GoogleInputHindi.exe is associated with the former Google Input Tools Hindi installer for Windows. Verify its source and digital signature, scan it, and replace the legacy package with Windows’ built-in Hindi Indic Phonetic keyboard or Google Input Tools in Chrome.
What GoogleInputHindi.exe is
Google Input Tools is Google’s multilingual typing service. Google describes it as available for Google services, Chrome, Android devices and Windows, with support for more than 80 languages and input methods. Its features include input method editors (IMEs), transliteration, virtual keyboards and handwriting input. Hindi can be entered with transliteration or a Devanagari keyboard.

GoogleInputHindi.exe was the Hindi installer used by the discontinued Windows distribution. An archived record from the Institute of South and Central Asia Students lists the installer as 5.90 MB and version 1.1.2.4, and notes that the Windows software is no longer supported. The archive helps identify an old file; it is not a recommendation to download or run an archived copy.
A file with this name may therefore be an installer left in Downloads, a component of an older installation, or a renamed program unrelated to Google. Its location, signer and contents matter more than its spelling.

Is GoogleInputHindi.exe safe?
There is no yes-or-no answer based only on the name. A genuine historical installer can be legitimate, while a modified or repackaged copy from a mirror can be malicious, unsigned or incompatible with current Windows. Treat an unexpected copy as untrusted until you establish where it came from.
Checks that establish provenance
- Do not launch it while you investigate. Right-click the file, choose Properties, and record the complete path, file size and modification date. A copy in a temporary, randomly named or user-profile subfolder deserves extra caution; a path alone is not proof either way.
- Check the digital signature. In Properties, open Digital Signatures, select the signer and choose Details. Windows should report that the signature is valid and show a signer that matches the expected publisher. An absent, invalid or unknown signature means you should not run the file.
- Inspect the signature with PowerShell. Open PowerShell and substitute the actual path:
Get-AuthenticodeSignature -FilePath "C:pathGoogleInputHindi.exe" | Format-ListA Status of Valid is useful evidence, but it does not prove that an old program is supported or that the copy came from an official channel. A status such as NotSigned, HashMismatch or UnknownError is a reason not to execute it.
- Record a hash if you have a trusted reference. A SHA-256 hash identifies the exact bytes; it is meaningful only when compared with a hash published by a source you trust. The archived size and version alone are not a cryptographic match.
Get-FileHash -Path "C:pathGoogleInputHindi.exe" -Algorithm SHA256- Scan the file with current security software. In Windows Security, open Virus & threat protection, choose Scan options, select a custom scan and point it at the file. You can also use the context-menu scan option when it is available. Keep endpoint-security definitions current.
- Consider Microsoft’s IME warning. Microsoft has warned that third-party IMEs available at the Windows sign-in screen can create vulnerabilities and recommends a first-party Microsoft IME. That warning is a reason to avoid unverified or obsolete IME packages, especially on a shared or business computer.
If the source cannot be established, the signature is invalid, or a scan detects a threat, quarantine the file and do not attempt to “repair” it by downloading another copy from a mirror.

Why googleinputhindi.exe errors appear
- Unsupported software: the Windows edition of Google Input Tools is legacy software, so current Windows updates, browser changes or security policies can break it.
- Damaged or incomplete installer: an interrupted download or disk error can leave a truncated executable that will not start.
- Untrusted repackaging: mirrors may alter an installer, remove its signature or bundle unwanted software.
- Conflicting input methods: multiple third-party IMEs, language packs or startup entries can compete for the same text-services components.
- Permission and compatibility issues: a program designed for an older Windows release may fail under a standard account, application-control policy or modern security setting.
- Leftover references: uninstalling incompletely can leave a startup task, service, shortcut or registry reference that continues to call a file that no longer exists.
- Malware or impersonation: a file with a familiar name can be unrelated to Google. Unexpected network activity, repeated alerts or a location unrelated to an installation increase the risk.
What to do before fixing an error
- Capture the exact symptom. Note the full error text, whether it appears at startup or only when selecting Hindi, and the path shown in the message. A startup error and a failed installer require different remedies.
- Back up personal data. Copy documents and any custom dictionaries before uninstalling an input method. Do not export or copy an untrusted executable as a “backup.”
- Check whether Hindi is still needed. If the file is only an old installer in Downloads and no installed component uses it, you can remove the installer after scanning. If Windows still lists Google Input Tools, uninstall it cleanly rather than deleting individual program files.
- Create a restore point if your organization allows it. This gives you a rollback option before changing language packs or removing a component, although it does not make an unsafe executable safe.
Manual fix: remove the legacy package safely
1. Uninstall it through Windows
- On Windows 11, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps. On Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Search for Google Input Tools or a similarly named Hindi package.
- Select the entry, choose Uninstall, and follow the wizard. On older systems, use Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows even if the uninstaller does not request it. Restarting releases text-service processes and applies language-input changes.
2. Remove only the leftover installer
After the restart, scan the original file again. If it was merely an installer and you no longer need it, delete it from its folder and empty the Recycle Bin. Do not delete an executable from a live installation while Windows still lists that application; doing so can leave broken uninstall records and recurring startup errors.
3. Check startup and scheduled entries
Open Task Manager > Startup apps and disable an entry that clearly belongs to the removed Google Input Tools package. Also inspect Task Scheduler for a task with the same publisher and path. Disable or remove an entry only after confirming its file path; do not disable unrelated Windows text services.
4. Repair an incomplete uninstall
If the application remains listed but its uninstaller is missing, use Windows’ standard Apps repair or uninstall workflow when offered. Reboot, then remove only the now-orphaned shortcut or startup entry. Avoid registry “cleaner” utilities and random replacement executables: they can remove unrelated text-service settings and make recovery harder.

