The unpaid device balance may continue in installments if you keep qualifying Xfinity Internet, TV, or Voice service. If you cancel all Xfinity services, Xfinity says the remaining balance is due on your final Xfinity Mobile bill. Your exact amount depends on the promotion, purchase date, device balance, and other services on the account.
The short answer: credits end, and the phone balance remains
Xfinity treats a promotional credit and your phone’s installment obligation as separate items. A promotion may reduce each monthly device-payment charge, but it does not reduce the contractual balance that remains if the credits stop.

- Cancel the promoted line: monthly device credits for that line stop, whether the cancellation is voluntary or caused by an involuntary disconnect.
- Keep the device installment plan: the unpaid balance is still yours. Depending on the Xfinity services you retain, you may either keep making monthly payments or have the balance charged on the final bill.
- Pay the phone off early: additional payments that satisfy the device balance also end eligibility for future promotional credits.
Because offers and contracts differ, there is no single “early-cancellation fee” or universal final amount. Check the line’s bill details and the terms attached to the specific order before you disconnect anything.
What appears on your bill before you cancel
Open your Xfinity Mobile bill or account and separate the figures that are often confused:

- the device payment-plan balance;
- the number of device payments left;
- the promotion’s monthly credit amount;
- the number of promotional credits remaining; and
- the promotion’s scheduled end date.
These entries show how much of the phone is unpaid and how much discount you would have received by staying. A credit is not a refund of money already paid, and “credits remaining” is not the same as the device balance. Save a copy of the bill and the offer terms so you can compare the final bill with the pre-cancellation figures.
Your outcome depends on which services you keep

Do not assume that canceling a mobile line always accelerates the entire device balance immediately. Xfinity’s published guidance makes continued installments conditional on retaining Xfinity Internet, TV, or Voice, and makes the balance due on the final mobile bill when all Xfinity services are canceled.
Promotion type and purchase date can change the result
Monthly device-credit offers
For an ordinary monthly device-credit offer, canceling the associated line ends future credits. The installment agreement and the offer terms tied to your order control the exact treatment of the remaining balance. The older installment agreement for orders before December 3, 2025 states that credits can stop after early prepayment, cancellation of the associated line, failure to activate or transfer within 30 days, or involuntary disconnection.

Orders after December 3, 2025
Xfinity’s policy index lists a separate device-payment-plan agreement for orders after December 3, 2025. Do not apply a clause from the older agreement automatically to a newer purchase. Use the agreement displayed in your account, order paperwork, or promotion disclosure for the device’s purchase date.

Trade-in and Mobile Plus promotions
Trade-in promotions have their own rules and should not be generalized to every device offer. The terms identified for orders after April 22, 2026 use a 36-month promotional-credit period for the covered Xfinity Mobile and Mobile Plus offers. They require continuous Xfinity Mobile service and maintenance of the new device-payment schedule to receive the maximum credit.
Those terms also describe a specific early-cancellation settlement: if service ends before the minimum credit amount is reached, the customer receives a check for the minimum amount minus credits already received. The minimum amount, eligibility requirements, and offer amount vary by promotion. This provision is not a promise that every trade-in or device-credit offer will pay a check after cancellation.
What happens if you cancel only the mobile line?
When the promoted line is disconnected, its monthly credits stop. You remain responsible for the unpaid device balance under the applicable installment agreement. If another qualifying Xfinity service remains, Xfinity’s cancellation instructions allow continued monthly device payments. If no qualifying service remains, the balance is handled with the final mobile bill.

For an Unlimited line, Xfinity says data charges are split according to the portion of the billing cycle that has elapsed when the line is canceled. By the Gig charges are not split, so a cancellation partway through the cycle does not create the same usage proration.

What happens if you cancel Internet but keep Xfinity Mobile?
Dropping Internet is not the same event as canceling Mobile. Your line can remain active, but the account may lose a bundle discount or become subject to a standalone mobile charge.

Xfinity Internet, TV, and Voice can qualify to avoid the older standalone fees. Xfinity Home does not qualify for that purpose. Check your plan’s enrollment date and current plan version; the same service change can produce different charges on different account vintages.
How to leave without losing your phone number
If you are switching carriers, port the number instead of canceling the Xfinity line first. Xfinity says a completed transfer from the new provider automatically cancels that line, while canceling manually first can stop the transfer.

- Read the offer-specific terms: identify whether the deal is a monthly device credit, trade-in offer, Mobile Plus offer, or another promotion. Match the terms to the device purchase date, especially whether it was before or after December 3, 2025 and whether a trade-in offer applies after April 22, 2026.
- Ask the new carrier to start the number transfer: provide the account information and transfer credentials it requests. Keep the Xfinity line active until the transfer completes.
- Confirm device eligibility: ask Xfinity what it requires to unlock the phone. Xfinity’s cancellation guidance presents paying off the device and then contacting Xfinity to unlock it as one option; eligibility can depend on the account and agreement.
- Wait for completion: verify that calls, texts, and data work on the new service before removing the old line or changing account services.
- Review the final Xfinity bill: check the disconnect date, device balance, any prorated Unlimited charge, standalone-fee or discount change, and automatic-payment date.
If you want to keep making device payments, confirm that qualifying Xfinity Internet, TV, or Voice service will remain after the port. A number transfer ends the mobile line, but it does not by itself cancel every other Xfinity product.

How the final bill is timed
Xfinity says the final bill is made available online on your normal billing date. It identifies the disconnect date and final balance and shows the payment method and automatic-payment date when automatic payments are enabled. The final statement may therefore arrive on the usual billing schedule rather than on the day the transfer completes.
Do not disable automatic payment until you know whether the final bill includes a device payoff or other amount. If you have scheduled a payment, compare the payment date with the final balance and retain confirmation of any separate payment you make.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming the phone becomes free after the credits stop
Credits reduce a monthly charge; they do not forgive the unpaid principal. Check the device-plan balance before cancellation.
Paying off the phone to preserve the promotion
Early payoff can itself end eligibility for future credits. Ask for the payoff amount and read the offer terms before making an extra payment.
Canceling Xfinity before porting the number
Manual cancellation can stop a transfer in progress. Start with the new provider and leave the line active until the transfer is complete.
Applying a trade-in rule to another offer
The 36-month period and minimum-credit check described for qualifying post-April 22, 2026 trade-in terms do not establish the result for every promotion. Use the terms attached to your order.
Ignoring bundle pricing
Removing Internet can add a standalone fee or remove a $10 discount even when Mobile remains active. Price the account after the service change, not just the device payoff.

A practical decision checklist
- Have you written down the device balance, payments left, credits left, and promotion end date?
- Do you know the offer type and the device purchase-date agreement that governs it?
- Will Xfinity Internet, TV, or Voice remain after the change?
- Will losing Internet remove a $10 discount or add a $25 standalone fee under your plan vintage?
- Are you porting the number, and have you kept the Xfinity line active until transfer completion?
- Have you confirmed the phone-unlock and payoff requirements?
- Have you checked Unlimited-data proration, By the Gig treatment, the final-bill date, and automatic payment?
What you can calculate—and what you cannot—without account access
You can estimate the value of credits you would forfeit by multiplying the remaining monthly credit by the number of eligible months, but that is not the final amount owed. The final bill also depends on the device balance, any required payoff, plan charges through the disconnect date, bundle-price changes, and the promotion’s own settlement rules. Xfinity’s published information does not provide a universal payoff figure, so only your account and order documents can establish the exact total.
