Canceling Game Pass or changing plans ends or changes your subscription access—not ownership of games you bought separately. Xbox says subscribers can access games in the library until the subscription is canceled or expires, or a game leaves the library. A downloaded Game Pass game is therefore not yours to keep playing indefinitely just because its files are installed.
Will I lose my games if I cancel Game Pass?
You lose the subscription entitlement to Game Pass titles when your subscription is canceled or expires, according to Xbox’s US Game Pass FAQ. Access can also end earlier if a title leaves the catalog, even if your subscription is still active. Xbox notes that catalog titles and availability vary over time, region, plan, and platform.

Cancellation does not mean you own none of your Xbox games. Games you purchased separately remain separate from the Game Pass catalog; the issue applies to games you were accessing through the subscription.
Do I keep downloaded Game Pass games?
A download is an installation, not a permanent license. When subscription access ends, the game may still appear installed, but the subscription no longer gives you the right to play it. Xbox’s FAQ explains when access ends; it does not promise that installed files will be retained or automatically deleted. If you want to keep playing a particular title after access ends, buy that game separately, where a compatible physical edition is available, or purchase it digitally.

- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
What if a game leaves Game Pass before I cancel?
Leaving the catalog can end Game Pass access while your subscription remains active. Check the current library and its leaving-soon notices for the titles you play. If you want ongoing access to a departing game, you will need to own it separately; check the edition and platform compatibility before buying.
What changes if I switch Game Pass plans?
Plans do not all include the same library or benefits. Xbox currently describes Ultimate, Premium, Essential, and PC Game Pass, with features that vary by plan. Before switching, confirm that the game you want and any benefits you rely on—such as cloud gaming, multiplayer, or partner benefits—are included in the plan available in your market.

How do I stop the next Game Pass renewal?
Xbox says you can manage the subscription through your Microsoft account or console. Use the account or console subscription controls to turn off recurring billing, and check the account page for the current renewal date and status. The available support information does not establish a universal post-cancellation access date; rely on the timing and terms shown for your account rather than assuming access ends immediately or continues through a particular date.

Xbox’s FAQ describes a possible refund of the most recent recurring charge if cancellation is within 30 days after payment. It is limited to once per Microsoft account per subscription product, so it is not an automatic or universal refund.

Will I lose my Xbox saves?
Save data is a separate question from Game Pass access. Xbox’s accessible FAQ does not specify a post-cancellation save-retention period, so there is no basis here to promise that saves will remain available indefinitely. If a save matters, confirm the game has synced and consult current Xbox Support before changing your subscription or losing access to the game.

No: the announced monthly hour limits concern cloud gaming, not the amount of time you can play a downloaded game you are otherwise entitled to access. In an announcement dated September 3, 2026, Xbox said that plans scheduled to take effect in November 2026 would include 15 monthly cloud gaming hours on Ultimate, 10 on Premium, and 5 on Essential. Xbox said it expected the change to affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers. The announcement said additional-hour pricing and availability were still to be detailed, so check Xbox’s current terms for updates.
