What Is anydesk 3.exe? Is It Safe, and How to Fix anydesk 3.exe Errors on Windows

anydesk 3.exe is a filename, not proof that a file is genuine or malicious. It can be an AnyDesk executable that Windows or a download process renamed with a duplicate suffix, but it can also be an unrelated program using AnyDesk’s name. Do not open an unexpected copy. Verify its location, digital signature, origin and security-scan results first.

AnyDesk’s certificate guidance says clients obtained from its official sources are safe to use despite a certificate change. On Windows, the practical test is whether the file is the expected client, carries a valid signature from AnyDesk Software GmbH (or, for an older client, philandro Software GmbH), and came from an installation you intended. Microsoft also documents that attackers can abuse remote-management software for backdoor access, so an unsolicited or tampered copy requires incident-style cleanup rather than a routine reinstall.

What the “(3)” in anydesk 3.exe means

Windows commonly adds a number in parentheses when a downloaded or copied file would otherwise have the same name as an existing file. That is a plausible explanation for a file displayed as AnyDesk (3).exe, but the authoritative AnyDesk pages do not document the exact rule that produced this suffix. The number is therefore not an authenticity mark, version number or malware verdict.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The name may arise from several situations:

  • A user downloaded the client repeatedly and a browser saved another copy instead of overwriting the first.
  • An installer, backup or support technician copied the executable and Windows retained a duplicate name.
  • A legitimate executable was renamed by a person or script.
  • An unrelated program was deliberately given a familiar remote-support name.

An ANY.RUN sandbox report includes a sample named AnyDesk (3).exe in a Windows Recent/CustomDestinations location and linked from a desktop shortcut. That proves the name has appeared in a suspicious sample; it does not prove that every file with the same name is malicious. Treat the filename as a clue and investigate the file itself.

Is anydesk 3.exe safe?

Safety depends on provenance, path, signature and behavior, not spelling. A client downloaded intentionally from AnyDesk and signed by the expected publisher is materially different from an unsigned copy delivered during an unsolicited “support” call. AnyDesk describes its legitimate service as using TLS 1.3 connections, RSA-2048 key exchange, 256-bit AES transport encryption, identity and access management, and configurable permissions. Those controls protect the genuine product; they cannot make a renamed, modified or unwanted executable safe.

What you observe What it suggests What to do
Installed under C:Program Files (x86)AnyDesk, obtained intentionally, and signed by AnyDesk Software GmbH Consistent with a legitimate current installation Keep it only if you need AnyDesk; update it and review permissions
Signed by philandro Software GmbH Could be an older legitimate client Update to a current official release before using it
In Downloads, Temp, AppDataRoaming or another unexpected directory Could be a duplicate, portable copy or suspicious payload Do not launch it; verify the source and scan it
Missing, invalid or unrelated digital signature Cannot be authenticated as the official client Quarantine or delete it, remove its firewall allowance and perform a full scan
Appeared after an unsolicited call, pop-up, email or chat Strong social-engineering warning Disconnect remote access, preserve evidence and follow the cleanup steps below
Defender detection, unexplained outbound connections, suspicious processes or open ports Possible abuse of remote-management software Use Microsoft’s response: remove the executable and firewall rule, then run a full scan

Verify the file before you run it

Use this workflow for every unexpected copy, including one whose name differs only by “(3)”. Work from an administrator account when Windows asks for elevation, and do not approve a security prompt merely to make the file run.

  1. Do not open an unexpected copy

Cancel unsolicited remote-support sessions and close the browser or chat that delivered the file. If someone is currently connected, end the AnyDesk session and disconnect the computer from the network if you suspect active abuse. Do not double-click the executable to “see what it does”; launching it can grant remote access before you have checked it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  2. Record the complete path

Right-click the file, choose Properties, and note the location shown on the General tab. AnyDesk’s certificate-check instructions identify C:Program Files (x86)AnyDesk as a common installed-client directory. A copy in Downloads, a temporary folder, AppDataRoaming, Recent/CustomDestinations, or a randomly named directory deserves extra scrutiny. The path alone is not proof: portable clients and legitimate installers can be elsewhere, while malware can imitate a normal path.

