What Is Galactic Racer? Story, Gameplay, Platforms, and Star Wars Connections

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a runs-based racing adventure set in the lawless Outer Rim after the Empire’s grip has broken. You play Shade, an aspiring pilot entering the unsanctioned Galactic League to challenge its champion, Kestar Bool. Races use landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers, while Campaign, Scenario, and Arcade modes provide the main ways to play.

Developed by Fuse Games and published by Secret Mode, Galactic Racer launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It is a focused racing game with a story and progression system—not an open-world Star Wars role-playing game.

What kind of game is Galactic Racer?

Galactic Racer imagines the period after the Empire’s collapse, when the New Republic is still rebuilding and the Outer Rim has become fertile ground for gambling, entertainment, and personal power. The Galactic League is an unsanctioned racing circuit backed by syndicates and populated by pilots willing to risk their vehicles, reputations, and lives for money or glory.

Lucasfilm describes the game as a high-stakes, runs-based racing adventure. That wording matters. Instead of presenting one uninterrupted championship ladder, the campaign is built around repeated tours through events and decisions. A crash can end a tour, sending Shade back to the workshop and the beginning of another attempt. Some perks and unlocks persist, so failure is part of the intended progression rather than a simple game-over screen.

Star Wars Galactic Racer - PlayStation 5
  • COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
  • SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
  • BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
  • BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
  • CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.

Steam’s official listing presents the concept as a reinvention of racing in the Star Wars galaxy, with skill, strategy, and survival at its center. The format combines race driving with route choices, risk-and-reward decisions, equipment upgrades, and story encounters.

What Galactic Racer is not

There is no indication that Galactic Racer is a general-purpose open-world adventure in which you freely explore every planet on foot. The confirmed structure centers on races, campaign runs, scenarios, and arcade events. Its locations provide racing environments, and its story explains why Shade is competing, but the primary activity is still vehicle racing.

Galactic Racer’s story and characters

Shade enters the Galactic League

The campaign follows Shade, an up-and-coming racer with a personal grudge against the Bool family. Shade enters the Galactic League with a clear objective: remove Kestar Bool from the champion’s position and break the influence he has built around it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The story is therefore personal as well as competitive. Shade is not simply trying to set the fastest time; every run is connected to a conflict with the racer who controls the league’s hierarchy. The campaign uses race outcomes and event choices to shape the course of each attempt.

Kestar Bool, the Outer Rim champion

Kestar Bool is the reigning champion of the Outer Rim’s Galactic League. Official descriptions portray him as a pilot who uses his status to intimidate rivals and extend his influence. His position makes him more than a final opponent: he represents the system Shade is trying to overturn.

The Bool family’s connection to Shade supplies the campaign’s central grudge. As Shade advances, the goal is to survive the league’s dangers long enough to reach Kestar on equal terms.

Hibi’s workshop

Shade’s mechanic, Hibi, runs a workshop in the paddock. This is where players fit parts earned through runs or purchased from Hibi. The workshop gives the campaign a physical home and turns progress into a practical choice: resources can be directed toward improving a vehicle, preparing for the next tour, or pursuing other available upgrades.

Sebulba returns

Legendary podracer Sebulba appears in the campaign and helps prepare Shade for Kestar Bool’s schemes. His presence connects Galactic Racer to the older podracing tradition while giving the new story a recognizable veteran who understands the dangers of competitive racing in the Star Wars galaxy.

How the runs-based campaign works

  1. Begin a tour. Shade starts a new attempt through the Galactic League’s events and associated choices.
  2. Choose events and risks. The official description emphasizes decisions that shape each run, so the route is not presented as a fixed sequence of identical races.
  3. Race and collect rewards. Successful events can provide parts, tools, perks, and other unlocks used to prepare for later attempts.
  4. Return to the workshop. Hibi’s workshop is where compatible parts are fitted and the vehicle is prepared for another challenge.
  5. Recover from a crash. A crash can end the current tour. You regroup, retain certain progression, and begin another attempt with a different plan or improved equipment.

This structure makes every run a balance between immediate rewards and long-term survival. Taking a risk may produce a stronger upgrade or a more valuable route, but ending the tour early means losing the chance to complete the remaining events in that attempt. The official materials do not specify every perk, failure penalty, or event type, so those details should not be assumed from the runs-based label alone.

Game modes

Mode What is confirmed Best fit
Campaign Story-led runs following Shade’s conflict with Kestar Bool, with choices, progression, characters, and workshop upgrades. Players who want the narrative and long-term progression.
Scenario A named official mode separate from Campaign and Arcade. The reviewed descriptions do not detail its complete rules or scenario list. Players looking for structured challenges outside the main story.
Arcade A separate official mode focused on racing play rather than the campaign’s full narrative structure. Players who want shorter or more repeatable racing sessions.

The official sources identify these three modes but do not establish the exact number of events, difficulty settings, or race formats in each one. Those details may vary by platform version or receive updates after launch.

Vehicles and racing styles

Galactic Racer includes four confirmed vehicle categories. They are not presented as cosmetic swaps; official descriptions emphasize distinct craft classes and customization, suggesting that handling and preparation are important to how each race is approached.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Vehicle class Role in the game
Landspeeders Repulsorcraft used for ground-level racing across Outer Rim environments.
Speeder bikes Compact, agile racing machines that bring a different profile from larger speeders.
Skim speeders Racing craft included among the game’s distinct vehicle classes and customization options.
Podracers The class most directly tied to Star Wars’ established podracing tradition, including Sebulba’s involvement.

