Unlinking a PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo account does not delete Fortnite skins, purchases, or progress from the Epic Games account where they are stored. It removes that console account’s access to them. To see the original profile again, link the console account to the Epic Games account that holds the progress; unlinking and relinking cannot merge or transfer progress between Epic accounts.
What unlinking changes—and what it does not
Epic Games stores Fortnite progress and purchases on the Epic Games account, not on the console account itself. Epic says the data stays on that Epic account after you unlink a console, but the disconnected PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo account can no longer access it. See Epic’s console unlinking guidance.

Unlinking is therefore an access change, not a way to move ownership. Connecting the console to a different Epic account will show that account’s profile instead; it will not bring the original progress along. Epic explains this in its progress-sync recovery article.

Skins and other cosmetics
Fortnite items are shared across platforms linked to the same Epic Games account. A skin or cosmetic on that account should remain available on its other linked platforms. Unlinking one console does not transfer the item to a different Epic account; the console simply loses access while disconnected.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
Other purchases
Purchases remain associated with the Epic account that holds the Fortnite progress. If you link the console to another Epic account, you will see the purchases associated with that other account, not a combined library.
V-Bucks balances
V-Bucks do not all follow the same sharing rules as cosmetic items. Epic says purchased V-Bucks on Nintendo Switch are not shared with other platforms. In Korea, V-Bucks purchased on PC are also not shared. V-Bucks earned through Fortnite Passes, Quest Packs, or Save the World are shared across platforms, and items bought with V-Bucks are available on platforms where you play Fortnite. Check Epic’s V-Bucks sharing guidance for the current wallet rules.

Why Fortnite may show level 1 after unlinking
If you launch Fortnite from a disconnected console, Epic may create a new, empty Epic account for that console. The resulting level-1 profile can look like your old account was erased, but it does not mean the original account’s progress has been deleted. The original progress remains on the Epic account where it was earned.

First identify the Epic Games account that contains the progress and cosmetics you want. Epic recommends checking your accounts before changing links. Do not assume that the Epic account you currently use—or an account created when Fortnite prompted you—holds your original profile.
Rank #3
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

- Sign in to the Epic Games account you believe contains your original Fortnite progress and verify that it is the right account.
- In that account’s settings, open Linked accounts and check which console account is connected. Epic’s current unlink instructions describe the live account-page steps.
- If the console is linked to an empty account, follow Epic’s recovery instructions. They may involve registering and verifying the empty account, unlinking the console from it, and then linking the console to the Epic account with the original progress.
- Launch Fortnite after the console is linked to the correct Epic account and check that the expected profile appears. If it does not, contact Epic Games Support rather than repeatedly changing account links.
Can you link a different PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo account?
Changing to a different account of the same platform type may require removing an account-linking restriction first. Epic says restriction removal can be done only once every 365 days and cannot be bypassed. Review Epic’s instructions for linking a different platform account and check the account page before unlinking; exact interface labels may change.
If the account you plan to remove has an active Fortnite Crew subscription, Epic advises canceling it first. After unlinking, that console account will not receive new Crew rewards.

Before you unlink: a quick decision check
- You do not know which Epic account has your progress: verify the account first; otherwise you may connect the console to an empty or unrelated profile.
- You want to combine two profiles: unlinking and relinking cannot merge Fortnite progress from separate Epic accounts.
- You are replacing a console account with another from the same platform: check whether the account is subject to the 365-day restriction.
- You have Fortnite Crew on the account being removed: review Epic’s cancellation advice before unlinking.
- You are checking a V-Bucks total: account for platform-specific purchased balances, especially on Nintendo Switch and, in Korea, PC.
