BASupSrvc.exe is normally the service executable for N-able Take Control (also associated with N-central remote-management deployments). N-able describes it as the component that allows remote sessions and keeps communication working between Take Control, N-able N-central and the cloud infrastructure. It is not a native Windows core file, so its safety depends on why it is installed, where it runs from, who signed it and what Microsoft Defender reports. Do not delete the file based on its name alone.
What BASupSrvc.exe does
BASupSrvc.exe belongs to a remote-support or IT-management agent rather than to Windows itself. On a managed business computer, a technician may use that agent to establish an authorized support session, exchange status with N-central and maintain the connection to the vendor’s cloud service. If your organization uses N-able Take Control, seeing this process can therefore be normal.

Independent file references commonly associate the executable with folders named BeAnywhere Support Express or other Take Control directories. Those names are clues, not a universal rule: product releases, 32-bit versus 64-bit installations and administrator-selected paths can place the file elsewhere. The filename alone cannot establish whether a copy is genuine.

That means Windows can start it in the background before a user opens a desktop application. A legitimate installation may therefore appear in Task Manager even when no support window is visible. Conversely, malware can copy a familiar filename, so a process with this name in an unrelated location needs verification.

When is BASupSrvc.exe safe?
Use several checks together. A single result, such as a familiar filename or a clean reputation score on a process website, is not enough to diagnose a file.

These checks establish context, not a mathematical guarantee. A signed file can still be part of an unwanted installation, and an unsigned file can be damaged or replaced. If the path, signer and ownership of the computer do not line up, treat the copy as potentially masquerading as the real service until an administrator verifies it.
How to inspect the file before changing anything
- Open Task Manager. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, select the Details tab, locate
BASupSrvc.exe, right-click it and choose Open file location. In older Task Manager layouts, use the Processes tab, expand the related service and choose Open file location. - Record the complete path. Copy it into a note along with the file’s modified date and the exact time any error appeared. Do not move or rename the file while investigating.
- Check version and signer information. Right-click the file, choose Properties, and review the Details and Digital Signatures tabs. Select the signature, choose Details, and confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and identifies the expected N-able publisher.
- Identify the registered service. Press Win+R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. Look for a Take Control, BeAnywhere or N-able-related service. Open its properties to see the service name, startup type and executable path. Do not change the startup setting yet if the machine is organization-managed. - Scan the exact file. In File Explorer, right-click
BASupSrvc.exeand select Scan with Microsoft Defender. Microsoft documents this targeted scan option for a particular file or folder. Allow the scan to finish and save the detection name, if any, for your IT administrator.
If you cannot find a corresponding N-able program or service, or the file runs from an unexpected directory, disconnect the computer from networks only if your organization’s incident procedure allows it and contact the person responsible for the device. Do not attempt to prove legitimacy by uploading confidential company software to an unknown online scanner.

Why BASupSrvc.exe may crash or show an error
Reports associated with this filename include application errors, “has stopped working” messages, missing-file notifications and repeated crashes. Those descriptions do not identify one universal cause. The practical possibilities are:
- Damaged or incomplete agent installation: an update, failed disk write or interrupted removal may leave the executable or its supporting files inconsistent.
- Quarantine or security blocking: Defender or another security product may have isolated the file, preventing the service from starting.
- Incompatible software changes: a Windows update, policy change or new security control can interfere with an older remote-management component.
- Broken service registration: the program files may exist while the Windows service points to a path that no longer exists.
- Impersonation or tampering: a copy in a temporary or user-writable folder, an invalid signature or a malware detection indicates that the filename may be disguising another program.
- Windows component corruption: if several unrelated applications fail, the problem may extend beyond the N-able agent and involve damaged Windows component files.
Manual repair sequence for BASupSrvc.exe errors
Work through these steps in order. Keep the original error text and path; they determine whether the correct remedy is an agent repair, a complete removal or Windows component servicing.
1. Capture the exact failure
- Write down the complete message, including any module name or error code, and note whether it appears at startup, when a technician connects or at random.
- Open Event Viewer by pressing Win+R, entering
eventvwr.mscand pressing Enter. - Expand Windows Logs, select Application, and use Filter Current Log to narrow the time range. Also inspect Windows Logs > System for service-start failures.
- Record the event source, faulting application, faulting module, exception code and executable path. These details are more useful to an administrator than a generic “stopped working” description.
2. Scan the file and its directory
Run the targeted Microsoft Defender scan described above. If Defender reports a threat, choose the recommended remediation and do not restore the file merely to make the service start. Preserve the detection name and, if your security team requests it, the file hash and path. An offline Defender scan may be appropriate when malware is detected or when a process repeatedly reappears after removal; follow the prompts in Windows Security and your organization’s incident procedure.

