klwtblfs.exe is normally a WebToolBar component installed with Kaspersky Anti-Virus or Kaspersky Internet Security, not a Windows system file. Its name alone cannot establish that a copy is genuine. Verify the complete path and the file’s digital signature before deciding whether it is safe. A copy in a Kaspersky folder under C:Program Files (x86) is consistent with the expected installation; a copy in C:Windows or C:WindowsSystem32, an unsigned file, or a file that appeared when Kaspersky was never installed needs investigation.
This guide shows how to identify the process, assess malware risk without running a suspicious copy, repair a damaged Kaspersky installation, remove the owning product cleanly, and use Microsoft’s documented DISM and SFC sequence when Windows corruption is involved.

What klwtblfs.exe does
File.net identifies klwtblfs.exe as an executable associated with Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Kaspersky Internet Security. It describes the file as the products’ WebToolBar component. The executable is commonly reported in a Kaspersky Lab directory beneath C:Program Files (x86). That makes it a third-party security-product component rather than part of Windows itself.

A filename is not an identity check
Malware can copy a familiar filename. File.net specifically warns that klwtblfs.exe may be camouflaged, particularly when it is found in C:Windows or C:WindowsSystem32. Those locations do not prove infection, but they are inconsistent with the commonly reported Kaspersky Program Files location and should trigger verification rather than automatic deletion.
A historical HerdProtect record for one Kaspersky-labelled build reported Kaspersky Lab as the publisher and 0/68 scanner detections on September 27, 2026. That result belongs only to that particular hash and build. It does not certify every file named klwtblfs.exe, and it cannot substitute for checking the copy on your computer.
How to decide whether your copy is legitimate
Use this sequence before attempting repairs. It keeps a potentially suspicious file from being treated as a normal Kaspersky component.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc, find klwtblfs.exe in the Processes or Details view, right-click it and choose Open file location. Record the complete folder path before closing the window. - Inspect the file properties. In the folder that opens, right-click the executable and select Properties. Check the Digital Signatures tab. Look for a valid signature whose signer or publisher identifies Kaspersky. A signature that is missing, invalid or issued to an unrelated publisher is a reason to stop and investigate.
- Compare the path with your installation. A Kaspersky Lab folder under
C:Program Files (x86)is consistent with the component described by File.net. A location directly underC:WindowsorC:WindowsSystem32, a temporary-download folder, or a random user-profile directory is unexpected and should be treated cautiously. - Check whether Kaspersky is installed. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11 or Windows 10, or Control Panel > Programs and Features on older systems. If no Kaspersky product is listed, the presence of the executable needs an explanation before you trust it.
- Scan unexpected copies. If the path is wrong, the signature is absent or invalid, or the file appeared without Kaspersky, use a current security product to scan the file and the whole system. Do not execute an untrusted copy merely to see what it does, and do not upload it to an online service if that would disclose private or confidential material.

Why klwtblfs.exe can show errors or high CPU use
There is no published population statistic showing how often this filename fails, so the symptom alone cannot identify one cause. Use the path, signature and installation status to narrow the possibilities.

A damaged or outdated Kaspersky component
If the file belongs to a current Kaspersky installation, an incomplete update or damaged WebToolBar files can produce startup errors, repeated process restarts or unusual resource use. In that case the appropriate target is the Kaspersky installation, not the executable in isolation. Updating or repairing the product restores the component together with the files and settings it depends on.
Windows component corruption
An error can appear alongside broader Windows problems, such as failed updates or other applications reporting missing or damaged system files. Microsoft documents DISM and System File Checker (SFC) for that situation. These tools repair Windows components; they do not prove that an unexpected klwtblfs.exe is legitimate.
An unexpected or malicious copy
A process that uses CPU while running from an unusual directory, has no valid Kaspersky signature, or exists without Kaspersky installed should be handled as a security investigation. Do not infer safety from a low detection count for a different hash, and do not assume that a familiar name is evidence of a genuine publisher.
A stale installation after software removal
Uninstalling or partially removing Kaspersky can leave references that continue to call a component. Deleting klwtblfs.exe by hand can make that state worse by leaving an incomplete product installation. Use Windows’ Apps or Programs and Features entry for the Kaspersky product when you intend to remove it.

