An app integration does not automatically mean a shutdown, and it does not guarantee that every watchlist, profile, or download will move. A transfer usually requires a provider-supported feature and an eligible account or profile. Downloads are separate: they generally remain tied to the service’s app, device, plan, and account access.
Before a change, check the provider’s notice for your country: does your old subscription continue, do you need to link or transfer a profile, which data moves, and what happens to billing and downloads?

Will I lose my watchlist if a streaming service changes?
Not necessarily, but there is no universal migration rule. A provider may keep the service running while adding its catalog to another app, offer a feature to link selected profiles, or let a member transfer a profile to another account. A catalog or app change alone does not establish that your watchlist will transfer.
Even when a list is included, it may be partial or one-way. Titles unavailable in the destination service may not appear, capacity limits may apply, and changes you make in the new app may not sync back.

Hulu and Disney+: a dated US example
In a US help article dated May 19, 2026, Hulu said Hulu and Hulu Premium subscriptions would continue while further integration of Hulu into Disney+ was planned for later in 2026. The provider said eligible subscribers could link a Hulu profile, with watch history and My Stuff appearing in specified Disney+ areas. Some Hulu content is unavailable in Disney+, and Disney+ Watchlist capacity may limit what appears. Treat this as a dated provider statement, not a guarantee that every account has the feature or that rollout timing remains unchanged. See Hulu’s integration notice.
Disney+’s US instructions dated May 19, 2026 say most Hulu watch history appears in Disney+ Continue Watching and Hulu My Stuff items appear in Disney+ Watchlist. Linking is one-way: activity in Disney+ does not carry back to Hulu. The instructions exclude Live TV plans, Disney+/Hulu/Max bundle subscribers, and Hulu add-on subscribers at that time. The Hulu linking help page also excludes Kids profiles and profiles for people under 18. Feature availability may not appear immediately for every otherwise eligible account. Will my profiles and watch history move to the new app?
Only if the provider offers a supported linking or transfer feature and your account meets its conditions. “Linking” a profile between services is not the same as transferring a profile to a separate account, and neither necessarily moves the subscription or billing.
Netflix Profile Transfer
Netflix’s guidance describes transferring a profile to a new or existing account, or moving it to an Extra Member slot, subject to eligibility conditions. Data can include the profile name and icon, recommendations, viewing history, My List, game saves, and settings. Payment information is not included.

Transferring to a new or existing account copies the profile; it can later be removed from the original account. Moving it to an Extra Member slot removes it from the original. The primary profile cannot be moved to an Extra Member slot, and that move must be completed during the purchase process. Netflix’s cited help guidance is in Dutch, so check the current local-language instructions and eligibility for your country before acting: Netflix Profile Transfer help.
Netflix Product Manager Timi Kosztin described the feature in an October 17, 2022 announcement as a way to carry personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and settings when someone starts their own membership. The announcement was updated July 11, 2023 to note support for transfer to an existing account: Netflix’s Profile Transfer announcement.

What happens to my downloads if I cancel or switch plans?
Do not treat streaming downloads as permanent video files that can be carried to another service. Provider instructions describe downloads as in-app access associated with the account and device, subject to plan eligibility, licensing, and time limits.

Netflix
Netflix says downloads are tied to the device and require you to remain signed in; titles may expire or be limited by licensing. Canceling your Netflix account deletes device downloads. If you restart membership, Netflix says you must download them again. If a title has left Netflix, an existing download cannot be renewed or downloaded again after it expires. Disney+
Disney+’s US download help, dated June 4, 2026, says downloads are available on supported mobile devices with eligible plans. An active subscription and an internet connection at least once every 30 days are required. Some downloads are time-limited, and some titles cannot be downloaded. Logging out removes downloaded content from the device. Disney+ troubleshooting guidance says canceling or switching to a plan that does not support downloads ends access; it also describes a 30-day offline availability period unless a title leaves the library sooner. Does a profile transfer move my subscription or billing?
No: profile data and subscription billing are separate. Netflix explicitly excludes payment information from the profile data it lists for transfer. The Hulu and Disney+ integration information cited above addresses profile linking, not a universal transfer of billing details. Check the provider’s plan and billing notice to find out whether you must cancel, sign up separately, change a bundle, or take another action; do not infer a billing change from a profile transfer.
What should I check before the service changes?
Use the service’s own notice and account-specific help page. Confirm these details before an announced deadline or account change:
- Date and geography: Identify when the change applies and whether the notice covers your country or region.
- What is changing: Determine whether the old app or subscription is ending, continuing, or being integrated into another app.
- Transfer method: Check whether linking or profile transfer is automatic or requires an action, and whether the feature is available to your account now.
- Eligibility: Verify plan, bundle, profile type, age, and other account restrictions.
- Data fields and direction: Find out whether watch history, lists, recommendations, settings, or game saves transfer, whether the result is partial, and whether syncing works both ways.
- Copy or move: Check whether the original profile remains, is copied, or is removed.
- Billing and downloads: Read the specific rules for payment, plan access, downloaded titles, device limits, and expiration.
- Deadline: Note any date by which you must link, transfer, or make a choice.
Do not assume there is a universal export or backup option. Use only a transfer method the provider supports, and recheck its official instructions because interfaces and eligibility rules can change.
