diskmark64s.exe (normally shown as DiskMark64S.exe) is the 64-bit Shizuku Edition component of CrystalDiskMark, a storage-benchmark program from Crystal Dew World. It measures sequential, random and mixed read/write performance; it is not a Windows repair utility. A filename alone does not prove that a copy is safe. Verify its complete path, digital signature, provenance and Microsoft Defender results before allowing it to run. If a trusted installation is damaged, reinstall CrystalDiskMark from the publisher; if the file is unexpected, unsigned or detected, quarantine it rather than trying to repair it.
What diskmark64s.exe is
Windows may display the process as diskmark64s.exe, while the executable is commonly capitalized DiskMark64S.exe. Windows file names are not case-sensitive, so the capitalization does not create a different program. The file is normally associated with the Shizuku Edition of CrystalDiskMark, whose publisher describes the application as “a simple disk benchmark software.”

CrystalDiskMark reads and writes test data to a selected drive so you can compare sequential performance (large, mostly continuous transfers) with random and mixed workloads. The executable itself does not clean Windows, remove malware or repair a failing disk. It is a measurement component of the benchmark application.

Where a legitimate copy may be installed
Process records commonly show a desktop installation under a path such as C:Program FilesCrystalDiskMark8DiskMark64S.exe. A Microsoft Store or packaged Shizuku installation can instead appear under a WindowsApps CrystalDiskMark Shizuku package. Those examples help identify a normal installation, but neither path by itself proves that the file on your computer is genuine. A malicious program can be given the same name or placed in a convincing folder.

Why it may be running
The usual reason is that CrystalDiskMark, or a shortcut or script that starts it, is performing or preparing a benchmark. If you did not intentionally open the program, use Task Manager to identify the executable’s location and inspect which application started it before deciding that it is unwanted. Do not terminate a benchmark while it is writing test data unless you accept that the test will be incomplete.
Is diskmark64s.exe safe?
There is no safe-or-malicious verdict based solely on the name. Treat the file as unverified until these checks agree:

Microsoft explains that a SmartScreen message saying a download is “not commonly downloaded” is a reputation warning, not proof that the file is malicious. It is still a reason to pause and check the signature, source and scan results. Conversely, a familiar-looking name is not an exemption from scanning. A separate third-party record for the different filename DiskMark64.exe reported a Virus.Neshta detection; that is not evidence that DiskMark64S.exe is infected, but it demonstrates why similarly named executables must be assessed individually.

How to verify the file before running it
- Open the file’s location. Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. On the Processes or Details tab, find the DiskMark process, right-click it and choose Open file location. Record the complete path. If Task Manager cannot locate it, search for every copy ofDiskMark64S.exeanddiskmark64s.exerather than trusting the first result. - Inspect Properties. Right-click the executable, choose Properties, and review the Digital Signatures tab. Open the signature details and confirm that Windows reports it as valid and that the publisher is the one you expect. A missing or invalid signature does not automatically prove malware, but it means you should not bypass warnings or run the file casually.
- Check the source. Ask how the file got there. A CrystalDiskMark installation you deliberately obtained from Crystal Dew World’s official page is materially different from an executable delivered in an unsolicited attachment, a pirated bundle or a random troubleshooting download. If you cannot establish its origin, preserve the path and scan it before opening it.
- Scan the individual file. Right-click it in File Explorer and choose the Microsoft Defender scan option available on your Windows edition. A clean result is useful evidence, not a guarantee; keep the file’s path and signature information together when assessing it.
- Update Defender and run a full scan. Open Windows Security, go to Virus & threat protection, install the latest security-intelligence updates, then choose Scan options and run Full scan. This checks more than the one executable and can reveal a program that is recreating suspicious copies.
- Use Defender Offline when unwanted software persists. If detections return after reboot, or security settings cannot stay enabled, choose Microsoft Defender Offline scan in the same scan-options area. Windows restarts into a separate scanning environment, which can inspect files that are difficult to remove while Windows is running.
- Respond to a detection. Let Defender quarantine or remove a detected copy. Microsoft advises allowing a file only when you trust both the software and its publisher. Do not add an exclusion merely to make an unsigned or unexpected DiskMark file run.
Optional hash and provenance check
A cryptographic hash can help you compare a file with a value published by a source you trust, but a hash is meaningful only when the reference value and download channel are authentic. A matching name without a trusted hash, valid signature and known source is not enough. If you record a hash for later comparison, keep the exact file path and version with it; two legitimate CrystalDiskMark releases will not necessarily have the same hash.
Fixing diskmark64s.exe errors manually
Choose the branch that matches what Windows reports. Do not replace the executable with a similarly named file from a search result.

1. Recheck the installation and security history
Before reinstalling, repeat the path, signature and Defender checks. A “missing” file may have been quarantined, while a crash may be caused by an unexpected duplicate elsewhere on the system. In Windows Security, open Virus & threat protection and review Protection history. If Defender removed the file, do not restore it until you have established that the installation and publisher are trusted.

