Haunted Chocolatier is an unreleased role-playing and simulation game in development by Eric Barone, the creator who works under the name ConcernedApe. That distinction matters because the available material is a look at a game in progress, not a finished feature list. Barone has limited what he reveals while he works and has warned that showing unfinished systems can create expectations around details that may later change.
How the announced gameplay loop fits together
Gathering ingredients
Ingredient gathering is one of the clearest announced activities. The available descriptions indicate that players will obtain materials used in chocolate production. The game’s exact gathering locations, tools, resource categories and progression rules have not been specified in the official material reviewed, so it is too early to assume that the system works like Stardew Valley’s crops, fishing or mining.
Making chocolate
Chocolate production is the central crafting idea. Players are expected to turn gathered ingredients into chocolate products, but Barone has not published a complete recipe list, production interface or quality system. There is no confirmed information about whether recipes can be discovered, upgraded, combined or assigned different values in the shop.

Because those details remain unconfirmed, descriptions of a full tycoon-style management system would go beyond what Barone has announced. The safe conclusion is that shopkeeping is a major pillar of the game, not that every conventional store-management feature has been confirmed.
Combat and exploration
Combat appears in early gameplay material. That makes exploration a meaningful part of the project’s identity, but the official updates do not provide a finalized weapon list, enemy roster, difficulty model or combat progression system. Treat the footage as evidence that combat exists in the current build, not as a promise that every shown move or encounter will ship unchanged.

Is Haunted Chocolatier similar to Stardew Valley?
The useful comparison is at the level of broad design philosophy, not a one-to-one list of mechanics. Both games come from Barone and use a town-centered setting, but Barone presents Haunted Chocolatier as a different game with a different way of living.

Barone has described the project as another town game, but the available material gives it a more supernatural presentation than Stardew Valley. The title, visual atmosphere and shown encounters point toward a world in which the unusual is part of everyday life.

The setting is still being developed, and the official updates do not provide a complete story synopsis, map, cast list or explanation of the haunting. There is no confirmed account of the player character’s history, the source of the supernatural elements or the way the chocolate business fits into the wider plot. Those are open questions rather than gaps that should be filled with speculation.

Has Haunted Chocolatier been released?
No. Haunted Chocolatier remains in development. The official FAQ does not give a release date or even an estimated window, and later creator updates continue to avoid setting a target.
Barone has explained why he is not publishing a schedule. In the official FAQ, he wrote: “I want to be able to work in peace without the pressure of a release date, or even an estimated release date.” In a December 2024 update, he added: “I will not release a game unless it is complete and I am very happy with it.” A 2026 update stated the position even more directly: “I don’t want to give a release date.”
These statements mean that guessed years, retailer listings or countdowns should not be treated as an official schedule. The project could receive a date later, but none has been announced in the material covered here.
What is the development status?
The project has progressed beyond a concept, but the available updates do not establish that it is close to launch. Barone said he had made a vertical slice before spending a period working on Stardew Valley 1.6. A vertical slice is a representative section of a game used to develop and test the main direction; it is not the same as a finished product or a launch candidate.

Later posts in 2026 confirm that he is still working on Haunted Chocolatier. In an August 30, 2026 check-in, he wrote: “Working on Haunted Chocolatier is what I’m most eager and driven to do, out of everything.” That statement confirms continued motivation and active work, but it does not provide a completion percentage, launch window or guarantee that a particular feature will remain.

Which platforms will support Haunted Chocolatier?
PC is the only platform identified as certain in the official FAQ. Barone says he intends to bring the game to other major platforms, but an intention is not the same as a platform-by-platform confirmation.
Until specific console versions are announced, readers should not treat unlisted systems as confirmed. The same caution applies to handheld editions, cloud versions and storefront availability: the reviewed material does not establish them.
What has not been announced?
A careful answer to “what do we know so far?” also requires separating confirmed information from unanswered questions. The official material reviewed does not establish:
- A release date, release window or development countdown.
- A final list of supported consoles beyond the confirmed PC platform.
- A price, edition structure, early-access plan or launch storefront list.
- Whether multiplayer or cooperative play will be available.
- The final recipe, shop-management, combat or progression systems.
- The complete story, map, character roster or explanation of the supernatural elements.
- System requirements for PC.
Those omissions are normal for an unfinished game, and they should not be turned into negative claims about the project. They simply mark the boundary between what has been stated and what remains undecided or unrevealed.
How to interpret trailers, screenshots and creator updates
Separate shown features from promised final features
If a trailer shows combat, a shop interior or a particular interface, it is reasonable to say that the feature appears in the current development material. It is not reasonable to assume that every animation, menu or rule is final. Barone has explicitly warned that systems may evolve.
Use dates when judging status
A post from 2024 and a check-in from 2026 answer different questions. The 2024 update explains the interruption caused by Stardew Valley 1.6 work and the creator’s quality standard. The 2026 updates confirm continued work and the absence of a date. Neither supplies a schedule.
Prefer direct statements over predictions
The most reliable updates are Barone’s official FAQ and his own dated posts. A fan estimate, retailer placeholder or social-media rumor cannot override his stated position that he does not want to announce a release date yet.
What should prospective players expect?
Prospective players can reasonably expect a game built around a chocolate-making business, ingredient gathering and a supernatural town, with combat currently part of the design direction. They should also expect the shape of those systems to change while development continues.
The best present description is therefore narrower than many speculative summaries: Haunted Chocolatier is an in-development RPG/simulation from the creator of Stardew Valley, centered on making and selling chocolate, with exploration and combat shown in early material. It is not released, PC is the only confirmed platform, and no official release estimate exists.
Bottom line
Haunted Chocolatier is a distinct game rather than Stardew Valley 2. Its announced identity comes from the combination of ingredient gathering, chocolate production, shopkeeping and a haunted or supernatural setting, while early footage also includes combat.