  3. Inspect the digital signature

In Properties, open Digital Signatures, select the signature and choose Details. A current client should identify AnyDesk Software GmbH. An older client may show philandro Software GmbH; AnyDesk recommends updating such clients. Windows should report that the digital signature is valid and that the file has not been altered since signing. A missing, invalid or unrelated signer is a stop signal. Do not rely on an icon, filename, publisher text on the General tab or a shortcut’s description.

  4. Check how the file arrived

Ask whether you deliberately installed AnyDesk, which account downloaded it and whether the download came from AnyDesk’s official Windows page. A file sent by an unsolicited caller who claims to be Microsoft support, a bank, an employer or a security company should be treated as untrusted even if its icon looks genuine. If you installed AnyDesk yourself, compare the file’s location and signature with that known installation rather than with a copy supplied by somebody else.

  5. Scan without executing

Right-click the file and choose the Microsoft Defender scan option available on your Windows edition. Then open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection and run a Full scan. A clean result does not authenticate an unsigned file, and a detection should be taken seriously. If the machine may have been accessed remotely, scan the entire device rather than only the directory containing the executable.

  6. Review signs of remote access

Open Task Manager and look for an unexpected AnyDesk process or another process launched at the same time. In Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > Advanced settings, review inbound and outbound rules that mention AnyDesk or an unfamiliar executable. Microsoft recommends checking suspicious processes and open ports when AnyDesk behavior is suspicious. You can record active connections with the built-in netstat -abno command from an elevated Command Prompt, then match a process ID to Task Manager; do not terminate a process solely because its name contains “AnyDesk.”

  7. Decide whether to keep it

Keep a signed, intentionally installed client only when you have a real need for remote support and have reviewed its access permissions. Quarantine or delete an unexpected, unsigned or detected copy. If you are uncertain, preserve the file path and scan result for your administrator or security provider instead of launching it to gather more information.

How to remove a suspicious anydesk 3.exe

Microsoft’s documented response to suspicious AnyDesk behavior is to delete the executable, remove the firewall rule that allowed it, run a full scan and check for suspicious processes or open ports. The following sequence applies that guidance while reducing the chance that a running process recreates the file.

  1. End the remote session and isolate the device

Use AnyDesk’s own disconnect control if it is visible, then close the window. If you believe an attacker is active, unplug Ethernet or turn off Wi-Fi. Isolation may interrupt legitimate work, but it prevents continued remote control while you investigate.

  2. Stop the process

Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc. On the Processes or Details tab, select the unexpected AnyDesk process and choose End task. If Windows refuses, restart into Windows Recovery Environment or Safe Mode and continue there. Do not end a process merely because it is named AnyDesk when you have verified a legitimate session.

  3. Remove the file and related shortcut

Return to the recorded path, quarantine the file through Defender or delete it, and empty the Recycle Bin only after you have retained any information your administrator needs. Remove a desktop or Start-menu shortcut that points to the suspicious path; a shortcut can relaunch a file even after you forget where it was stored.

  4. Remove its firewall allowance

Go to Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > Allow an app through firewall and clear an entry you do not recognize. For more control, open Advanced settings, inspect Inbound Rules and Outbound Rules, and delete or disable rules tied to the suspicious executable. Removing a rule for a legitimate installation will stop connections, so record the path before deleting it.

  5. Check persistence locations

Review Settings > Apps > Startup, Task Manager > Startup apps, and Task Scheduler for entries that launch the suspicious path. Also inspect shell:startup in File Explorer. Disable or remove only entries that clearly point to the unwanted file; an unfamiliar name by itself is not enough evidence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  6. Run the full scan and apply updates

In Windows Security, select Virus & threat protection > Scan options > Full scan. Install current Windows security updates and restart when prompted. If Defender reports a threat, follow its quarantine or removal instructions and scan again after restarting.

  7. Change credentials from a clean device

If an unknown person had interactive access, assume passwords typed during the session may have been observed. From a different, trusted device, change the affected account passwords, enable multifactor authentication where available and notify your workplace, bank or service provider if their systems were accessed. This is a response to possible remote access, not a claim that every AnyDesk error represents an infection.

Fix ordinary AnyDesk errors safely

If the file is intentional, signed and clean, troubleshoot the actual error rather than deleting a working installation. AnyDesk’s official FAQ covers connection issues, status messages, fatal errors, setup, installation, security and general troubleshooting; use the exact wording of your message when looking up the applicable branch.

