Your Hello Kitty Island Adventure trial save is not deleted when the Game Trial ends. The trial itself becomes unplayable, but Nintendo says you can purchase the full game later and continue from the progress you made during the trial. The October 2026 offer for Nintendo Switch ran from October 9 through October 15, 2026 (Pacific Time); its end removes trial access, not the saved progress.
The short answer: access ends, but the save remains

- Save data remains: Nintendo says the save data created by a Game Trial is not deleted when the trial ends.
For Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Nintendo’s title-specific announcement gives the same assurance: if you buy the game during or after the offer, you keep all save data and can resume your progress. In other words, seeing an expired-trial message does not mean your island, quests, items, or other trial progress has been erased.

The practical result is simple: the trial stops functioning as a game, while its saved progress remains available for the full version to use after purchase.

What Nintendo’s Game Trials policy says
Nintendo Support’s Game Trials FAQ states: “Your save data for a Game Trial is not deleted when a trial ends, so you can pick up where you left off if you purchase the game.” That is the general rule Nintendo gives for Game Trials.
The same FAQ explains that, once the trial period ends, “the Game Trial will no longer be playable.” The wording matters. Nintendo is describing a license or access change, not an automatic save-data deletion. You should therefore treat the expired trial as locked software rather than as a reset of your game.
Nintendo also says that an expired trial may be deleted or archived. Those are optional software-management actions, not a requirement for preserving the save. If you leave the trial installed, it still will not launch as a playable trial after expiration. If you archive or delete the trial software, do not confuse removal of the program with Nintendo’s separate statement that trial save data is not deleted merely because the trial period ended.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure offer dates and scope
Nintendo of Canada announced a time-limited offer for Nintendo Switch Online members to download and try the full Hello Kitty Island Adventure game. The announced window was:

The dates are specific to the Nintendo of Canada announcement and are expressed in Pacific Time. They describe that announced offer, not a permanent entitlement to play the trial after October 15. If you are checking after that date, the Nintendo eShop listing is the appropriate place to verify whether any new promotion or trial is available in your region.
Nintendo’s October 8, 2026 announcement says: “If you decide to purchase the game during or after this offer, you’ll keep all save data, so you won’t have to worry about losing your progress.” That statement independently confirms the general Game Trials policy for this particular title.

How to continue from your trial save
You do not need to finish the trial before its deadline. Nintendo’s policy says the save remains after expiration, and the Hello Kitty Island Adventure announcement says a purchase made during or after the offer keeps the data.
- Let the trial expire or stop playing before the deadline. Once the offer ends, the trial will display that it is no longer playable. An expired-play-time message is an access notice, not proof that the save has vanished.
- Purchase the full game. Use the official Nintendo eShop listing for Hello Kitty Island Adventure and complete the purchase when the game is available in your region. Nintendo expressly allows the purchase to occur after the trial offer.
- Start the full version. The purchased game can use the retained Game Trial save, allowing you to pick up where you left off rather than beginning again.
- Check the title’s downloadable content separately. If you obtained DLC access as part of the trial, read the DLC qualification below; trial DLC access does not remain active simply because the save is retained.
Nintendo’s support article about the expired-play-time error provides the same practical confirmation: buying the game carries over the Game Trial save. The sources do not describe a special export, backup, or conversion procedure that you must perform before purchasing.
What happens to DLC obtained during the trial?
Save retention and DLC access are different issues. Nintendo’s Game Trials FAQ says that access to DLC purchased for a trial returns only after you purchase the full game. Until then, the expired trial is not playable, and trial-related DLC access should not be assumed to continue independently.
This distinction explains why a player may keep the underlying save while still being unable to use trial DLC immediately after expiration. Buying the full game restores the condition Nintendo identifies for regaining that DLC access. The policy does not say that DLC is converted into a separate permanent trial license.
If you did not use or purchase any DLC during the trial, this qualification has no additional action for you. The important point is to avoid treating the base-game save guarantee as a blanket guarantee that every trial entitlement remains usable without the full game.
What an expired-trial message means
After the offer window, launching Hello Kitty Island Adventure through the trial can produce an expired-play-time or similar message. That message has a narrow meaning: the Game Trial’s permission to run has ended.

It does not establish any of the following:
- that Nintendo deleted the save;
- that your progress was reset;
- that you needed to purchase before the final minute of the offer;
- that archiving the trial is required to preserve progress.
Nintendo’s title-specific announcement explicitly says a purchase made during or after the offer keeps all save data. Therefore, an expired message and a retained save can both be true at the same time.
What the guarantee does—and does not—cover
The documented guarantee is limited to normal Game Trial expiration and subsequent purchase of the full game. Nintendo’s sources establish that the save is not deleted when the trial ends and that buying the title lets you continue from it.
They do not establish every possible outcome in unusual data-management situations. In particular, the cited guidance does not promise recovery after you manually delete save data, switch to a different Nintendo Account, move to another console, or otherwise alter the storage environment. Those situations can involve separate Nintendo Switch save-management rules, and they should not be inferred from the trial-expiration guarantee.

For the same reason, do not use the trial policy as proof that a cloud backup exists or that a save can be restored on any device. The official store listing identifies Hello Kitty Island Adventure as a Nintendo Switch title and lists Save Data Cloud support, but that listing does not turn the narrow trial-retention statement into a guarantee about every backup, transfer, or account scenario.

No. Nintendo says you may delete or archive an expired trial, but neither action is presented as necessary for keeping the save. Archiving removes the playable software from active storage while preserving the option to redownload it under the system’s normal rules; deletion removes the software itself. The Game Trials FAQ’s promise concerns the save not being deleted merely because the trial ended.
If storage space is tight, you can manage the trial software after expiration. If you plan to buy the game, you can also leave the trial installed until the purchase is complete. The sources do not require one choice over the other, so use the storage option that fits your console.

Do I have to buy the game immediately?

The documented assurance is specifically about the Game Trial save remaining after expiration and being usable when the full game is purchased; it should not be expanded into a universal transfer guarantee.
The key distinction to remember