Manual fixes, in the order that minimizes risk
1. Preserve evidence and establish ownership
Before changing files, write down the path shown by Open file location, the signer shown on Properties > Digital Signatures, the exact error text, and whether Kaspersky is listed in installed applications. This information distinguishes a Kaspersky repair from a Windows repair and gives a security technician something concrete to review if scanning finds a problem.
If the process is consuming CPU, note the approximate usage and when it starts: immediately at sign-in, only when a browser opens, during an update, or continuously. Do not end the process or delete the file simply because it appears in Task Manager; first complete the identity checks above.
2. Update or repair Kaspersky when the copy is genuine
When the path and signature fit Kaspersky and the product is installed, open that product’s own update or maintenance interface and apply its available updates. If the product offers a repair option, run it and restart Windows when prompted. A repair is preferable to deleting the executable because it can replace damaged WebToolBar files and restore the registration information the product expects.

3. Remove Kaspersky cleanly if you no longer want it
If you have decided not to keep the Kaspersky product, remove the product that owns the file:
- In Windows 11 or Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, locate the Kaspersky entry, select its menu and choose Uninstall.
- On older Windows interfaces, open Control Panel > Programs and Features, select the Kaspersky product and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the product’s removal wizard, restart if requested, and then check whether the klwtblfs.exe process and its error are gone.
Do not remove only klwtblfs.exe while leaving the Kaspersky entry installed. A single-file deletion can create missing-file errors, prevent normal updates or leave an incomplete security installation. If Windows’ uninstaller fails, keep the recorded path and error details and use the product’s documented removal procedure rather than deleting random folders.
4. Repair Windows components with DISM, then SFC
Use this step when the klwtblfs.exe error appears with wider Windows corruption or update failures, not as a substitute for checking the executable’s identity. Microsoft says that DISM provides the files required to repair corrupted files and instructs users to run DISM before SFC.
- Save your work, search for Command Prompt, right-click it and select Run as administrator. Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- At the elevated prompt, enter the following command exactly and press Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth - Wait for DISM to finish. Keep the window open even if progress appears to pause; interrupting it can leave the repair incomplete.
- When DISM returns to the prompt, run:
sfc /scannow - Leave the Command Prompt open until SFC reaches 100 percent. Read the final result and restart Windows if requested.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC then scans protected system files and can replace corrupted files with cached copies. The SFC result determines whether this branch is complete or whether additional Windows repair is needed; it does not validate a third-party executable’s publisher or path.
5. Address errors that occur during Windows Update
If the klwtblfs.exe message appears while Windows is installing updates, run the built-in Windows Update troubleshooter, follow its suggested corrections, restart if requested, and check for updates again. Keep the Kaspersky ownership check separate: a successful update troubleshooter does not make an unexpectedly located executable safe.
Microsoft records that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Windows 11 remains Microsoft’s supported path for ongoing security updates. If the affected computer is still on Windows 10, the end-of-support status is relevant to long-term security and update planning, even if the immediate klwtblfs.exe error is resolved.
6. If scanning identifies a threat
Follow the security product’s quarantine or removal instructions and allow it to scan the whole system, not only the named file. Avoid restoring the file merely because an application stopped working; first confirm that the copy was genuinely part of Kaspersky and that the signer and path match. If the file was malicious, reinstall trusted software only after the system scan and use official installers.
Choosing the right remediation path
The four questions below keep the response proportional to the evidence: does the file belong to an installed Kaspersky product, is the problem isolated to Kaspersky or Windows, do you want to keep Kaspersky, and are there malware indicators?

Common mistakes to avoid
- Trusting the name alone: malware can use the same filename, so always check location and signature.
- Deleting the executable first: this can break a Kaspersky installation and create new missing-file errors.
- Running SFC before DISM: Microsoft’s documented order is DISM first, then SFC.
- Stopping after one scanner result: the reported 0/68 result applies to one historical hash and build, not every klwtblfs.exe copy.
- Uploading or executing a suspicious file just to test it: scan it safely with a current security product instead.
- Assuming a Windows repair proves the file is safe: DISM and SFC repair Windows components; they do not authenticate Kaspersky files.
What a successful repair looks like
For a genuine Kaspersky component, success means the product opens or updates normally, the klwtblfs.exe error no longer returns, and Task Manager no longer shows the abnormal behavior that prompted the investigation. For a Windows-corruption case, DISM and SFC should complete and the related update or system-file symptoms should be retested after a restart. For an unexpected copy, success means the security product has handled the file and a follow-up scan no longer reports it; do not judge success solely by whether the process disappears.
Keep the path, signature result, error wording and repair outcomes until the computer has run normally through another restart and the relevant update or Kaspersky operation. Those records prevent repeating destructive steps if the message returns.
