clhnserviceforpowerdvd19.exe is the name associated with the CLHNServiceForPowerDVD19 Module installed with CyberLink PowerDVD 19. It is not a native Windows service. The filename alone cannot prove that a copy is safe: check its location, digital signature, version and SHA-256 hash. If Windows reports that it is missing, corrupt or a bad image, repair or reinstall the complete PowerDVD package rather than downloading a replacement EXE from an unrelated site.
What clhnserviceforpowerdvd19.exe is
ProcessChecker identifies CLHNServiceForPowerDVD19.exe as the CLHNServiceForPowerDVD19 Module, developed by CyberLink Corp. The observed copies are associated with a CyberLink PowerDVD 19 installation directory. ProcessChecker records version 1.0.12716, along with more than one observed file size and hash. ExeFiles associates the same filename with CyberLink PowerDVD 19 and lists file version 1.0.0.12716, with a 2019 release association on its page updated December 12, 2025.

Those entries describe a component of an application, not a Windows component. CyberLink’s PowerDVD 19 PC Mode Help establishes the parent-product context, but that manual does not certify every copy of this executable, any particular hash, or every installation that uses the name. A file can retain a familiar name while being copied, modified or replaced elsewhere.

Why Windows reports this file
PowerDVD or another startup entry can call this module when Windows starts, when PowerDVD opens, or when a feature that depends on it is loaded. ExeFiles lists messages such as “CLHNServiceForPowerDVD19.exe could not be found,” “The file is missing or corrupt,” “Bad Image,” and other startup or runtime errors. These messages are symptoms, not a diagnosis.

Common causes
- Removed file: an uninstall, cleanup action or security product may have deleted the executable while another PowerDVD component still expects it.
- Moved file: a manually moved application folder or changed drive letter can leave a shortcut or startup entry pointing to the old path.
- Damage: interrupted updates, storage errors or a failed installation can corrupt the executable or its supporting files.
- Version mismatch: part of PowerDVD may have been updated, restored or copied without the rest of the dependency set.
- Unwanted impersonation: malware can use a PowerDVD-like filename, particularly when the file is outside the application directory.
A missing-file dialog does not by itself prove malware, and a file that launches successfully is not automatically trustworthy. Establish the file’s identity before deleting or replacing anything.
Is clhnserviceforpowerdvd19.exe safe?
There is no universal safe-or-unsafe answer based only on the filename. Treat legitimacy as a combination of four signals:
- Full path: a legitimate copy is expected in the CyberLink PowerDVD installation directory. A copy in
C:WindowsorC:WindowsSystem32deserves extra scrutiny because File.net warns that malware can camouflage itself with the related CLHNServiceForPowerDVD name in those locations. - Digital signature: the Properties dialog should show a valid signature from the expected publisher. An absent, invalid or unexpectedly different publisher is a warning, not proof by itself.
- Version: compare the file’s displayed version with the PowerDVD installation and the available metadata. ProcessChecker reports
1.0.12716; ExeFiles reports1.0.0.12716. Different formatting does not automatically mean malware, but an unexplained mismatch should be investigated. - SHA-256 hash: calculate the exact file’s hash and compare it with a trustworthy record for the same PowerDVD build. Do not compare only the name or only the first few characters.
Security results are also file-specific. ThreatInfo by GridinSoft lists PowerDVD-related hashes with different detection labels. That variation is why a scanner result must be interpreted against the exact hash and file, rather than treating every PowerDVD-related entry as identical. No authoritative CyberLink statement was found declaring every copy of this filename safe.

- Copy the complete path. In the error dialog, right-click the path if that option exists, or use Task Manager, the startup entry or File Explorer to locate the referenced file. Record the drive and every folder name.
- Open file properties. Right-click the EXE, choose Properties, and note the General and Details tabs, including file version, product name and original filename.
- Check the signature. Open the Digital Signatures tab. Select the listed signature, choose Details, and confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid. If the tab is absent, or validation fails, record that result.
- Calculate a SHA-256 hash. In PowerShell, use the exact path you recorded:
Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 -LiteralPath 'C:pathtoCLHNServiceForPowerDVD19.exe'
Replace the example path with the real one. Save the complete hash, not just a shortened fragment. You can also inspect the Authenticode status from PowerShell:
Get-AuthenticodeSignature -FilePath 'C:pathtoCLHNServiceForPowerDVD19.exe'
These commands report what is on your computer; they do not declare the file safe. Keep the path, version, signature status, hash and the exact Windows error together.
Scan first when the location or signature is suspicious
Run an up-to-date security scan before trying to restore a suspicious copy. This is especially important when the file is in a Windows system directory, has no valid publisher signature, has a hash that does not match the expected PowerDVD build, or has already triggered a detection.

