What loaddrv_x64.exe does
The name suggests a 64-bit helper that loads a storage or partition-management driver. In practice, the filename has appeared in disk-partition and imaging software packages, including temporary setup folders used while a utility installs or runs. It is not listed as a normal Windows executable in the Microsoft documentation reviewed for this issue, so Windows itself does not require a file with this name.

A legitimate copy may be unpacked temporarily by a disk utility, started by that utility’s main process and removed after the operation finishes. A different file with the same name may be planted in a writable folder, launched by a script or bundled with an unwanted installer. The filename therefore identifies neither a trustworthy publisher nor a specific program.

Why the name appears in security records
Dr.Web’s Trojan.Siggen32.4769 record includes %TEMP%aomei partition assistantloaddrv_x64.exe. The sample was created and executed with the -u argument alongside partassist.exe and setupgreen64.exe. That is evidence about one analyzed sample and its execution context, not proof that every copy shipped with a disk utility is malicious.

A separate Dr.Web Trojan.Siggen11.44290 record lists %TEMP%7zipsfx.000loaddrv_x64.exe, WinToGo or partition-related files, hidden execution and ampa.sys driver artifacts. Again, a detection record describes the submitted sample, not all files with that name.
A public listing of AOMEI Partition Assistant package files includes loaddrv.exe, supporting an association with that software family but not providing a publisher signature or a safety guarantee. An ANY.RUN sandbox record shows C:UsersadminAppDataLocalTempPartAssistLoadDrv_x64.exe launched by PartAssist.exe. These examples explain why the path and parent process matter more than capitalization or the filename alone.
Is loaddrv_x64.exe safe?
There is no universal yes-or-no answer. Judge the particular file on the computer in front of you.

Microsoft notes that uncommon programs are not automatically malicious, but the risk in the unknown category is higher for typical users. A clean result for one hash does not certify another file with the same name. Make your decision from the complete set of observations rather than from a filename search or a single scan.
How to investigate the exact file safely
Do not double-click an unknown copy to see what it does. If it is running, collect its details first, then scan it.

1. Find the executable and its command line
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. If the compact view appears, select More details.
- On Details, look for
loaddrv_x64.exeor a capitalization variant such asLoadDrv_x64.exe. - Right-click the process and choose Open file location. Record the complete path, including the drive letter and every folder.
- Use Properties to record the file size, creation or modification time and the displayed product and company names.
Task Manager does not always expose the parent process or full command line. Microsoft Process Explorer can show both. A parent such as PartAssist.exe during a partition operation is materially different from an unknown script interpreter launching the file at logon. Record any switches, including hidden or uninstall-style arguments such as -u, before ending the process.
2. Check the digital signature
- In the file’s Properties, open Digital Signatures.
- Select the signer and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid, inspect the certificate chain and compare the publisher with the software you intentionally installed.
An absent or invalid signature is a warning, not mathematical proof of malware; some legitimate utilities may use unsigned helper files. Conversely, a signature does not make a file safe if it was copied from a compromised location or if the signed application is not one you installed. Treat an unexpected signer as a reason to stop and investigate.

Open PowerShell, substitute the recorded path and run:
Get-FileHash -LiteralPath "C:fullpathloaddrv_x64.exe" -Algorithm SHA256Save the resulting hash with the path, signature details and parent process. Submit the hash or the file only to a reputable scanner under your organization’s privacy policy. A hash identifies that exact binary; it does not validate every future download with the same filename.
4. Scan with Microsoft Defender
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection, then choose Protection updates and select Check for updates.
- Return to Virus & threat protection, select Scan options, choose Full scan and start it.
- Review Protection history for the exact path and detection name. Quarantine a detected file rather than allowing it to run.
If an unwanted program returns after a full scan, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan from the same Scan options page. Windows restarts into a separate scanning environment before normal startup programs can interfere. Save open work first and expect the restart.

5. Check whether a driver was installed
A disk utility may install a kernel driver while performing an operation. In Windows Security > Device security > Core isolation, review messages about blocked or incompatible drivers. You can also inspect Event Viewer > Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > CodeIntegrity > Operational for driver-loading failures.

Why Windows reports a loaddrv_x64.exe error
Damaged or incomplete installation
An interrupted download, failed update or over-aggressive cleanup can remove the helper or its companion driver. The parent application then reports that the file is missing, cannot be loaded or terminated unexpectedly.
Incompatible software version
A disk utility built for a different Windows release, processor architecture or storage configuration may fail when it calls the helper. An old package may also depend on a driver that current Windows security policies block.
Security software quarantine
Defender or another scanner may quarantine the helper while the parent application still expects it. Restoring an item without verifying its source can reintroduce a threat, so repair the parent application from a trusted installer instead of copying a replacement executable.

