Your OneDrive files are not automatically deleted when the iPhone app is no longer supported. Files in your cloud account remain separate from the app on your phone. You can access OneDrive in a supported web browser, but Microsoft does not specify how long an already-installed app will keep launching, syncing, or accepting sign-ins after the iPhone’s iOS version falls below the app’s minimum.
Will I lose my OneDrive files if the app is no longer supported?
No—not simply because the app or iOS version is unsupported. A support cutoff affects whether you can use the app; it is different from deleting files stored in your OneDrive account. Microsoft describes file deletion as a separate action in OneDrive, not an automatic result of falling below the iOS requirement. Microsoft’s system requirements state that OneDrive for iOS requires iOS 18.0 or later. That page was last updated June 23, 2026.

Microsoft does not publish a schedule or precise behavior for an older, already-installed app once its iOS version is below the minimum. It does not promise that the app will continue to open, sync changes, or let you sign in indefinitely. Its guidance says that on an iOS version below the minimum, you may only be able to update the app.

Can I still access OneDrive without the iPhone app?
Yes. Microsoft documents access through a web browser as an alternative to using an app. Open OneDrive on the web in a supported, current browser such as Safari, Edge, Chrome, or Firefox, then sign in to the Microsoft account that holds your files. This is a documented access option, not a guarantee that every app feature works identically in a browser. Microsoft’s guide to OneDrive apps and access says, “You can always access your OneDrive from a web browser, or you can use an app.”

What happens to OneDrive files saved offline?
Offline or saved files are device copies intended for use without an internet connection; they are distinct from the files stored in your OneDrive account. Microsoft says these offline or saved files remain on the device after you sign out of OneDrive. It also says offline edits sync the next time the device connects to the internet. Until that reconnection and sync happen, do not assume an offline change is reflected in the cloud.

Prepare files you may need without internet
- While the app still works, mark the individual files you need as available offline.
- Check that each file has downloaded before you lose reliable access to the app or a network connection.
- Reconnect to the internet later so any offline edits can sync to OneDrive.
On iOS, making an entire folder available offline is limited to Premium OneDrive with a Microsoft 365 subscription, according to Microsoft’s OneDrive iOS offline guidance. This folder feature is not a requirement for browser access or for keeping files in the cloud.

Does deleting the OneDrive app delete my files?
Removing the app or signing out is not the same as deleting files from OneDrive. Microsoft says removing an account does not lose files or folders and that they remain available on the web after sign-out. Its guidance also says offline or saved copies remain on the device after sign-out. Apple’s iPhone storage guidance describes Offload App as removing an app while keeping its documents and data; that description should not be treated as a guarantee about every removal method or every offline cache.

Deleting a file inside OneDrive is different: Microsoft says deleted files go to the OneDrive recycle bin and may be restored from there. Deleting items from the recycle bin removes them permanently. Avoid using a cloud-file Delete command as a way to troubleshoot an unsupported app. See Microsoft’s OneDrive deletion and recovery instructions.

- Check that you can sign in to OneDrive on the web and see the files you need.
- Make critical files available offline in the app while it is still usable, and verify they downloaded.
- Reconnect the phone so offline edits have an opportunity to sync.
- Use account removal or app-removal options only when intended; do not confuse them with deleting cloud files.
If the app is already having trouble, Microsoft provides iOS troubleshooting steps for resetting or reinstalling OneDrive. These steps address app problems; they do not change the distinction between the cloud account and local offline copies. Review Microsoft’s mobile troubleshooting guidance before trying them.
