AASIapp.exe is an Adobe Account SignIn executable used by older Adobe applications. Adobe documentation places the historical, legitimate copy in C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAdobeOOBEPDAppP7. The filename alone does not prove that a copy is safe: check its location, Adobe Authenticode signature and, when applicable, the documented MD5 hash 030d5e286c9668e71da8ccfcfa8a7137. If the file is elsewhere, unsigned, altered or repeatedly causing errors, stop launching it and follow the verification, repair and malware-scan steps below.
What AASIapp.exe does
AASIapp.exe belongs to Adobe’s account sign-in and licensing components. It can appear when an older Adobe product needs to authenticate an account, validate a licence or communicate with Adobe’s desktop installation framework. Adobe’s technical documentation associates the executable with Adobe Captivate 2019 and 2017, Adobe Presenter Video Express 12, Adobe Presenter 11.1, Adobe FrameMaker and Adobe RoboHelp. The exact product that calls it depends on which Adobe software is installed.

Third-party file catalogues describe the product name as “Adobe Account SignIn,” identify Adobe Systems Incorporated as the publisher and list versioned copies beneath Adobe’s OOBEPDAppP7 directory. Those catalogue entries can help explain why the process exists, but they are not an integrity check and should not be used as a download source.

Is AASIapp.exe a virus?
Not necessarily. A copy installed as part of an Adobe product can be legitimate, but malware can use a familiar filename to appear trustworthy. Treat the path, signature and file contents as evidence rather than trusting the name shown in Task Manager.

Signs that support a legitimate Adobe copy
- The file is inside Adobe’s common-files directory:
C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAdobeOOBEPDAppP7. - File Properties shows a valid Adobe Authenticode digital signature. The signer should be Adobe, and Windows should report that the signature is valid.
- The file belongs to an Adobe application you knowingly installed and the process appears only when that application is starting or signing in.
- For the historical package documented by Adobe, the MD5 value is
030d5e286c9668e71da8ccfcfa8a7137.
Warnings that require investigation
- The executable is in
Downloads,%TEMP%, a user-profile folder or an unrelated application’s directory. - There is no Adobe signature, the signature is invalid or the signer is a different company.
- The file appeared after opening an unexpected attachment, installing pirated software or accepting a bundled installer.
- It launches at every sign-in even though no Adobe application is installed, consumes unusual resources or causes security alerts.
- Its hash differs from an Adobe-documented release and you have no explanation such as a different product version.
An unusual location does not by itself prove malware, because installations can be customized, but it is an integrity warning. Do not execute a replacement copied from a file mirror merely because the filename matches.
Where should AASIapp.exe be located?
For the historical Adobe package covered by the vendor documentation, the expected path is:
C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAdobeOOBEPDAppP7AASIapp.exe
The (x86) folder can be present even on 64-bit Windows because older Adobe components were built as 32-bit programs. A different Adobe installation directory, a newer component or a product installed on another drive may use another path. Therefore, location is a strong clue, not a universal whitelist.

How to verify the file before repairing anything
1. Record the running process and open its folder
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- On Processes or Details, find
AASIapp.exe. Right-click it and choose Open file location. - Copy the complete path into a note. If the process disappears, start the affected Adobe application and repeat the check.
- Do not double-click an unfamiliar copy while investigating it.
2. Check the Adobe digital signature
- In the file’s folder, right-click
AASIapp.exeand select Properties. - Open the Digital Signatures tab. Select the listed signature and choose Details.
- Windows should state that the digital signature is valid and identify Adobe as the signer. Use View Certificate to inspect the certificate details and validity period.
- If the tab is missing, the signature is invalid or the signer is not Adobe, do not replace or run the file until it has been scanned.
3. Compare the documented hash when it applies
Adobe published the MD5 value 030d5e286c9668e71da8ccfcfa8a7137 for the historical workaround package. A hash comparison is meaningful only when you are checking that same package; another Adobe release can legitimately have a different value.
- Open the folder containing the file.
- Click the address bar, type
cmdand press Enter. - Run
certutil -hashfile AASIapp.exe MD5. - Compare the returned 32-character value with Adobe’s documented value, ignoring letter case. If it differs, preserve the file for scanning rather than overwriting it with a copy from an unofficial website.
Why Adobe may report that your browser or operating system is no longer supported
Older Adobe sign-in components were built around browser and operating-system interfaces that have since changed. A legacy Captivate, Presenter, FrameMaker or RoboHelp installation can therefore display an “Update required – Your browser or operating system is no longer supported” message even when Windows itself is working normally. Historical Adobe forum discussions describe this symptom, but old forum links and attached downloads can become unsafe or unavailable.
The message does not establish that AASIapp.exe is malicious, and changing a browser-emulation setting does not establish that an executable is genuine. First bring the Adobe application to a supported release or reinstall it from Adobe’s current installer and support channel.

Manual fixes for AASIapp.exe errors
Fix 1: Restart and capture the exact error
Write down the complete message, the Adobe product and the action that triggers it. “The application was unable to start,” a missing-file message, a sign-in loop and a browser-support warning have different causes. Restart Windows once, then test the same action. If the error returns, continue without repeatedly launching the executable.

