faceitservice.exe is the executable associated with the FACEIT Anti-Cheat Windows service, commonly shown in Windows as FACEITService. A genuine copy is normally installed as part of FACEIT Anti-Cheat, but the filename alone does not prove that an unexpected copy is legitimate. Check the installation source and digital signature before allowing, deleting, or replacing it.
FACEIT Anti-Cheat is more than one executable: it combines a user-facing client, a kernel-mode driver loaded at Windows startup, and server-side components. The correct fix therefore depends on whether Windows reports a disabled service, a crash, a blocked driver, or a performance conflict.

What faceitservice.exe does
FACEIT’s integration documentation identifies FACEITAC_Installer.exe as the elevated installer for its Windows service. FACEIT support refers to that service as FACEITService, while service catalogs commonly display the executable filename as FACEITService.exe (often searched as faceitservice.exe). The capitalization and the way Task Manager displays the name can vary; the important check is whether the file belongs to an intentional FACEIT Anti-Cheat installation.

FACEIT’s product description says the Anti-Cheat software activates and collects game and Anti-Cheat data when Counter-Strike is running. Its 12 June 2026 EULA separately states that the driver runs continuously and collects device and anti-cheat-relevant process information, while the client runs when the user opens it. These statements describe different layers: the boot-time driver can be present even when the game and client are closed, whereas game-related activity is tied to a running match.
Is faceitservice.exe safe?
The answer is conditional. If you deliberately installed FACEIT Anti-Cheat from FACEIT’s official distribution, the service executable is a legitimate part of that product. FACEIT says it designed the software with computer safety and data privacy in mind and cites access controls, external review, GDPR compliance, external auditing, and Microsoft and Symantec driver certification on its product materials. Those are the vendor’s claims, not an independent malware verdict for every file on every computer.
A file named faceitservice.exe can be copied or renamed by someone else, so do not trust the name by itself. Use the following checks before taking action:

- Confirm that you intended to install FACEIT Anti-Cheat. If nobody using the PC installed FACEIT, treat the file as unexpected until you identify its source.
- Locate the service. Press Win+R, enter
services.msc, and look for FACEITService. Open its properties and note the executable path. An installation that is not associated with FACEIT should be investigated rather than assumed genuine. - Inspect the file’s properties. In File Explorer, right-click the executable, choose Properties, and review the Digital Signatures tab when present. Check that the signer is the expected FACEIT publisher and that Windows reports the signature as valid.
- Scan an unexpected copy. Use your current Windows security software to scan the file and its containing folder. A clean scan is useful evidence but does not replace checking the publisher and installation history.
- Do not delete it solely because of its name. Removing a service component can leave FACEIT incomplete and can prevent protected matches from starting. If you no longer want FACEIT, use the normal Windows uninstall path instead.
If the signature is missing or invalid, the location is unrelated to a known FACEIT installation, or security software reports a problem, disconnect from protected matchmaking and investigate that copy before starting it. Do not download a replacement executable or DLL from an unofficial “fix” site.

Fix “The service cannot be started”
FACEIT’s published explanation for this exact message is that the Anti-Cheat service has been disabled. Set its startup type to Manual rather than leaving it disabled.
- Sign in with an administrator account.
- Press Win+R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - Scroll to FACEITService. If the list is long, click the Name column and type the first letters to jump to it.
- Double-click the service. In Startup type, choose Manual.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Close and reopen the FACEIT client and retry the protected match.
If the service is absent, the path points to a missing file, or the same message returns after setting Manual, do not download a standalone executable. Use FACEIT Support or repair the installation through Windows’ installed-apps controls.
Fix crashes and launch failures
Work through these checks in order. Test FACEIT and the game after each material change so you know which change affected the result.

1. Scan for malware and altered Windows files
FACEIT recommends checking for malware that may have modified critical Windows files. Run a current security scan, then open Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin) and run:

sfc /scannowWait for the verification to finish and follow any repair message. Restart Windows before testing again. If System File Checker reports files it could not repair, use Microsoft’s current Windows-repair guidance rather than replacing FACEIT files from a download site.
2. Reinstall or update the graphics driver
Install the latest driver supplied by your graphics-card manufacturer. FACEIT advises reinstalling the graphics driver even when Windows says it is current, because modified drivers are unsupported. Prefer the manufacturer’s official installer and restart when it requests one. Avoid “driver fixer” packages that bundle unrelated software.
3. Remove Smart Game Booster
FACEIT specifically identifies Smart Game Booster as a possible cause because it modifies DirectX files. If it is installed, uninstall it temporarily through Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or the equivalent Control Panel uninstaller on older Windows), restart, and test. Keep it removed while diagnosing; reinstall only if the crash is resolved and you have confirmed compatibility.
4. Clear administrator compatibility settings for the game
FACEIT says the game executable should not be configured to run as administrator. Right-click the game’s executable or its shortcut, choose Properties > Compatibility, clear Run this program as an administrator, select Apply, and launch the game normally. Check both the shortcut and the executable if they have separate compatibility settings.