Install Hindi typing without the old executable
Windows 10 and Windows 11: Indic Phonetic keyboard
Microsoft’s first-party Indic Phonetic keyboards are the supported system-wide replacement. Microsoft says Indian-language users do not need to download an external IME for phonetic Indic text. The feature covers 10 Indian languages, including Hindi. Typing namaste, for example, can suggest नमस्ते.

- Choose Add a language, search for Hindi, select it and choose Next.
- Leave the language features you need selected and choose Install. Windows may download language components through Windows Update.
- Open Hindi’s Language options. Under Keyboards, select Add a keyboard and choose Indic Phonetic if it is not already present.
- Use the taskbar input-language control to switch between English and Hindi. The keyboard shortcut shown in that menu can also switch layouts.
The phonetic dictionary normally downloads in the background through Windows Update. If the keyboard reports that it is not ready, return to Hindi’s Language options and manually download Basic typing, then restart or sign out and back in.
Chrome only: Google Input Tools extension
If you need Hindi in websites rather than in every Windows application, use the current Google Input Tools extension for Chrome instead of the legacy Windows installer. This is a browser workflow and does not provide a system-wide Windows IME.

- Open Chrome’s extension menu and open the extension’s Extension options.
- Select Hindi and choose the transliteration or keyboard method you want.
- Turn the tool on from Chrome’s extension menu, then select the Hindi input method when you type in a supported page.
Google says Input Tools remembers corrections and maintains a custom dictionary for new or uncommon words and names. Browser extensions can be updated independently of Windows, but they apply only inside Chrome and may be restricted by an organization’s browser policy.

Choose the Windows keyboard when desktop applications, sign-in or system dialogs must accept Hindi. Choose the Chrome extension when your work is browser-based and you do not want to add a Windows-wide input method. Neither current option requires running an archived GoogleInputHindi.exe.

Fix errors that remain after removal
Startup pop-up names the missing file
Write down the path shown in the message. In Task Manager > Startup apps, disable the matching entry. Then check Task Scheduler and the startup folders for a shortcut pointing to that same path. Restart and confirm that the message is gone. If the entry belongs to a managed computer, ask the administrator before changing it.

Hindi is installed but typing produces Latin letters
Click the taskbar language indicator and select Hindi, then verify that Indic Phonetic, rather than an English layout, is selected. In Hindi’s Language options, confirm that Basic typing is installed. Let Windows Update finish, restart, and test in a simple text editor before testing a specialized application.
The Indic Phonetic keyboard says it is not ready
Open Settings > Time & language > Language & region > Hindi > Language options and download Basic typing manually. Check that Windows Update is not paused and that the computer can reach the update service. Sign out or restart after the download.
Chrome extension does not appear
Open Chrome’s extension menu and confirm that Google Input Tools is enabled. Reopen Extension options, make sure Hindi is selected, and test in a normal webpage. Private browsing, enterprise policy or a page that blocks extensions can prevent it from appearing; test another page before reinstalling anything.

An error continues even after uninstalling
Open Event Viewer and inspect Windows Logs > Application at the time of the failure. Look for the faulting application and module, then compare the path with the old Google Input Tools location. Check Task Manager > Startup apps and installed programs for remaining entries. Run Windows’ normal app repair or uninstall tools, restart, and scan again. Do not download a replacement executable from an unverified mirror.
Security software flags the file
Do not add an exclusion and do not launch it to see what happens. Quarantine it, record the detection name and path, and run a full scan. If the computer shows other suspicious behavior, disconnect it from networks where practical and follow your security provider’s malware-removal guidance. A clean result from one scan does not override an unknown source or invalid signature.

Deleting a file does not remove a startup reference or repair a damaged installation. If an error returns after deletion, find and remove the component that is trying to launch the old path rather than downloading a similarly named file.
