What Is inputdispatcher_test.exe? Is It Safe, and How to Fix inputdispatcher_test.exe Errors on Windows

inputdispatcher_test.exe is a test executable documented as part of Windroy 4.0.3, an Android-on-Windows package. It is not identified in the Microsoft material reviewed for this guide as a standard Windows component. The filename alone cannot establish whether your copy is safe.

Check the complete path, file properties, digital signature, parent application, launch command and security-scan result before deleting anything. A copy in Windroy’s program folder may be legitimate; a copy in a temporary, download, profile or unrelated startup location needs investigation.

What inputdispatcher_test.exe is

An Advanced Uninstaller PRO inventory for Windroy version 4.0.3 lists InputDispatcher_test.exe among the package’s installed executables. The inventory gives C:Program FilesWindroy as the usual installation directory and identifies Windroy, Inc. as the developer.

The name is consistent with a test utility for Android input-dispatcher functions, but the available documentation does not publish the executable’s source code, a cryptographic hash or a current Microsoft signature for every copy. That means the Windroy association is useful context, not proof that a file with this name is genuine.

It is not a normal Windows system file

Do not assume that every executable in a Windows folder belongs to Microsoft. If you see this filename on a computer that has never had Windroy installed, treat that mismatch as a warning. Conversely, the mere presence of a Windroy copy does not prove malware: older software can leave files behind after an incomplete uninstall, and legitimate programs can use test-named executables.

Is inputdispatcher_test.exe safe?

Safety depends on the individual file. A copy under the expected Windroy installation directory, signed by an expected publisher, launched by Windroy and detected as clean by an up-to-date security scan is consistent with the documented package. A copy in %TEMP%, %AppData%, Downloads or an unrelated startup or scheduled-task location is more suspicious.

Microsoft threat guidance describes scheduled tasks and startup entries as persistence techniques. Malware can also copy a familiar-looking filename into a different directory or launch it with a script. Therefore, neither the name nor the path should be used as the only safety test.

Evidence that supports a legitimate copy

  • Windroy 4.0.3 is or was intentionally installed on the PC.
  • The full path is inside the Windroy program directory rather than a user-writable temporary or profile folder.
  • Properties show a sensible file version and a valid digital signature from the expected publisher, if a signature is present.
  • Task Manager shows Windroy or a related application as the parent process.
  • Microsoft Defender reports no threat after its security intelligence is updated.
  • The executable does not recreate itself through an unknown task, service, Run entry or script.

Warning signs

  • The file appears in a location unrelated to Windroy.
  • Windroy is not installed, or no one on the PC installed it.
  • The signature is missing, invalid or belongs to an unexpected publisher.
  • The process launches from a command line containing a script, encoded text or an unfamiliar executable.
  • It reappears after deletion or reboot.
  • Defender or another reputable security product identifies a specific threat.
  • A web page or pop-up instructed you to paste a command into PowerShell, Command Prompt or the Run dialog before the file appeared.

Why inputdispatcher_test.exe may be running

If Windroy is installed, the process may be started when Windroy initializes Android input handling, runs a diagnostic, or performs an update or repair action. The process can also be left behind by a failed uninstall or a stale shortcut.

Unexpected execution has other explanations: a scheduled task, a Run or RunOnce registry value, a startup-folder shortcut, a script or another compromised process may be launching a copy. The launch context matters more than the filename shown in Task Manager.

Capture the file’s context before changing it

Do not delete the executable simply because its name looks unfamiliar. First preserve enough information to identify the correct file and, if necessary, explain the incident to a security professional.

  1. Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc. On the Details tab, find inputdispatcher_test.exe, right-click it and choose Open file location. If it is not running, use the path shown in the alert or search locations that recently changed.
  2. In File Explorer, right-click the file, choose Properties, and record the Location, Size, Created, Modified and Product version values.
  3. Open the Digital Signatures tab, if present. Select each signature, choose Details and confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid. A missing signature is not automatic proof of malware, but an invalid signature is a reason to stop and investigate.
  4. In Task Manager, check the process command line. If the column is hidden, right-click a column heading, choose Select columns and enable Command line. Record any script, unusual argument or different executable that started it.
  5. Note whether Windroy is listed in Settings > Apps > Installed apps (Windows 11) or Settings > Apps > Apps & features (Windows 10). Do not download a replacement executable from an unverified DLL or EXE site.

Run Microsoft Defender checks

Update Defender security intelligence before scanning. In Windows Security, open Virus & threat protection, select Protection updates, choose Check for updates, then return to the scan page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use a Full scan first

  1. Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
  2. Select Scan options.
  3. Choose Full scan and select Scan now.
  4. Let the scan finish. Review the detection name, affected path and action taken in Protection history.
  5. Restart only after recording the result, especially if the process is currently running or repeatedly returning.

Microsoft’s threat guidance says that updating definitions and running a Full scan can address threats and remnants. A clean result does not authenticate a third-party executable, but it is an important part of the decision.

Use Microsoft Defender Offline when remediation is being interfered with

Choose an Offline scan if Defender cannot remove a detected threat, the process respawns immediately, or Windows appears compromised. Offline scan restarts the computer and scans before the normal Windows environment fully loads, which can prevent active malware from hiding or blocking removal.

  1. Save open work and connect the computer to reliable power.
  2. Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options.
  3. Select Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan), then choose Scan now.
  4. Allow the automatic restart and wait for the scan to complete.
  5. After Windows starts, review Protection history and check whether the file or its launcher remains.
Scan Use it when What to expect
Full scan Windows is stable and you need a broad examination of files and running areas. Windows stays in the normal desktop session while Defender scans.
Defender Offline A threat interferes with removal, the process respawns, or compromise is strongly suspected. The PC restarts and scans outside the ordinary Windows session.

