Starlink service does not have one automatic outcome when a provider loses local approval. If Starlink or its local operating company loses an authorization required to provide service, a regulator may order it to stop, and Starlink’s country-specific terms may allow suspension or termination. If only a reseller loses its appointment, that reseller may no longer be allowed to sell or support service—but the available official sources do not establish that every existing customer is automatically disconnected.
First identify who lost approval—and which approval
“Provider” can mean Starlink itself, a local Starlink operating company, or a distributor or reseller. The approval at issue can also differ: a network or service-operating license, permission to sell as a distributor, equipment approval, or eligibility for a particular class of user. Losing one does not by itself prove that all the others have been revoked.

Read the regulator’s notice closely. Its effective date, geographic scope, covered services, and instructions determine whether the action stops service, bars new subscriptions, restricts a particular user group, or applies only to an intermediary. Your contract matters too: an account held directly with Starlink is not necessarily treated the same way as a service purchased under a reseller’s contract.

Service could be suspended or terminated, especially if a regulator directs Starlink to stop providing it. Starlink’s consumer terms surfaced for Ecuador say the company may suspend or terminate some or all account access if required government authorizations are not obtained or maintained. That is an Ecuador-specific terms example, not a universal promise about every account; check the terms that apply to your account’s country. Starlink Terms of Service

A regulator can also take direct action. On November 30, 2021, India’s Ministry of Communications said Starlink had not obtained the required authorization for services being booked, directed it to refrain from booking or rendering service “with immediate effect,” and advised the public not to subscribe to the advertised service. This illustrates the potential effect of a government order; it does not establish India’s current authorization or service status. Ministry of Communications, Government of India
If only a reseller or distributor loses approval
The reseller may no longer be permitted to sell, activate, install, or support Starlink service locally. Whether existing customers can keep service, move to a direct Starlink account, or receive a refund is not settled by the reseller’s loss of appointment alone. The sources do not establish a global rule requiring automatic disconnection or account transfer.

For example, Lebanon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority says a company may sell, market, distribute, activate, install, or otherwise provide Starlink services or equipment only if formally appointed by Starlink and compliant with Lebanese requirements. The TRA names Alfa as the official distributor under its current framework. These are Lebanon-specific rules, not a global reseller policy. Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Lebanon FAQ
Local rules may restrict users and equipment separately
Even where a provider or distributor is authorized, local rules can determine who may subscribe and which terminals may be used. Lebanon’s TRA FAQ, last modified September 23, 2026, says residential and individual subscriptions are not authorized under the current framework and tourist or visitor roaming is not permitted. It also addresses equipment approval and private terminal importation. Those restrictions apply to Lebanon and should not be generalized to other countries. - Identify the named entity. Check whether the notice concerns Starlink or its local operating company, or only a reseller or distributor.
- Read the regulator’s action. Note its effective date, location, services and users covered, and whether it orders a shutdown, bars new sales, or gives a transition period.
- Check your account and contract. Review the Starlink terms for your country and any direct message in your account or email. If you bought through a reseller, check that agreement as well.
- Ask Starlink support about your specific account. Confirm whether it remains active, whether a transfer is available, and how billing or refunds will be handled. Do not assume a transfer, refund, or grace period unless the applicable notice or terms provide for it.
- Do not treat hardware or roaming as a workaround. A Starlink kit is physical equipment; it does not preserve service where service is unauthorized or unavailable. Roaming or using an imported terminal may also violate local restrictions.
What is not established globally
There is no official statistic in the cited material showing how many customers are disconnected after a provider loses local approval. Nor do the sources establish a worldwide rule for automatic cancellation, continued service through a reseller change, direct-account transfer, refunds, or a grace period. Those outcomes depend on the country’s rules, the exact authorization and regulatory action, the applicable Starlink terms, and the customer’s contract.
