The Switch 2 edition of Minecraft launches October 27, 2026, but Minecraft has not published a Switch-to-Switch 2 procedure confirming how existing DLC, Marketplace purchases, or locally saved worlds move over. Keep the same Microsoft account linked for Bedrock Marketplace purchases, but do not assume every entitlement or world will appear automatically. The digital-game upgrade offer is separate from those unresolved transfer details.
What the Switch 2 upgrade offer includes
Minecraft’s October 7, 2026 pre-order announcement says the Switch 2 edition launches October 27. If you own the digital Nintendo Switch version, you can obtain the digital Standard Edition upgrade through Nintendo eShop for free in most territories through the end of January 2027. The stated exceptions are Japan, where it costs 100 JPY, and Taiwan, where it costs 30 NTD. The offer is for owners of the digital Switch game; the announcement does not extend it to physical-game owners. Discounted digital upgrades to Deluxe Collection and Ultimate Collection are also offered through Nintendo eShop, but prices for every territory are not stated.

The announcement confirms digital Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions, as well as a physical retail edition. All three digital editions include the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. Their additional announced inclusions are:

Will existing DLC and Marketplace purchases transfer?
As of October 9, 2026, Minecraft’s Switch 2 announcements describe the game upgrade and editions but do not specify what happens to existing Switch-purchased DLC or each Marketplace entitlement. The August announcement said more digital-upgrade details would follow; the October announcement did not provide a DLC migration procedure. The result and steps for moving those purchases remain unconfirmed.
Bedrock Marketplace purchases
Minecraft’s general guidance says Marketplace content syncs across Bedrock versions when you bought it while signed in to the same Microsoft account. The Nintendo Switch sign-in guide explains how to sign in with the Microsoft account you intend to use. Keeping that same account is the sensible step for Marketplace content, but the general guidance does not confirm that every item will be available automatically in the Switch 2 edition. Minecraft Help’s Marketplace Pass guidance for different devices likewise addresses general account availability, not a Switch 2 migration process.

DLC from the legacy Nintendo Switch Edition
Older instructions for moving from Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition to Switch Bedrock are about that earlier transition, not Switch 2. They said to launch the old version to sync recent purchases and then launch Bedrock; DLC purchased in the legacy edition stayed on the Switch rather than carrying to other devices. Do not treat those steps as a current Switch 2 transfer guide.
Nintendo eShop purchases and accounts
Nintendo Support says a digital purchase cannot be transferred from one Nintendo Account to another. That is distinct from Microsoft-account syncing for Marketplace purchases. Nintendo also says downloaded content loaded as a virtual game card on a console can be accessed by other users of that console; that sharing provision does not change which Nintendo Account owns the purchase. Will locally saved worlds carry over?
Minecraft has not published a Switch-to-Switch 2 procedure confirming whether or how locally stored Switch worlds transfer. The historical world-transfer instructions for Nintendo Switch describe converting older-format worlds to Bedrock on the same Switch. They do not establish a way to move worlds to Switch 2. Until Minecraft documents the new process, do not rely on an automatic transfer or assume that a Marketplace purchase sync will restore local world data.

Minecraft announced a separate Minecoin-wallet change for Nintendo systems, effective October 27, 2026. The date matters: the announcement was made September 1, so as of October 9 the new arrangement had not yet taken effect. Its rules are:

- Minecoins owned before October 27 move to a Legacy Wallet. They remain usable on compatible platforms, do not expire, and are spent before coins in the post-launch wallet.
- Minecoins newly purchased in Minecraft on a Nintendo device—Switch or Switch 2—from October 27 can be used only on Nintendo systems.
- From October 27, Minecoins bought on another device can no longer be used for Marketplace purchases on Nintendo devices.
Minecraft’s Minecoin announcement also notes that Minecoins included with Nintendo editions, including the 700 in Deluxe and 1,000 in Ultimate, must be used in the Nintendo ecosystem.

What to do before moving to Switch 2
- Check your game ownership and region. The free Standard Edition upgrade is stated for digital Switch-game owners and is available through the end of January 2027 in most territories; check Nintendo eShop for the terms shown in your region. Japan and Taiwan have the stated charges.
- Use the same Microsoft account. Sign in to Minecraft on Switch 2 with the account used for Bedrock Marketplace purchases. This aligns with Minecraft’s general sync guidance, though it is not a guarantee about every entitlement.
- Keep Nintendo Account ownership straight. A purchase made through Nintendo eShop is not transferable to a different Nintendo Account. Console access through a virtual game card is not an account transfer.
- Do not treat legacy instructions as Switch 2 steps. The old Switch-to-Bedrock migration guidance does not answer how to transfer Switch data to Switch 2.
- Wait for a specific world and DLC procedure before relying on migration. The official announcements reviewed do not explain the process for existing Switch DLC or local worlds.