Players can earn parts, tools, and upgrades through runs, and Hibi fits those parts in the workshop. The available evidence confirms customization and class differences but does not provide a complete statistics chart, exact upgrade tree, or universal ranking of one class over another. Choosing a vehicle should therefore be based on the demands of a race and your preferred handling style rather than assuming that one craft is objectively best.

Planets and racing environments

Official articles name seven planets or locations associated with Galactic Racer: Jakku, Sentinel I, Lantaana, Derven Acos, Ando Prime, Tatooine, and Crait.

The gameplay reveal specifically highlights Sentinel I, Jakku, Ando Prime, and Lantaana. The broader official planet list also includes Derven Acos, Tatooine, and Crait. Because the sources do not publish a complete track-by-track map, it is safer to treat these as confirmed settings rather than assume each one contains a particular number of circuits or a specific surface type.

Jakku

Jakku is one of the game’s recognizable Star Wars locations and part of the franchise’s post-Imperial Outer Rim identity. Its inclusion places Galactic Racer within a setting associated with scavengers, wreckage, and harsh desert travel.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Tatooine

Tatooine connects the new game to the earliest cinematic image of Star Wars podracing. The planet is also strongly associated with the sport’s history, making it a natural setting for a game that places podracers alongside other repulsorcraft.

Sentinel I, Ando Prime, and Lantaana

These locations receive specific attention in the gameplay reveal. They represent the game’s effort to expand beyond familiar film locations with additional environments for the Galactic League.

Derven Acos and Crait

Derven Acos and Crait appear in the official location list. Their inclusion shows that the campaign’s circuit is not limited to desert worlds, although the available descriptions do not provide detailed environmental or track specifications for either location.

How Galactic Racer connects to Star Wars

Podracing’s legacy

The clearest connection is the return of podracing. The game includes podracers as one of its vehicle classes and features Sebulba, the veteran racer first associated with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The launch announcement explicitly connects Galactic Racer to the racing tradition established by The Phantom Menace and the earlier game Star Wars: Episode I: Racer. Galactic Racer does not simply reproduce that earlier game’s format; it places podracing inside a broader league that also includes landspeeders, speeder bikes, and skim speeders.

Outer Rim politics

The setting uses a familiar Star Wars pattern: the central government is rebuilding, while distant systems remain vulnerable to local power brokers. Kestar Bool’s control of the Galactic League fits that tradition. The league is entertainment, business, and intimidation at the same time.

Recognizable locations and a new cast

Jakku and Tatooine provide direct geographic links to the wider saga, while Crait and the newly named locations broaden the circuit. At the same time, the main conflict belongs to new characters—Shade, Kestar Bool, and Hibi—rather than retelling a film plot.

Lucasfilm’s stated aim

Craig Derrick, executive producer at Lucasfilm Games, described the goal as delivering a racing experience that is cinematic, skill-driven, and unmistakably Star Wars. Douglas Reilly, Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager, said the project was an obvious decision when a team with strong racing expertise proposed a new expression of racing in the galaxy.

Who is Galactic Racer for?

It suits players who want a story around racing

The Campaign mode gives context to each event, with Shade’s rivalry, Hibi’s workshop, Sebulba’s guidance, and Kestar Bool’s control of the league. Players who enjoy a narrative reason to keep improving a vehicle have a clear path through the game.

It suits fans of Star Wars vehicle history

The combination of podracers, landspeeders, speeder bikes, and skim speeders covers more of the franchise’s repulsorcraft vocabulary than a single-class racing game would. Sebulba, Tatooine, Jakku, and the link to The Phantom Menace provide familiar touchpoints without making the campaign a remake of an older story.

It may not suit players seeking a large open world

The confirmed design is a runs-based racing adventure with discrete modes and events. Anyone looking primarily for unrestricted planetary exploration, character combat, or a broad role-playing system should not assume those features are present.

Practical expectations before buying

  • Confirm your platform. The game is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; physical Standard and Deluxe editions are limited to the two current-generation consoles.
  • Check the live price. The US launch-era snapshots were $59.99 for Standard and $79.99 for Deluxe, but prices and regional offers change.
  • Check PC storage and hardware. The minimum listing calls for 50 GB on an SSD, 12 GB of memory, and one of the specified graphics processors.
  • Expect repeated attempts. Crashes can end a tour, while selected perks and unlocks carry into future runs.
  • Do not assume every multiplayer detail. Online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer are listed, but player limits and every console-to-PC pairing are not specified in the available official descriptions.
  • Review accessibility notes. Options are available for visual comfort, cues, captions, volume, and initial screen-reader navigation, with the stated limitation that not every gameplay element may be announced.

Bottom line: what is Galactic Racer?

Galactic Racer is a Star Wars racing adventure built around repeatable runs through an outlaw Galactic League. Shade’s attempt to unseat Kestar Bool supplies the story, Hibi’s workshop supplies the upgrade loop, and Sebulba and the podracing tradition connect the new campaign to the franchise’s racing history. With four vehicle classes, three named modes, locations ranging from Jakku and Tatooine to Sentinel I and Ando Prime, and releases on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, it is aimed at players who want structured racing with a Star Wars narrative rather than a free-roaming galaxy simulator.