Fix 2: Update the affected Adobe application through Adobe
- Close every Adobe application, including background launchers shown in the notification area.
- Use the product’s built-in update command if it still opens, or obtain the current installer from Adobe’s official support or account channel.
- Install all available updates for the affected product and restart Windows.
- Test sign-in or licensing again. If the product is no longer supported, upgrading to a supported edition is safer than keeping a legacy workaround permanently.
Use the current Adobe distribution rather than a download site that republishes a standalone AASIapp.exe. A replacement executable without its matching Adobe components can create version conflicts or introduce tampered code.
Fix 3: Repair or reinstall the Adobe product
- Save project files and close Adobe processes.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (called Apps & features on some Windows versions).
- Select the affected Adobe application and choose Uninstall. If Adobe provides a repair option in its installer, use that before removing the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the current installer from Adobe, install it with an account that has administrator rights and apply updates before opening projects.
- Check the new executable’s path and signature again if the error persists.
Uninstalling an Adobe product can remove shared components used by other Adobe applications. Record the installed products first and reinstall any that stop working.
Fix 4: Apply the documented legacy workaround only when Adobe or your administrator requires it
Adobe’s historical workaround involves placing a specific AASIapp.exe package in C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAdobeOOBEPDAppP7. Use it only when an Adobe administrator or an Adobe-controlled support procedure explicitly directs you to do so.
- Close Adobe applications and create a restore point.
- Obtain the file only from an Adobe-controlled source associated with that documented procedure; never use a mirror or a file-sharing link.
- Verify the Adobe signature and, for the documented package, the MD5 value
030d5e286c9668e71da8ccfcfa8a7137. - Back up the existing file by renaming it, for example to
AASIapp.exe.backup, rather than deleting it immediately. - Copy the verified file into the specified
P7directory, approve the administrator prompt and restart Windows. - If the error changes or another Adobe product fails, restore the backup and use the supported installer instead.
Fix 5: Treat browser-emulation registry edits as a last-resort compatibility measure
Community discussions mention adding AASIapp.exe to Internet Explorer browser-emulation registry keys. This is a legacy compatibility technique, not a security fix. It changes how an old component identifies the browser and can affect other software.

- Use it only under Adobe or workplace IT guidance.
- Create a restore point and export the relevant registry key before editing.
- Confirm the exact key, value name and data for your Windows edition from that approved guidance; do not paste an unverified registry file.
- Remove the entry if it does not solve the documented Adobe error.
Never add an arbitrary executable to a registry compatibility list to make Windows trust it. Registry treatment cannot validate a signature or remove malware.
Fix 6: Install Windows updates and restart
Microsoft recommends keeping Windows, browsers and applications updated. Open Settings > Windows Update, install available security and quality updates, restart and retry the Adobe application. Updates can resolve compatibility failures, but they cannot make an unsigned or tampered AASIapp.exe trustworthy.
Fix 7: Scan an unexpected or altered copy
- Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection updates and choose Check for updates.
- Return to Virus & threat protection, choose Scan options, select Full scan and start it.
- If the process reloads, cannot be removed or appears before Windows finishes starting, select Microsoft Defender Offline scan. Save work first because Windows will restart.
- Quarantine or remove detections, uninstall unfamiliar software from Settings > Apps and restart.
- For a file that remains suspicious, use Microsoft’s submission process so its analysts can examine it. Do not upload confidential project files.
Microsoft defines malware as software that can steal data, launch attacks or commit other crimes, and potentially unwanted applications as software that may display unwanted advertising, cryptomine or install unexpected software. An alert is a reason to isolate and scan the file, not proof that every AASIapp.exe installation is malicious.

Common error patterns and what they mean
“AASIapp.exe is missing”
The Adobe installation may be incomplete, quarantined or damaged. Check Windows Security’s protection history, then repair or reinstall the affected Adobe product from Adobe. Do not download the missing file from a DLL or EXE catalogue.
“AASIapp.exe has stopped working” or an immediate crash
Confirm the signature and path, install Adobe and Windows updates, then perform a clean Adobe repair or reinstall. If only one legacy product crashes while newer Adobe applications work, compatibility with that product is more likely than a system-wide Windows failure.
Repeated sign-in prompts or an authentication loop
Close all Adobe processes, update the application and sign in again through the supported Adobe installer or account flow. A loop can result from obsolete sign-in components; replacing one executable without updating the surrounding OOBE files can leave the problem unresolved.
High CPU, memory or disk activity
First verify that the process is the signed Adobe file in the expected directory. If it is, close the calling Adobe application and update or repair it. If it is unsigned or located elsewhere, stop treating the activity as a normal Adobe workload and run the Defender scans described above.

What not to do
- Do not assume a familiar filename is safe.
- Do not disable Microsoft Defender or your other security software to force the process to run.
- Do not replace the executable with one from a search result, peer-to-peer service or file mirror.
- Do not delete shared Adobe files before recording which products are installed and creating a restore point.
- Do not make blind registry edits copied from an old forum post.
- Do not keep using a legacy Adobe build for sensitive work when Adobe offers a supported release.
When to escalate
Contact Adobe support or your organization’s administrator when the signed file is in the expected location but the current installer cannot repair it, when several Adobe products fail together, or when licensing is tied to a managed account. Contact your security team when Defender detects the file, the signature cannot be validated, the process returns after removal or other accounts show suspicious activity. Preserve the path, signature details, hash, exact error text and Defender result; those details are more useful than the filename alone.
