What Is contpaq_i_configuracion.exe? Is It Safe, and How to Fix Its Windows Errors

contpaq_i_configuracion.exe is a CONTPAQ i configuration utility, not a standard Windows process. It opens the “Conexión – Configuración de BDD” window used by Contabilidad-Bancos. The documented location is C:Program Files (x86)CompacUtilerias, although the utility can also be started from the Windows Start menu.

A copy in that expected folder, installed from an official CONTPAQ i package and carrying a valid CONTPAQ i digital signature, is consistent with legitimate software. A same-named file in Downloads, Temp, an email attachment, a cracked-software bundle or another unrelated folder is not automatically safe. Work through the path, signature, version and symptom checks below before allowing or replacing the file.

What contpaq_i_configuracion.exe does

It belongs to CONTPAQ i

CONTPAQ i documentation identifies contpaq_i_configuracion.exe as the utility that opens the Conexión – Configuración de BDD window for the Contabilidad-Bancos application. “BDD” refers to the database connection settings that Contabilidad-Bancos needs in order to reach its data. The executable is therefore an installed application component, not a Windows system file required by every PC.

Installation inventories also list the filename in CONTPAQ i Administrador de Documentos Digitales and related CONTPAQ i packages. Reported file sizes vary by product and version, so size alone is not a reliable authenticity test.

Expected location and ways to start it

The vendor’s documented path is:

C:Program Files (x86)CompacUtileriascontpaq_i_configuracion.exe

On a normal installation, you can launch the utility from the CONTPAQ i entry in the Windows Start menu or browse to that path in File Explorer. The “(x86)” directory is normal when the installed CONTPAQ i component is a 32-bit program on 64-bit Windows.

Is contpaq_i_configuracion.exe safe?

Safety depends on the particular copy, not just the spelling of its filename. A file in the Compac Utilerias directory, installed through an official CONTPAQ i distribution and signed by the expected CONTPAQ i publisher, matches the vendor’s software. A file with the same name elsewhere could have been renamed or replaced and must be investigated separately.

Check provenance before opening the file

  1. In File Explorer, right-click the file and choose Properties. On the General tab, note the complete location and whether Windows marks the file as having come from another computer. Do not rely on the filename alone.
  2. Open the Digital Signatures tab. Select the listed signature, choose Details, and confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and that the publisher is the expected CONTPAQ i/Compac entity. A missing, invalid or unrelated signature is a reason to stop and verify the installation.
  3. Run a scan with your installed antivirus or Microsoft Defender. Use the scan result together with the path and signature; a clean scan cannot turn an untrusted download into an official installer.
  4. Check how the file arrived. CONTPAQ i’s guidance is: “Descarga siempre nuestro software desde los canales oficiales CONTPAQi®.” Do not replace a missing file by copying a same-named executable from another computer or an unofficial download site.

There is no published official hash in the available guidance

The referenced CONTPAQ i material does not publish a current cryptographic hash for contpaq_i_configuracion.exe. You can record a hash for your own incident report with PowerShell, but there is no official value in that material against which to confirm it:

Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 'C:Program Files (x86)CompacUtileriascontpaq_i_configuracion.exe'

For that reason, do not label every copy safe or unsafe from a hash you found on an unrelated website. Use the installation source, exact path, digital signature and antivirus result together.

Why SmartScreen or antivirus may warn after a certificate change

CONTPAQ i explains that a warning can appear temporarily when an application receives a new certificate. Microsoft SmartScreen and antivirus products may still be building reputation for the new certificate, so a legitimate installer or executable can be flagged while recognition catches up. CONTPAQ i says this warning should stop appearing once the certificate has sufficient reputation and notes that new desktop-system installers began including the updated certificate on May 5, 2025.

That explanation is not a blanket exemption. If the file is outside the expected installation directory, has an invalid signature or came from an unofficial source, quarantine it and investigate instead of creating an exception.

Match the fix to the symptom

Identify the symptom before changing security or reinstalling software. The following decision points keep the repair narrow.

