Safedisk used G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB memory, an ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Apex motherboard, an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor and liquid-nitrogen (LN2) cooling. It was a manufacturer-reported HWBOT and CPU-Z submission, not a normal desktop operating result—and later records have surpassed it.
The DDR5-12112 record attempt at a glance
| Component or condition | Details reported by G.SKILL |
|---|---|
| Memory | G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB DDR5 |
| Motherboard | ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Apex |
| Processor | Intel Core Ultra 9 285K desktop CPU |
| Cooling | Liquid nitrogen (LN2) |
| Overclocker | Safedisk |
| Announcement date | 29 October 2024 |
| Reported validation | HWBOT and CPU-Z entries linked from the manufacturer announcement |
DDR5-12112 is the headline effective data-rate figure used in the announcement. It describes a heavily tuned benchmark configuration, not the speed that every module in the retail Trident Z5 RGB range can reach.

How the run was validated
G.SKILL said Safedisk submitted the result to HWBOT and provided CPU-Z validation. Those are the manufacturer’s reported validation references; the linked validator pages were not independently inspected for this article. That distinction matters because an announcement confirms what the company says was submitted, while the validator entry contains the underlying evidence and configuration details.

Why LN2 changes the meaning of the number
Liquid nitrogen removes heat far more aggressively than a conventional air cooler or water loop, allowing a processor and memory subsystem to operate briefly at settings intended for record attempts. The DDR5-12112 run therefore demonstrates the overclocking headroom of a carefully selected platform under specialist conditions. It does not promise stable, everyday operation at DDR5-12112 in a standard case.
#1 Best Overall
- Requires overclocking/BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depends on system components, including motherboard and CPU.
- G.SKILL Flare X5 Series DDR5 U-DIMM Memory Kit, Model: F5-6000J3636F16GX2-FX5
- Non-ECC, DDR5 U-DIMM, 288-pin, for Desktop PC & Gaming
- Includes JEDEC default profile, and AMD EXPO & Intel XMP 3.0 memory overclock profile
- Do not mix memory kits. Memory kits are sold in matched kits that are designed to run together as a set. Mixing memory kits will result in stability issues or system failure.
- LN2 requires insulated hardware, a controlled environment and continuous temperature management.
- Extreme-voltage and frequency settings can damage components or cause immediate instability.
- Retail memory kits are normally rated for a much lower specification than an event or record frequency.
DDR5 frequency records moved on
DDR5-12112 was a 2024 milestone, not the current record. Subsequent manufacturer announcements report higher results under their own test conditions.
| Result | Date and submitter | Platform and memory | Cooling | Attribution |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DDR5-12112 | October 2024, Safedisk | Trident Z5 RGB; ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Apex; Intel Core Ultra 9 285K | LN2 | G.SKILL announcement |
| DDR5-12772 | April 2025, Seby | Trident Z5; ASUS Z890 Apex; Intel Core Ultra 9 285K | LN2 | G.SKILL announcement |
| DDR5-13322 | November 2025, CENS | One 24GB Trident Z5 module; ASUS Z890 Apex; Intel Core Ultra 9 285K | LN2 | G.SKILL announcement |
| DDR5-13556 MT/s | 8 June 2026, GIGABYTE report | CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5; Z890 AORUS TACHYON DUO X ICE | Not stated in the cited report | GIGABYTE report |
On the dated manufacturer reports available here, GIGABYTE’s DDR5-13556 MT/s result is the latest figure, so DDR5-12112 should be described as a former record rather than today’s leader. Record rankings can change and should be rechecked against the relevant validator or a newer official announcement.

Why cooling conditions make simple comparisons misleading
A larger number is not automatically a like-for-like improvement. The later DDR5-13322 result used a single 24GB module and LN2. By contrast, G.SKILL’s January 2025 announcement described DDR5-12050 and DDR5-12054 memory runs using air-cooled memory, with the CPUs on water cooling. Both came from one module of a Trident Z5 DDR5-8000 CL38 2x48GB kit. Different module counts, processors, boards and cooling methods can materially change the achievable result.
For a meaningful comparison, pair every score with its date, submitter, module configuration, memory product, CPU, motherboard and cooling method instead of ranking headline numbers alone.

What this means for someone buying DDR5 memory
It is evidence of platform headroom, not a purchase guarantee
The named Trident Z5 RGB kit was part of a record platform selected and tuned for extreme overclocking. A retail kit’s advertised profile, motherboard support and memory-controller quality determine practical operation; the DDR5-12112 figure does not turn a normal kit into a plug-and-play 12,112-speed upgrade.
Use the rated profile first
For a daily system, enable the memory profile supported by the kit and motherboard, verify stability, and treat manual frequency or voltage increases as experimental. LN2 record procedures belong to specialist overclocking work, not ordinary desktop setup.

Bottom line on the 2024 milestone
G.SKILL and ASUS’s DDR5-12112 result was a genuine 2024 extreme-overclocking milestone built around Trident Z5 RGB, the ROG Maximus Z890 Apex and Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K under LN2. It has since been overtaken by higher manufacturer-reported figures, including GIGABYTE’s DDR5-13556 MT/s report from June 2026.
