A fighting game demo is a limited version that lets you try selected modes or features before playing the full game. There is no industry-wide rule for what transfers: one demo may carry over nothing, while another may preserve only something specific, such as a created avatar’s appearance. Check the game’s official instructions for the exact data, platform and save conditions before counting on a transfer.
What a fighting game demo lets you try
A demo offers a restricted sample of a game. Its limits may apply to which modes or portions of modes are playable, whether online play is available, or how far you can progress. Those limits are separate from save transfer: a demo can have a substantial sample and still transfer no save data, or preserve a customization while discarding mode progress.

Example: TEKKEN 8
Bandai Namco’s TEKKEN 8 demo information describes portions of Story and Arcade Quest, alongside Super Ghost Battle, Versus and Gallery. Some content is partial, and online play is unavailable. The same page explicitly says that save data will not carry over to the full version.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat “carries over” can mean
Transfer policies apply to particular kinds of data, not necessarily everything a player does in a demo. A publisher might distinguish mode or story progress from a character’s appearance, creation data, unlocks, currency or settings. Read the exact wording rather than assuming that “progress” means all saved information—or that “no progress” means nothing is retained.

Example: Street Fighter 6
The Xbox Street Fighter 6 demo listing says the demo samples the beginning of World Tour and some Fighting Ground modes. It also says World Tour progress is not saved. Separately, it says the avatar’s appearance is saved and available in the full game when the demo and full game are played on the same platform. So mode progress and avatar appearance have different outcomes.
What conditions can affect a transfer
When a game does support importing demo data, the process and eligibility rules are title-specific. Square Enix support articles for other games illustrate possible conditions; they are not instructions for TEKKEN 8 or Street Fighter 6.

- The redefined 6-button gamepad with wireless connectivity. Perfect for all SEGA’s classic Games.
- Compatible with Switch, Windows 10 or above, Android and Raspberry Pi.
- Turbo Function (unavailable on Switch).
- Bluetooth and rechargeable battery.
- Upgradeable firmware.
- Demo save on the device: the demo data may need to remain present for the full game to detect it.
- Platform or account: transfer may require the same platform or its corresponding first-party account.
- Existing full-game save: a full-game save may affect whether an import prompt appears or whether importing is possible.
- Progression limits: data earned beyond a demo’s progression cap may not be stored.
- How importing starts: a game may detect a save automatically, show a one-time prompt, or provide a menu option.
These variations are described in Square Enix’s support pages on transferring progress from a demo to a full game and transferring demo save data to a full game. One example notes that an import prompt may not appear if full-game save data already exists; another discusses deleting full-game save data before trying again. Do not delete a save based on those examples: first follow the specific game’s official instructions, since deletion may remove data you want to keep.

How to check before you start
- Open the game’s official demo FAQ, store listing or publisher support page.
- Identify exactly which data is covered: mode or story progress, character creation or appearance, unlocks, currency, settings, or something else.
- Check any stated requirements for platform, account, regional version, demo save availability or an existing full-game save.
- Look for how and when the transfer happens: automatic detection, an import menu, or a prompt that may appear only once.
- Check demo limits separately, including partial modes, online access and progression caps.
If the official page does not clearly say that a particular kind of data transfers, treat it as unconfirmed rather than assuming it will carry over.
