If you are in the United States, Crunchyroll is currently the best overall site for watching anime legally. It has the strongest selection of new weekly releases, simulcasts, dubs, and anime-focused catalog content. It is not a complete library, though: licensing differs by country and title.
The practical answer is to use Crunchyroll as the default, then check HIDIVE, Netflix, or a free service when a particular show is missing. For one specific title, JustWatch is more useful than any permanent “best site” list.

Best overall: Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll is the strongest single choice for most U.S. anime viewers because it concentrates on the part of the market that changes fastest: current-season anime. Its seasonal listings include simulcasts, release times, dubbed-episode schedules, and territory restrictions.
Its Summer 2026 lineup, for example, includes ONE PIECE, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4, Re:ZERO Season 4, BLACK TORCH, and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 3. That makes it the easiest recommendation if you want to watch new episodes shortly after their Japanese broadcast.
#1 Best Overall
- Long Range Digital Amplified Outdoor TV Antenna: Exclusive Smart pass amplifier technology improves better reception than the old version and provides much better signal reliability on windy or rainy days; Please first find out where the local broadcast towers are in your area
- 360° Omni-Directional Reception: Receive UHF/VHF signals from all directions while providing clear 4K pictures, no need to rotate, no need the remote control as traditional huge outdoor antennas; No need to worry about local weather as it’s made of moisture-proof and flame-retardant materials; Say goodbye to endless adjustment
- One TV Output: The outdoor HDTV antenna is uniquely designed to support one TV; We recommend that you use only one antenna per television; When you add a splitter that divides the received signal strength between each television, it may mean that you may not get all of the channels you would get otherwise
- Built-in Pre-Amplifier And 4GLTE Filter: Allows you to boost signal right at the antenna, and removes interference and channel loss caused by 4G mobile phone signals, making up for the signal loss from long cable runs and splitters; According to the signal range, the amplifier enlarges suitable multiples to ensure the coverage extension
- Save On Installation Fees: No tools are needed for easy installation; For home, RV, attic, marine use, including a 32ft RG6U coaxial cable, which makes it easy to place the amplified HDTV antenna in high-reception areas; Compared with big-size traditional antenna, this modern antenna is much easier to install with our included accessories
Crunchyroll’s U.S. prices changed for existing subscribers on billing dates after March 4, 2026:
| Plan | Monthly price |
|---|---|
| Fan | $9.99 |
| Mega Fan | $13.99 |
| Ultimate Fan | $17.99 |
A limited annual Fan offer was listed at $66.99 for one year. Promotions and checkout prices can change, so verify the amount on Crunchyroll’s subscription screen before paying.
Do not interpret “best overall” as “has every anime.” Shows can be divided between services by country, season, language, and licensing agreement. Even Crunchyroll’s own seasonal pages show territory-specific availability.

Its website currently displays conflicting subscription prices: one section says plans start at $6.99 per month, while another says $7.99. Treat both as promotional or page-level information and confirm the actual amount at checkout.
That inconsistency is a good reminder not to choose a service based only on a headline price. Search for the shows you actually intend to watch, then decide whether one month of access is worthwhile.
Netflix is best for its own releases
Netflix is not the best general anime replacement for Crunchyroll, but it is often the correct answer for a Netflix-exclusive series. It also carries several major mainstream shows, including ONE PIECE, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Frieren.
The trade-off is that Netflix’s anime catalog and release model are shaped by its broader entertainment service. Some shows arrive in batches rather than as weekly simulcasts, and availability changes by country. It makes sense if you already subscribe to Netflix or specifically want a title in its catalog—not as an automatic replacement for an anime-focused service.

Best free legal options
Tubi is the simplest free recommendation. It is ad-supported, legal, and does not require a subscription or credit card. The catalog is narrower than Crunchyroll’s, but it includes recognizable older and mainstream titles.
RetroCrush is another legitimate option for older anime. It focuses on material from the 1970s through the 1990s and offers both free viewing and a premium plan. Its listed premium price is $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year, with a seven-day trial. The available catalog can change, so check the title page before relying on it.
“Free” does not automatically mean illegal. Services such as Tubi and RetroCrush offer licensed viewing, usually supported by advertisements or a limited catalog.

- Open the correct season or series listing.

JustWatch tracks services including Crunchyroll, Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. It is a discovery tool, not a permanent guarantee: licenses expire, and availability can change after the listing is updated.
What happened to Funimation?
Funimation is not a current alternative. The Funimation website and app closed on April 2, 2024. Recommendations that still list Funimation as an active anime-streaming site are outdated. Former Funimation content and accounts were moved into the Crunchyroll ecosystem where applicable, but availability still depends on licensing and territory.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why unofficial streaming sites are a poor long-term answer
Unofficial anime domains may appear attractive because they offer large catalogs without a subscription, but they are unstable and risky. Domains frequently change names or disappear, embedded players can be overloaded with aggressive advertising, and there is no dependable guarantee of subtitle quality, uptime, or privacy.

FAQ
What is the best anime streaming site right now?
For viewers in the United States, Crunchyroll is the best overall legal option for current seasonal anime, simulcasts, and a large anime-focused catalog. Use JustWatch to check whether a specific show is available there.
Is Crunchyroll better than Netflix for anime?
Crunchyroll is generally better for weekly anime releases and breadth within anime. Netflix is the better choice for Netflix-exclusive titles and may already be worthwhile if you subscribe for its broader entertainment catalog.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What is the best free legal anime site?
Tubi is the strongest general free recommendation because it is legal, ad-supported, and does not require a subscription or credit card. RetroCrush is particularly useful for older anime.
Is Funimation still available?
No. The Funimation website and app closed on April 2, 2024. It should not be recommended as a current standalone anime-streaming service.
The Bottom Line
For most U.S. viewers, start with Crunchyroll. Add HIDIVE when it has a title you want, use Netflix for its exclusives, and check JustWatch before subscribing for one particular series. If you want free viewing, choose Tubi or RetroCrush. No legal service has every anime, and unofficial streaming sites are neither a stable nor a safe substitute.