Check persistence if the file returns

If the executable launches at every sign-in or comes back after removal, inspect the locations that can start programs automatically. Remove only entries you can confidently identify as malicious or unwanted; export or photograph an entry before changing it.

Task Scheduler

  1. Press Win+R, type taskschd.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Open Task Scheduler Library and inspect the task list and each task’s Actions tab.
  3. Look for an action that launches inputdispatcher_test.exe, a script that launches it, or an unfamiliar executable from a user profile or temporary directory.
  4. Check the Triggers tab for logon, startup or frequent timed triggers. If a task is clearly malicious, right-click it, choose Disable, then remove it after preserving its details for your records.

Microsoft documents scheduled-task creation as a persistence method used by threats. An unfamiliar task is not automatically malicious, so verify its author, action path and relation to installed software before deleting it.

Run and RunOnce registry values

  1. Press Win+R, type regedit, and press Enter. Approve the User Account Control prompt.
  2. Inspect HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun and HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunOnce.
  3. Check values that point to the file, an unknown script or an executable in a temporary or profile folder.
  4. Export the relevant key before deleting a confirmed malicious value. Do not remove Microsoft, driver or business-software entries merely because their names are unfamiliar.

Also inspect the Startup folder by pressing Win+R, entering shell:startup, and reviewing shortcuts. Microsoft’s guidance on ClickFix-style compromises highlights startup entries as another way unwanted code can persist.

Repair or uninstall Windroy

If the file is in C:Program FilesWindroy, Windroy is intentionally used and Defender finds no threat, repair the parent application rather than replacing the single executable. Use Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features in Windows 10), select Windroy and choose the available repair, modify or uninstall option. If Windroy supplies its own documented uninstaller, use that instead.

Close Windroy first. A repair can restore missing package components; an uninstall removes the software when it is no longer needed. Restart and check whether the executable remains. A leftover file can be removed only after confirming that no needed Windroy component, task or shortcut depends on it.

Choice Best fit Checks before proceeding
Keep or repair Windroy You intentionally use Windroy and the file is in its program directory. Path and signature are consistent, Defender reports no threat, and no unknown persistence is present.
Uninstall Windroy You do not use it, it is obsolete, or the file is repeatedly causing errors. Back up Android data or settings you still need, close the program, and use Windows’ app removal or Windroy’s documented uninstaller.

How to fix common inputdispatcher_test.exe errors

“The system cannot find” or “missing” error

This usually means a shortcut, startup item or Windroy component points to a file that was moved or removed. Find the launching shortcut or task and remove the stale reference, then repair or uninstall Windroy. Do not download a standalone replacement from an unverified site.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Application error, crash or immediate closure

Record the exact message and event time. Check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application for an event naming the faulting module. Reboot, install pending Windows updates, and repair Windroy if it is still required. If the crash occurs only when Windroy starts, test after a clean restart with nonessential startup programs disabled. A crash report alone does not prove infection.

“Access denied” or repeated relaunches

First run an updated Full scan and, if the behavior continues, an Offline scan. Then inspect Task Scheduler, Run and RunOnce entries. Do not take ownership of system folders or grant broad permissions just to delete a suspicious executable; those actions can weaken Windows security and obscure the original cause.

High CPU, memory or disk use

In Task Manager, confirm whether the resource use belongs to this process or to a parent process. Check the command line and path, allow Windroy to finish any legitimate operation, and run a security scan. If usage continues while Windroy is closed, investigate persistence or another process rather than assuming the filename is responsible.

Windows system-file corruption is also reported

For a separate problem involving protected Windows files, open an elevated Windows Terminal or Command Prompt and run sfc /scannow. Wait for verification to reach 100 percent and follow the result message. System File Checker repairs protected Windows files; it does not validate, replace or disinfect a third-party Windroy executable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can you delete inputdispatcher_test.exe?

Delete it only after you have identified its path and launcher. If Windroy is installed and needed, deleting one package file can break the application or cause repair prompts. If Windroy has been uninstalled and no task, shortcut or service references the file, removal is generally reasonable after a Defender scan.

If a security product identifies the file as malicious, follow the product’s quarantine or removal workflow rather than manually deleting it first. If you discover a confirmed compromise, preserve the detection details and avoid restoring the file from quarantine.

If you pasted a command from a web page or pop-up

ClickFix-style scams can persuade users to run commands that create scheduled tasks or startup entries. If that happened before the executable appeared, disconnect the PC from networks, complete an Offline scan, and remove confirmed malicious tasks or startup values. From a separate clean device, change important passwords and revoke active sessions. Reconnect only after scans and persistence checks show no continuing compromise.

Practical decision checklist

  • Windroy installed, expected path, valid signature, clean scans: keep the file, or repair Windroy if it is failing.
  • Windroy not needed, clean scans, no persistence: uninstall Windroy and remove documented leftovers.
  • Unexpected path or invalid signature: quarantine or investigate with Defender before deleting anything.
  • Threat detected or process respawns: run Defender Offline, inspect persistence and secure accounts from another device.
  • Only a Windows protected-file error is present: use sfc /scannow for that system-file issue, not as a fix for this executable.

As an optional shortcut after you have reviewed the manual steps, Outbyte PC Repair can look for common Windows problems, broken system elements, invalid redirects, shared DLL issues, settings that add CPU, RAM or disk load, temporary and cache files, privacy risks, missing updates and potentially unwanted applications. It includes a real-time boost, file shredder and app-crash log, runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7, and offers a free trial by category for at least two days before a subscription; it complements antivirus software and does not replace it, and results vary.
