PHYSINT is an action-espionage game from Kojima Productions, created by Hideo Kojima. The project was first announced with Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2024; in September 2026, the studio named Xbox as its new publishing partner and announced Bill Skarsgård as the lead. Kojima has described story and concept work, early 3D modeling and cast scans, but no release date, final platform list or engine has been confirmed.

What is PHYSINT?

PHYSINT is Kojima Productions’ third original intellectual property, described by the studio as an action-espionage game. It was announced in January 2024 as a new game made with Sony Interactive Entertainment. The studio said it intended to use advanced technology and a cast to blur the boundaries between film and games, with near life-like graphics and a new approach to interactive entertainment. Is PHYSINT a new Metal Gear?

It is not an announced Metal Gear sequel. PHYSINT is a separate Kojima Productions project, and the available announcements do not establish shared characters, story continuity or ownership with Metal Gear. The Washington Post has described it as Kojima’s return to the genre behind his best-known games, so “spiritual successor” can be a useful description of its espionage focus—but not a confirmed franchise connection. Who is publishing PHYSINT?

The partnership changed after the game’s original announcement. Kojima Productions announced Sony Interactive Entertainment as its partner in January 2024, then announced Xbox as the project’s new publishing partner on September 17, 2026. The Washington Post reported that Sony had stopped funding the project; that account is the newspaper’s reporting, distinct from the studio’s announcement of Xbox’s role. Xbox’s involvement does not, by itself, confirm the game’s full platform plan. Kojima Productions’ September 17, 2026 announcement

Who is in the cast?

Kojima Productions announced Bill Skarsgård as PHYSINT’s lead, alongside Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. The studio also said Skarsgård and Fraser took part in costume fittings, scans and camera tests earlier in 2026. Those activities point to cast and visual-development work, but do not reveal the characters’ names or the game’s plot. Kojima Productions’ cast announcement

What stage of development is the game in?

In a September 20, 2026 interview, Kojima said he had written PHYSINT’s plot and game concept, including storyboards. The studio had begun creating 3D models and scanning cast members. Kojima also said the team was experimenting with game engines and had not made a final selection. These are meaningful signs of development and preproduction, but they do not establish how close the game is to release. The Washington Post interview

When will PHYSINT be released, and what platforms will it support?

No release date or final platform list is established by the studio announcements and interview cited here. The confirmed publishing-partner change is not a substitute for a platform announcement, so claims about specific consoles or a launch window should be treated as unconfirmed unless Kojima Productions or its publishing partner announces them.