2. Reinstall or update CrystalDiskMark
For a legitimate but missing or corrupted copy, obtain the current installer from Crystal Dew World’s official page and reinstall it. Remove or repair the existing installation using the normal Windows app-uninstall route first if it is still listed, then install the trusted package again. Avoid copying a replacement .exe from another computer: the program’s supporting files and package registration may also be damaged.
Confirm that the release supports your Windows edition and processor architecture. CrystalDiskMark documentation lists support for x86, x64 and ARM64 on the Windows and Windows Server releases it names. A package intended for a different architecture or an unsupported Windows release can fail even when the file itself is genuine.
3. Do not download replacement DLLs from random sites
A missing-component message can tempt you to search for an individual DLL. That approach can install an altered file, create a version mismatch or introduce malware. Reinstall the complete, trusted CrystalDiskMark package instead. If the installer itself fails, retain the exact error text and move to the Event Viewer and security-history checks below rather than collecting DLLs from unrelated download sites.

4. Check permissions and security-software interference
If the file is signed and came from a trusted installation but Windows reports an access error, confirm that your account can read and execute the installation folder and that the drive is available. Review your security product’s quarantine and blocked-application history for the same timestamp. Do not permanently disable protection to make the benchmark start. If a temporary, documented exception is required by your security product, remove it after testing and only use it for the verified installation.
5. Use Event Viewer for repeatable crashes
Open Event Viewer from the Start menu, expand Windows Logs, choose Application, and look for an error at the time of the crash. Record the faulting application name, faulting module, exception code and path. These details distinguish a damaged DiskMark installation from a Windows component, driver or storage-stack problem. A recurring fault in a different module is a reason to investigate that component rather than repeatedly replacing DiskMark64S.exe.

If Task Manager opens a location outside the expected CrystalDiskMark installation, close the related program without launching the file, scan the copy and review its signature. Search for other instances and check whether a shortcut, scheduled task or startup entry points to it. Quarantine or remove a detected copy through Defender. If the copy is not detected but remains unexplained, preserve the evidence and seek qualified technical help; do not assume that a clean single-file scan proves the surrounding program is safe.

Some apparent failures are actually differences in test setup. CrystalDiskMark warns that results depend on the test-file size and position, fragmentation, the storage controller and interface, RAID or NVMe configuration, CPU speed and the selected test data. A result from one drive or configuration cannot be treated as a universal speed rating.
Make comparisons reproducible
- Use the same drive and connection type, such as the same internal interface or USB enclosure.
- Keep the test-file size and test-data mode the same. A file that does not fit in the same area of the drive can produce different results.
- Record whether the drive is fragmented and whether it is part of a RAID or NVMe configuration.
- Use the same CrystalDiskMark major version. Results from different major versions are not compatible for direct comparison.
- Note the processor and other system conditions when comparing machines.
- Do not treat one run as a permanent property of the drive; background activity and the drive’s state affect measurements.
Protect SSD and USB flash storage
Benchmarking writes test data. Repeated tests add write activity and can shorten the service life of SSDs and USB memory. Use the smallest test workload that answers your question, avoid unnecessary repeated runs, and keep backups of important data. Never select a drive for testing unless you understand which data the benchmark will write and where it will write it.
How to stop or remove diskmark64s.exe safely
Stop a running benchmark
If you started CrystalDiskMark and need to stop it, use the program’s own stop or close control first. Ending the process from Task Manager is a fallback for an unresponsive window, but it abandons the current test and may leave incomplete test data. Stopping the process does not determine whether the file is safe; perform the verification and scan steps separately.
Remove an unwanted installation
- Disconnect from activities that could be writing to the suspicious file, then run an updated Defender full scan.
- Use Protection history to quarantine or remove detections. Run Defender Offline if the copy returns after restart.
- If the copy is a legitimate CrystalDiskMark installation you no longer need, uninstall it through Windows’ installed-apps interface rather than deleting random files from a package folder.
- After removal, inspect shortcuts and startup locations for references to a leftover copy, and scan again.
Legitimate and suspicious copies: a practical comparison

When the problem is the drive, not the executable
A genuine DiskMark process can expose an existing storage or configuration problem without causing it. If the benchmark repeatedly fails on one drive, compare another trusted drive or interface, check whether the drive is part of RAID or uses NVMe, and note whether the failure follows the hardware or the Windows installation. Do not interpret a low score alone as proof of malware or a broken executable; test conditions and hardware configuration have a direct effect on results.
Questions to answer before escalating
- What is the exact path shown by Task Manager?
- Does Properties show a valid digital signature and the expected publisher?
- How was the program installed, and can you identify the download source?
- What did updated Defender full and, if needed, Offline scans report?
- Does the error occur only during a benchmark, or does the process run when CrystalDiskMark is closed?
- Which CrystalDiskMark major version, Windows edition and processor architecture are involved?
- What faulting module and exception code does Event Viewer record?
Having these details prevents a generic “DLL missing” replacement from masking the real cause and makes it easier to distinguish an unsafe copy from a damaged but legitimate benchmark installation.