Malicious substitution or unsafe search path
If software searches writable directories for an executable or DLL, an attacker can place a look-alike file earlier in that search order. Microsoft explains that control of a directory on a DLL search path lets an attacker place a malicious copy there. A temporary-folder copy, unexpected command line or wrong parent process is especially important in this case.
Blocked or unsigned driver
The executable can start correctly but fail when it asks Windows to load a driver. Code Integrity events, a recent Windows security change or a driver certificate problem can produce this pattern.
Unwanted software using the filename
A hidden installer may unpack a file with the familiar name to appear related to a legitimate partition tool. Hidden execution, unsolicited downloads and repeated recreation after deletion point away from a normal utility workflow.
Manual fixes when the parent disk utility is legitimate
Repair from Windows settings
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (called Apps & features on some Windows 10 builds).
- Find the intentionally installed partition or imaging application.
- Open its menu, choose Advanced options if available, and select Repair. This attempts to restore program files without removing personal settings.
- Restart Windows and repeat the operation that produced the error.
If the application has no Repair option, use its own installer or maintenance entry in Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
Reinstall from the verified vendor source
- Close the utility and any partition, backup or imaging jobs. Do not interrupt an active disk operation.
- Uninstall the application from Windows Settings or Control Panel.
- Restart the computer.
- Download the installer directly from the software publisher’s official site, verify that the edition and architecture match your Windows installation, and check the installer’s signature before running it.
- Install, restart if requested and test the same function again.
Do not obtain a replacement .exe from a generic EXE or DLL download site. Such files can be modified, mismatched to the application or bundled with additional software.
Confirm driver compatibility
Install available updates for the disk utility and for Windows through their normal update channels. If the utility’s documentation identifies a separate storage driver, confirm that it supports your Windows edition and that its signature is accepted by Code Integrity. Do not bypass a driver block by turning off security controls unless you are following a documented, controlled recovery procedure and understand the consequences.

Contain the situation
- Stop using the unknown utility and do not launch the executable again.
- If you suspect account compromise, disconnect the affected computer from sensitive accounts and use a separate trusted device to change important passwords.
- Preserve the path, parent process, command line, hash and detection name before deleting anything. These details help distinguish a legitimate recovery component from an unwanted file.
Quarantine, uninstall and scan
- In Windows Security’s Protection history, choose the detected item and select Quarantine or the recommended removal action.
- In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, uninstall the associated program if you did not intentionally install it.
- Run a Defender Full scan, then a Defender Offline scan if the detection, pop-up or process returns.
- Check Task Manager’s Startup apps and Windows Task Scheduler for entries created by the unwanted installer. Disable or remove an entry only when you can identify its associated program.
- Restart and scan again. If the file reappears, investigate the process or scheduled task recreating it instead of repeatedly deleting the copy.
Can you delete loaddrv_x64.exe?
Delete it only after you know which program owns it and whether that program is still needed.
- Temporary file from a completed installation: closing the parent utility and restarting may allow normal cleanup. If it remains and the path is clearly a temporary extraction folder, remove it after scanning.
- File inside a needed partition utility: do not delete it manually. The program may stop starting, lose repair functions or recreate the file. Use Repair or a verified reinstall instead.
- Unknown or detected file: quarantine it through Defender, uninstall the associated unwanted software and complete the scans above. Record evidence before removal.
- File involved in an active disk operation: leave it alone until the operation finishes or a documented recovery plan says otherwise. Removing storage components mid-operation can worsen data loss.
Deleting an executable does not remove a service, scheduled task, driver or registry entry that may reinstall it. If it returns, identify the recreating component.

Fixes for specific error messages
“loaddrv_x64.exe not found”
Confirm whether Defender quarantined the file and whether the parent application is still installed. Repair or reinstall that application from its official source. Do not download a same-named replacement from an unverified site.
“The application was unable to start” or a missing DLL message
Record the exact DLL name and Windows error code. Repair the parent application, install pending Windows updates and check that the program’s architecture matches the system. Avoid copying individual DLLs from download sites.
“Driver failed to load” or “blocked by Windows”
Review Code Integrity events and the Windows Security device-security page. Update or reinstall the utility with a version that provides a properly signed, compatible driver. A driver block is a security control, not an instruction to disable protection.
The process returns after deletion
Look for its parent process, startup entry, scheduled task or installer service. Run Defender Offline, uninstall the associated program and examine the recorded command line. Repeated recreation from a random writable folder is not normal cleanup behavior.

Preventing a repeat problem
- Download partition and imaging utilities only from the publisher’s trusted distribution channel. Microsoft advises downloading apps from trusted sources and being thoughtful about which apps you install.
- Keep Windows security intelligence and the disk utility current.
- Maintain backups before resizing, cloning or converting partitions. A working helper cannot recover data that was overwritten by an interrupted operation.
- Use fully qualified paths and safe search behavior in software that launches helpers; writable directories should not be trusted ahead of the intended installation directory.
- Keep the path, signer, hash and parent process when investigating an alert so a later repair does not erase useful evidence.
Bottom line
loaddrv_x64.exe is a context-dependent filename, not proof of a Windows component and not proof of malware. A copy launched by an intentionally installed disk utility from its expected location may be legitimate; a copy in a random temporary folder, started unexpectedly, unsigned or detected by Defender deserves containment and removal. Verify the path, parent, signature, hash, source and scan result before deciding whether to keep, repair or delete it.