- Record the product’s detection name, the full path and the SHA-256 hash.
- Quarantine or remove the file according to the security product’s guidance if it is confirmed harmful.
- After remediation, scan again and inspect startup entries for a reference to the deleted path.
A detection label can vary by scanner and by hash. ThreatInfo’s differing labels for PowerDVD-related hashes illustrate why the exact file matters. If a scanner gives an inconclusive result, avoid launching the file and proceed with a clean application reinstall after the machine is considered safe.

Repair a genuine but missing or damaged PowerDVD component
If the path belongs to your PowerDVD installation, the signature and hash are consistent with the build, and your security scan finds no threat, restore the application as a complete package. Replacing one executable can leave other DLLs, services and registry entries mismatched.
Option 1: Use the original PowerDVD installer
- Locate the original installer or installation media for the same PowerDVD edition and release family.
- Close PowerDVD and other CyberLink programs.
- Run the installer and choose its repair or reinstall option if it offers one.
- Allow the installer to restore all program files and dependencies. Do not copy only
CLHNServiceForPowerDVD19.exefrom another computer. - Restart Windows if the installer requests it, then open PowerDVD and test the action that previously failed.
The exact repair choices vary by installer. If no repair option is offered, use the complete uninstall-and-reinstall procedure below instead of forcing a single-file replacement.
Option 2: Uninstall and reinstall the complete package
- Save any PowerDVD preferences or activation information that you need.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps in current Windows versions. On older Windows editions, open Control Panel → Programs and Features.
- Select the CyberLink PowerDVD 19 entry, choose Uninstall, and follow the wizard.
- Restart Windows after the uninstall finishes.
- Install PowerDVD again from an installer obtained directly from CyberLink or from the original media supplied with your licensed copy. Do not use a random EXE/DLL download site.
- Apply any updates supplied for that installation, restart if requested, and test playback or the feature that produced the error.
Reinstalling the complete application restores the dependency set rather than guessing which related component is missing. If the installer itself fails, note its error code and available disk space, then contact CyberLink support or use the installer’s repair guidance rather than downloading a replacement executable.
If you no longer use PowerDVD
When PowerDVD is no longer needed, removing the parent application is safer than leaving a broken startup reference behind.

- Uninstall PowerDVD through Settings → Apps → Installed apps, or through Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Run another security scan.
- Check Task Manager → Startup apps and Task Scheduler for an orphaned entry that still points to the old PowerDVD path. Disable or remove an entry only when you can identify it as belonging to the uninstalled application.
Do not delete an EXE from a system directory simply because its name resembles the PowerDVD component. Verify ownership and path first.

“The file could not be found” at startup
Confirm whether PowerDVD is still installed. If it is installed, repair or reinstall the package so its startup reference and files are recreated together. If it was removed, uninstall the remaining PowerDVD entry or disable the clearly identified orphaned startup task after recording its path.
“The file is missing or corrupt”
Use Properties and the hash steps above. A damaged file should be replaced by the original installer, not by copying an EXE from a download site. If the installer repeatedly produces corruption, check the storage drive and Windows event logs for broader disk or system problems.

“Bad Image”
“Bad Image” commonly indicates that Windows cannot load the executable or one of its dependencies. A complete PowerDVD repair or reinstall is the appropriate first application-level fix. If the message names a different DLL, record that filename too; replacing only the named file can create another version mismatch.

The file is detected as malware
Stop launching it, preserve the path and hash, follow the security product’s quarantine procedure, and scan again. Reinstall PowerDVD only from a trusted CyberLink source after the security issue has been handled. Do not restore the quarantined file merely to make the error disappear.
The error returns after reinstalling
Compare the newly installed file’s path, signature, version and hash with the details you recorded. Check whether a security product is removing it, whether the installer is for a different PowerDVD edition, or whether an old startup task still points to a previous directory. Repeated failures across other applications may indicate a wider Windows or storage problem rather than this one component.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Trusting the filename: names are easy to copy; path, signature, version and hash provide stronger evidence.
- Downloading a stand-alone EXE: ExeFiles cautions that CyberLink normally distributes this file inside an installer. An incorrectly installed executable can destabilize the program or operating system.
- Deleting before recording details: you lose the hash and path needed to interpret a security alert.
- Replacing only one dependency: PowerDVD components are version-linked; a single-file swap can leave the installation inconsistent.
- Assuming every alert is identical: ThreatInfo shows that PowerDVD-related hashes can receive different detection labels.
- Leaving an orphaned startup entry: uninstall the parent application or remove the clearly identified task so Windows stops calling a nonexistent path.
How to verify the repair
After a repair or reinstall, verify the result rather than relying only on the disappearance of one pop-up.

It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7, offers a free trial of at least two days by category and then requires a subscription. It complements antivirus software rather than replacing it; results vary and no tool repairs every crash.