Connection blocked or the client cannot reach the network

  1. Confirm that Windows is online and that the problem affects AnyDesk rather than all applications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  2. Open Windows Security > Firewall & network protection and check whether the intentional, signed client is allowed. Portable mode can trigger a Windows Defender Firewall prompt. Allow it only when you installed that copy deliberately and verified its signature.

  3. If a corporate, school or security-network filter is present, ask its administrator to allow *.net.anydesk.com, as AnyDesk recommends. Do not bypass an organizational filter by downloading an alternate executable.

  4. Check the firewall’s inbound and outbound rules for a denied rule that references the correct installation path. Correct or remove the denied rule, then restart AnyDesk.

Fatal error, startup failure or repeated crash

  1. Write down the complete error text and when it appears. “AnyDesk showing an error” is not one diagnosis; the official FAQ separates fatal errors, setup failures and connection status messages.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  2. Close AnyDesk from the notification area, restart Windows and try the signed installation again. If the crash began after a copied or renamed executable appeared, stop and return to the verification workflow instead of replacing files blindly.

  3. Uninstall the intentional client from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, restart, and install a fresh copy from AnyDesk’s official Windows download page. The page currently displays Windows version 9.8.2 (October 2026 availability); confirm the version shown when you download because release availability can change.

  4. After reinstalling, repeat the signature check. A new installation should not be trusted merely because it came from a familiar-looking mirror, email attachment or support chat.

Outdated client or certificate warning

AnyDesk’s Windows changelog lists version 9.8.2 on October 15, 2026 and records security-vulnerability fixes as well as bug fixes. Update an older client after verifying its source. The older philandro Software GmbH signer can be legitimate, but it is a reason to update, not a reason to download an unverified replacement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Black or inaccessible administrator applications during a session

Windows User Account Control can require elevation when a remote user must interact with an administrative application. AnyDesk explains that elevation can make the protected window available, but it does not turn a standard Windows account into an administrator. The local user still needs appropriate administrator credentials and should approve a prompt only when the session and operator are trusted.

Windows blocks the executable immediately

Do not disable Defender or lower SmartScreen simply to launch the file. First inspect the signature and path, scan it, and obtain a clean installer from the official AnyDesk download page. If a legitimate signed client is blocked after an update, record the Defender detection name and exact path and consult the official FAQ or your administrator rather than adding a broad exclusion.

Reinstall AnyDesk without recreating the problem

  1. Remove the unwanted or damaged copy and its firewall rule as described above.

  2. Restart Windows and run a full Defender scan. Do not reinstall while a suspicious process is still active.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  3. Open AnyDesk’s official Windows download page directly, not a file-hosting mirror or an attachment. At the time covered here, that page showed version 9.8.2.

  4. After downloading, right-click the installer, open Properties and verify the Digital Signatures tab before running it.

  5. Install only if the signer is valid and the download was intentional. During first launch, review unattended-access and permission settings; enable only what your support arrangement requires.

  6. When Windows displays a firewall prompt, allow the verified client only on the network profiles and for the access pattern you actually need. Recheck the rule after installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to judge the result

A normal repair ends with a known path, a valid AnyDesk signature, an intentional installation source, no unexplained startup entry, no suspicious firewall rule and a clean full scan. A connection error after that point is usually a configuration or network problem and should be matched to the exact status message in AnyDesk’s FAQ. An unsigned copy, an unsolicited origin, a Defender detection or unexplained remote activity remains a security issue even if the program appears to work.

As an optional shortcut after the manual checks, Outbyte PC Repair can address more than 100 common Windows issues where possible, including broken system elements, invalid redirects and shared DLL files, while also checking settings, temporary and cache files, privacy warnings, missing updates and potentially unwanted apps. It complements antivirus software rather than replacing it; results vary and no tool repairs every crash. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7, with a free trial by category for at least two days before a paid subscription.

Key points to retain

  • The “(3)” suffix does not authenticate an executable and is not, by itself, evidence of malware.
  • Check the complete path, provenance and Digital Signatures tab before launching anydesk 3.exe.
  • AnyDesk Software GmbH is the current expected signer; philandro Software GmbH may identify an older legitimate client that should be updated.
  • An unexpected or unsigned copy should be quarantined or deleted, its firewall allowance removed and the device subjected to a full scan.
  • For a legitimate installation, correct the firewall rule, allow *.net.anydesk.com through an organizational filter when appropriate, update to the current official release and follow the exact error branch in AnyDesk’s FAQ.
