These are separate kinds of exposure: the sources reviewed do not establish that your Meta AI chats are shown to Marketplace buyers. Meta says its AI training uses information from public online sources, licensed sources, and Meta products and services, while a Marketplace feature announced in March 2026 gives buyers a seller overview that can include account tenure, friend count, and Marketplace activity.
Meta AI and Marketplace expose different kinds of information
“Reveal” can mean information you intentionally show to another person, information you give an AI system to answer a prompt, or information Meta says it may use in its services. Those routes should not be treated as one shared audience or one privacy setting.

Meta’s U.S. Regional Privacy Notice, effective May 23, 2025, supplements its Privacy Policy and applies to the United States. It says collection and use depend on how a person interacts with Meta products. Its described categories include information people provide, product use and interactions, device details, information other people provide about a person, information from Meta companies and third parties, and categories such as identifiers, photos and videos, online activity, location-related information, professional information, and inferred interests. This is Meta’s notice of its practices, not an independent audit. Read Meta’s U.S. Regional Privacy Notice.
What Meta AI can learn from what you enter
Prompts and recent conversation history
Meta’s text AI system card says a prompt is passed to a language model to generate a response, and recent conversation history may help the model understand the current prompt. In practical terms, do not put sensitive details into a conversation unless you are comfortable sharing them with the AI service. A follow-up can also be interpreted in light of what you said earlier in that conversation. Meta’s text AI system card.

Training inputs are not the same question as an individual chat
Meta says AI training draws on publicly available online information, licensed information, and information from Meta products and services. It also says that when personal information is included in public or licensed sources, it does not specifically link that information to a Meta account when using it for training. That is Meta’s description of its process; it should not be read as an independently verified audit or as a guarantee about how every particular conversation is handled.
The system card’s account of training sources does not, by itself, establish that every prompt is used for training. Nor does it establish that conversations are never retained or used to improve services. The applicable product and its current settings matter, so check the controls and privacy information for the Meta AI experience you use.

History reset commands have a limited stated effect
Meta documents /reset-ai as deleting one AI’s copy of chat history and /reset-all-ais as deleting all AIs’ copies of chat history across Meta AIs. These are described as conversation-history controls. The cited documentation does not say they undo prior model training, erase all data associated with an account, or remove information already incorporated into model parameters.
Images, voice, and other multimodal inputs
For the multimodal AI experience documented by Meta, users can view and download information provided to an AI system and manage privacy settings; Meta also describes deleting gallery media from its cloud for that documented experience. The details may not apply identically across every Meta AI product or interface, so consult the controls in the version you are using. Meta’s multimodal AI system card.

What Marketplace buyers may see about a seller
Seller overview and Marketplace activity
In a March 12, 2026 announcement, Meta said buyers would see an overview at the top of a seller’s Marketplace profile, including how long that person has been on Facebook and their number of friends, alongside a brief summary of Marketplace activity such as listing history, types of items sold, and seller ratings. Meta’s wording describes a feature it announced; availability can vary as it rolls out across markets and accounts. The announcement does not establish that every buyer sees these fields everywhere.
Meta also reported that more than 3.5 million Marketplace listings were posted each day in the United States and Canada. That is a company-reported figure for those two countries, not an independent measurement. Meta’s March 12, 2026 Marketplace announcement.

Listings and messages can disclose more than profile fields
A listing can reveal details through its text and images, including the item, condition, price, availability, and pickup arrangements. Location or pickup information may be particularly revealing if it identifies a regular routine or a precise place. Meta says its AI can draft availability replies using listing information such as description, availability, pickup location, and price; consider that when deciding what details to include in a listing.
Meta’s original 2016 Marketplace launch announcement described listing details that included a product description, seller name, profile photo, and general location. That is historical documentation, not a guarantee that the current interface displays the same fields for every user or region. Meta’s 2016 Marketplace launch announcement.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Facebook privacy settings do not hide every Marketplace detail
Facebook post audiences, tag controls, and timeline review help manage posts and profile presentation. They are not universal controls for Marketplace listings or the seller information Meta displays to buyers. Meta’s Safety Center explains post-audience choices and tagging; it also notes that when content is posted on someone else’s profile, that person controls its audience, and tagged people and their friends may be able to see content in some circumstances. Meta Safety Center privacy guidance.
You can set an audience for your friends list, but that does not necessarily make all friendship connections undiscoverable: mutual friends or friendships visible on another person’s profile may still provide clues. Facebook Help Center describes the Friends section as public by default and explains the audience setting and these residual visibility cases. Facebook Help Center: who can see your friends list.

Quick Recap
Practical checks before using either service
Before asking Meta AI
- Leave out passwords, payment details, private identifiers, and information about another person that you do not need to share.
- Check the privacy and information controls in the specific Meta AI product, rather than assuming controls are identical across apps or devices.
- Use
/reset-aior/reset-all-aisonly with the understanding that Meta documents them as chat-history-copy controls, not as a universal deletion or training reversal. - For a multimodal experience, check whether you can view or download information provided to the AI and manage or delete associated media in that product.
Before publishing a Marketplace listing
- Review every photo and line of text for addresses, documents, faces, reflections, workplace or school identifiers, and location clues you did not intend to share.
- Include only the location and pickup detail needed to arrange the transaction; avoid publishing a home address in the listing.
- Consider the seller overview announced by Meta: account tenure, friend count, listing history, item types, and ratings may be buyer-facing where the feature is available.
- Review your Facebook post audience, tagging and timeline settings, and friends-list audience as separate controls; none should be assumed to conceal all Marketplace information.
- Where practical, inspect your seller profile and listing as a buyer would, while remembering that the displayed fields can vary with rollout and region.