3. Confirm that the parent agent is installed
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (Windows 11) or Settings > Apps > Apps & features (Windows 10). Search for Take Control, BeAnywhere, N-able or an entry supplied by your IT provider.
- If the computer is managed, ask the provider to confirm the expected agent version and policy before repairing it. Remote-support software may be required for help-desk access, monitoring or security response.
- If the program is listed and Windows offers Modify, Repair or a similar option, use that option only when it comes from the installed package or your administrator. Otherwise obtain the current installer from the organization or vendor support channel that manages the device.
Do not download a loose BASupSrvc.exe from an EXE-download site. A replacement must match the installed Take Control product, architecture, configuration and deployment policy; a random copy can leave the service registered incorrectly or introduce malware.

4. Repair Windows components when the symptoms are broader
Use Windows servicing commands when Event Viewer shows component failures or multiple Windows applications are damaged, not as a substitute for repairing a missing N-able agent. Open Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows Terminal (Admin), approve the User Account Control prompt, and run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /RestorehealthWait for DISM to reach completion. It may take time and can appear idle while servicing the component store. Then run:

sfc /scannowMicrosoft instructs users to run DISM before System File Checker when repairing missing or corrupted Windows system files. Restart Windows after both commands finish. If SFC reports files it could not repair, keep the result text and provide it to the administrator; repeating the same command without addressing the component-store or disk problem will not necessarily help.
5. Recheck the service after repair
- Restart the computer.
- Open
services.mscand verify whether the Take Control/N-able service starts without an error. - Check Task Manager for the process and confirm that its path is unchanged.
- Re-run the targeted Defender scan if the file was restored or replaced by an approved installer.
If the service still crashes, send the administrator the Event Viewer details, installer or repair log, executable path, signer result and Defender result. Those records allow the managed-support team to match the failure to the correct agent build instead of guessing.
Can you disable or delete BASupSrvc.exe?
Do not delete only the executable. Because it maintains remote sessions, stopping it can interrupt authorized technician access, monitoring or support. Deleting the file while leaving a Windows service registration behind can also create repeated startup errors and an orphaned service entry.
If the computer is still managed
Ask the organization or technician that installed the agent before changing it. If support access is needed, disabling the service can prevent them from connecting when you need help. An administrator can schedule an approved maintenance window or change the policy through the management system.
If the computer is no longer managed
- Confirm with the former provider or owner that the agent is no longer required and obtain any approved removal instructions.
- Uninstall the parent Take Control, BeAnywhere or N-able agent from Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features on Windows 10), or use the organization’s approved uninstaller.
- Restart Windows when the uninstaller requests it.
- Check
services.msc, Task Manager and the original installation directory for leftovers. Remove residual folders only after confirming that no other managed component uses them. - Run Microsoft Defender again and review Event Viewer for any remaining service-start errors.
N-able’s documentation describes the service relationship but does not provide one universal uninstall command for every deployment. The correct removal method can vary by version, management platform and policy, so avoid copying a command from an unrelated installation.
Choosing the right remedy

Important limitations and safety notes
- There is no authoritative universal file size, version number or hash for every BASupSrvc.exe installation. Those values change with the N-able product release and deployment.
- No reliable prevalence, malware-rate or failure-rate statistic establishes how often this filename is malicious or broken.
- A clean scan does not prove that an unexpected remote-support installation is authorized. Ownership and the installation path still matter.
- Stopping the process may close an active support session or prevent a technician from connecting.
- Registry cleaners and generic DLL/EXE replacement sites cannot determine which Take Control build and configuration your computer requires.

When escalation is necessary, provide the exact error text, event timestamp, full executable path, service name, signer status, Defender result and whether the computer is organization-managed. Include whether DISM and SFC completed and what each reported. This concise evidence lets the administrator decide between agent repair, complete agent removal, malware response or Windows servicing without destroying information needed to diagnose the failure.