Symptom First checks Most appropriate route
The configuration window never appears or closes immediately Path, installed version, permissions and Windows build Run as administrator; update or repair CONTPAQ i, especially if using an earlier 13.x build
The executable is missing Search the Compac installation directory and Start menu Repair or reinstall the matching Contabilidad/Bancos component from an official package
A report action does nothing Whether the report-related executable is being prevented by DEP Use the vendor/distributor DEP procedure only as a version-specific workaround and involve support
Defender or SmartScreen blocks the file Path, publisher signature, source and scan result Update to a current CONTPAQ i build; use only a narrowly scoped exception for a confirmed installation

Fix a configuration window that will not open

1. Confirm the installed copy

  1. Press Windows, type contpaq_i_configuracion.exe, and choose Open file location if Windows finds a shortcut.
  2. In File Explorer, inspect the shortcut’s target and verify that it resolves to the Compac Utilerias directory. If search finds several copies, do not launch all of them; identify the one belonging to the active CONTPAQ i installation.
  3. Open Properties and check the version and digital signature before proceeding.

2. Run it with administrator rights

CONTPAQ i’s documented fix for the historical database-configuration-window problem is to run the utility elevated.

  1. Right-click contpaq_i_configuracion.exe.
  2. Select Run as administrator.
  3. Approve the User Account Control prompt only after you have confirmed the path and publisher.
  4. When the Conexión – Configuración de BDD window opens, make the required database changes and close the utility normally.

Elevation can solve a permissions problem, but it does not make an untrusted file safe. If the UAC prompt names an unexpected publisher or the file is in a temporary directory, cancel it and return to the provenance checks.

3. Check whether the historical 13.x issue applies

CONTPAQ i records that version 13.2.3 corrected an earlier 13.x problem in which the configuration window either failed to open or appeared briefly and closed on specified Windows 10 Pro builds. The ticket names Windows 10 Pro x64 build 19041.264 and build 19041.388. If your installation is an earlier 13.x release and your PC matches one of those builds, updating the matching Contabilidad-Bancos component to 13.2.3 or a later supported build is more appropriate than repeatedly launching the old executable.

Do not mix a configuration executable from one CONTPAQ i release with database components from another. Record the installed CONTPAQ i version from its About or product information screen, then obtain the corresponding update or repair package through official CONTPAQ i support channels.

4. Restart and retry from the Start menu

After updating or changing permissions, restart Windows and launch the utility from the CONTPAQ i Start-menu entry. This verifies that the registered installation points to the same file you inspected. If the Start-menu entry is missing while the file exists, use the verified executable directly and make a note of the missing shortcut for support.

Repair a missing or damaged executable

Search before replacing anything

Use File Explorer search in C:Program Files (x86)Compac and check the Recycle Bin. A missing Start-menu shortcut is different from a missing executable. If the file exists in the expected Utilerias folder, verify its signature and recreate access through the product’s own shortcut rather than downloading another copy.

Repair or reinstall the matching component

  1. Close Contabilidad-Bancos and other CONTPAQ i programs.
  2. Back up business data according to your organization’s normal CONTPAQ i procedure before removing or repairing software.
  3. Use the official CONTPAQ i installer or the product’s Windows repair option for the installed Contabilidad/Bancos version. Select the matching language, edition and release; do not install a different release merely because its filename looks similar.
  4. Restart Windows when the installer requests it.
  5. Afterward, verify that the executable is back under the Compac Utilerias directory, inspect its signature, run an antivirus scan and test the configuration window as administrator.

If an installer refuses to repair the component, capture its exact message and the installed version instead of copying the executable from an untrusted PC. CONTPAQ i’s official-distribution guidance is particularly important for a missing system component because a replacement file may not match the rest of the installation.

When a report action does nothing: the DEP workaround

A distributor procedure places contpaq_i_configuracion.exe and other CONTPAQ i executables in the Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) exception list, then restarts Windows. Treat this as a version-specific secondary workaround, not a universal fix. DEP is a Windows mitigation, so weakening it broadly can reduce protection.

