, and password from the Maniaplanet launcher by selecting your Profile.” Use the launcher’s Profile control to change those details when you can still access the account.
For lost access, Ubisoft asks users to contact support with a screenshot of the game key and possible account identifiers. Do not send passwords. Keep the account case separate from a missing-file repair so that a credential issue does not lead you to download an untrusted replacement executable.
Step 7: Escalate with a complete diagnostic packet
When the launcher still fails, provide support with the exact error text, full path, signature status, SHA-256 hash, Windows version, and installation source. Also state whether verification restored the launcher and its companion files, whether the DirectX setup completed, and whether antivirus quarantine was involved. Those facts distinguish a damaged package from a missing runtime, a blocked file, an account failure, or an impostor.