5. Isolate unrelated third-party software
Overlays, hardware monitors, capture tools, security products, and tuning utilities can interact with a protected game. FACEIT’s launcher provides a documented option for testing with third-party software disabled or excluded. Use that option as FACEIT describes, then re-enable software one item at a time. Do not permanently disable security protection; use a controlled test and restore normal protection afterward.

FACEIT blocks some drivers because known vulnerabilities could be abused to bypass Anti-Cheat. The warning does not necessarily mean that FACEITService itself is damaged; it usually identifies another driver installed by hardware-control, monitoring, RGB, overclocking, or similar software.
- Read the blocked-driver name in the FACEIT message and note which application installed it.
- Open that application’s official support or update page and install a version that removes or replaces the vulnerable driver.
- If no safe update exists, uninstall or replace the application. Removing only a random file can leave a broken service and is not a reliable fix.
- Restart Windows when FACEIT instructs you to. Its support guidance says a restart can block the driver and allow Anti-Cheat to run.
- If the driver belongs to essential hardware software and no compatible release exists, contact that developer before removing it.
Do not bypass the block by renaming the driver, changing permissions, or downloading an altered copy. The block exists because the driver presents a security risk to the Anti-Cheat environment.

A clean boot can reveal a conflict without proving that FACEITService is defective. FACEIT’s procedure retains Steam and FACEIT while temporarily disabling other non-Microsoft services.
- Press Win+R, type
msconfig, and press Enter. - Open the Services tab.
- Tick Hide all Microsoft services. This prevents the diagnostic step from disabling core Microsoft services.
- Choose Disable all for the remaining services.
- Re-enable Steam Client Service and FACEITService.
- Select Apply, then OK, and restart Windows.
- Launch Steam, FACEIT, and the game and test FPS and input response.
If performance improves, return to msconfig and re-enable disabled services in groups, restarting and testing between groups. When the problem returns, narrow that group to identify the conflicting overlay, monitor, security product, or other utility. Restore services you do not need for testing only after recording which one caused the conflict. If a clean boot changes nothing, restore the normal service configuration and investigate graphics settings, game updates, and hardware conditions separately.
Repair, uninstall, or reinstall FACEIT Anti-Cheat
Use Windows’ installed-apps or uninstaller path when you want to remove the product. The official material does not publish one universal manual deletion sequence for every current build, so avoid deleting service entries, drivers, or DLLs by hand.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and locate FACEIT Anti-Cheat, or open the corresponding Control Panel uninstaller.
- Choose Uninstall and follow the prompts. Restart if Windows or the uninstaller requests it.
- Download the current
FACEITAC_Installer.exeonly from FACEIT’s official distribution path. - Run the installer with the required elevation, allow the Windows service and driver components to install, and restart when prompted.
- Open FACEIT, sign in, and verify that
FACEITServiceappears inservices.mscbefore joining a protected match.
If reinstalling does not restore the service, record the exact error, Windows edition, installer result, and any blocked-driver name before contacting FACEIT Support. Those details distinguish a disabled service from a driver-policy or third-party conflict.
Can you disable or delete faceitservice.exe?
You can stop or disable a Windows service, but doing so prevents FACEIT Anti-Cheat from functioning and can stop you from joining protected Counter-Strike 2 matches. If you only need to stop automatic service activity while troubleshooting, use services.msc and change the setting deliberately, then return it to the required state before launching FACEIT. Do not delete the executable, service registration, or kernel driver manually. Uninstall the product through Windows if you no longer want it, or use the official installer to restore a damaged installation.
When the file uses CPU or memory
A service-related process can appear in Task Manager even when no match is running because the Anti-Cheat architecture includes a driver that loads at boot. High or persistent CPU use is not authenticated by the filename alone and is not, by itself, proof of malware. First verify the publisher and file path, then check for a current FACEIT update, a blocked or outdated companion driver, and third-party overlays or monitoring utilities. If the load began after installing another utility, use the clean-boot procedure above to test that conflict. Uninstalling a security component or killing a protected process at random can create a new launch failure.
For a suspicious copy, preserve the file path and signature details, run a security scan, and avoid launching it until you have identified its origin. For a genuine installation that still fails after the documented service, driver, Windows-file, and clean-boot checks, FACEIT Support is the appropriate escalation route.