  1. First confirm the file’s path, signature and source. Do not add an unknown copy to an exception list.
  2. Open Control Panel, select System and Security, choose System, then Advanced system settings.
  3. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, select Settings.
  4. Open the Data Execution Prevention tab. Choose the option to turn on DEP for all programs and services except those selected.
  5. Select Add, browse to the verified CONTPAQ i executable in the Compac Utilerias directory, and add only the program named in the support procedure. Do not disable DEP globally.
  6. Apply the change and restart Windows. Test the report action once.

If the report still fails, remove the exception or ask CONTPAQ i support to confirm that the workaround applies to your exact product and Windows build. A DEP exception should not conceal a damaged installation, an incompatible release or a security problem.

Handle a Defender or SmartScreen block safely

When the file is confirmed legitimate

  1. Stop the launch and inspect the file’s complete path and digital signature.
  2. Run an antivirus scan and record the detection name, file path and action taken.
  3. Check for a current CONTPAQ i update. Certificate and reputation issues are more likely to be resolved in a current official build than by repeatedly approving an old installer.
  4. If installation still requires an exception, create the narrowest exception possible for the confirmed application or license-server directory identified by CONTPAQ i guidance. Avoid excluding an entire drive, Downloads folder or Temp directory.
  5. After installation, remove a temporary installer exception if it is no longer needed and rescan the final executable.

When the file is not confirmed

Quarantine the file, do not click Allow, and do not add an exception. Preserve the alert details and ask your organization’s administrator or CONTPAQ i support how to obtain a fresh official package. An unexpected location, invalid signature, or unrelated publisher outweighs a matching filename.

Use version and Windows-build information to choose the next step

Information to record Why it matters
CONTPAQ i product and edition The utility is shipped with Contabilidad-Bancos and appears in related CONTPAQ i packages; the correct repair must match the installed component.
Installed CONTPAQ i version Version 13.2.3 is specifically identified as correcting the historical configuration-window behavior in earlier 13.x releases.
Windows edition, architecture and build The historical ticket names Windows 10 Pro x64 builds 19041.264 and 19041.388; behavior can differ on another edition or build.
Exact file path and publisher These distinguish an installed Compac component from a same-named file downloaded elsewhere.
Symptom and timing Launch failure, report failure, a missing file and a security block require different remedies.

To collect Windows build details, press Windows+R, enter winver, and record the edition, version and OS build shown. In the executable’s Properties, use the Details tab to record product version and file description. Keep these records with screenshots of any Defender, SmartScreen or installer message.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Searching only by filename: Windows can find multiple copies, including leftovers and downloads. The path and signature are essential.
  • Running as administrator before checking provenance: elevation grants more access; it is a troubleshooting step for a verified installation, not a safety test.
  • Downloading a replacement DLL or EXE from a random site: the filename may match while the code and version do not.
  • Disabling antivirus or SmartScreen globally: use a narrowly scoped, temporary exception only after confirming the official installation.
  • Disabling DEP for every program: the documented workaround is an exception for selected CONTPAQ i executables, followed by a restart and a support check.
  • Mixing releases: copying a 13.x utility into a different CONTPAQ i installation can create version mismatches and make later support harder.

When to contact CONTPAQ i support

Escalate when the verified executable still will not open after an administrator launch and a matching update or repair; when the installer reports a database, licensing or component error; when a security product continues to block a signed official build; or when the DEP workaround is being considered for a production machine. Provide the product edition, CONTPAQ i version, Windows edition and build, exact path, signature status, antivirus detection, and the precise action that fails. This lets support distinguish a historical 13.x launch defect from permissions, installation damage, certificate reputation or a report-specific problem.

As an optional shortcut after these manual checks, Outbyte PC Repair can address more than 100 common Windows issues where possible, including broken system elements, invalid redirects and shared DLL files, and it can provide cleanup, privacy and vulnerability-check features.
