Google ended legacy Fitbit-account sign-in on May 19, 2026, and the Fitbit app became Google Health. If you moved your Fitbit account to a Google Account, Google says the historical data you selected during migration is retained there. If you did not move the account, Google offered a download-or-delete window that was scheduled to begin processing on July 15, 2026. That deadline has passed, and Google’s public help pages do not confirm whether any particular unmigrated account has been deleted or guarantee recovery after the cutoff.
The practical next step depends on which path your account took: check the Google Account used for migration, locate any archive you downloaded, or contact official support about an unmigrated account. A new tracker or a reset of the phone app cannot recreate server-side history.

The 2026 Fitbit transition at a glance
| Date or event | What it means |
|---|---|
| May 19, 2026 | Legacy Fitbit-account sign-in support ended. Continuing users had to move to a Google Account. The Fitbit app was renamed Google Health. |
| July 15, 2026 | Google said it would begin processing deletion of data belonging to users who had not migrated. This was a processing start date, not a statement that every account vanished instantly. |
| October 16, 2026 | Both dates are in the past. Public help material does not provide an account-by-account deletion lookup or a general promise of late recovery. |
Google’s migration instructions make retention conditional: You’ll keep all historical data that you choose to move to your Google Account.
That wording matters. It does not say that every category was copied automatically, nor that every old account remains available after the deletion process began.

What happens if you moved Fitbit to a Google Account?
Migration transfers the selected Fitbit history into the Google Account framework. Google says the retained information can then be managed through Google Health and Google Account settings. The move is permanent; Google’s instructions say it cannot be undone after completion.

Check that you are using the same Google Account
- Open Google Health and sign in with the Google Account you selected during Fitbit migration.
- Open the profile or account area and confirm the email address. A different personal, work, school, or family account can make a successful transfer appear to be missing.
- Review the available historical categories, such as activity, sleep, or other Fitbit records you chose during the transfer.
- Open Google Account data and privacy controls and check the Google Health data associated with that account.
Seeing current measurements does not by itself prove that every historical category was moved. Compare the categories and date ranges you expected with what is displayed. The official promise covers the history you selected for transfer, so an item omitted during setup is not covered by that promise.
If the history is only partly visible
- Check whether the migration flow used another Google Account.
- Allow for normal synchronization and sign out and back in before treating a short delay as data loss.
- Look for a local export or archive; an export is independent of what the app currently displays.
- Contact official Google Health support with the Fitbit account email, the Google Account used for migration, and the approximate migration date. Do not delete the account while troubleshooting.
What happens if you did not switch to a Google Account?
Before the transition, Google told legacy users to download or delete their data before deletion processing began on July 15, 2026. That published window has now passed. The notice also says deletion processing takes time and that some users might still be able to migrate during that period, but it does not publish a universal grace period or identify which accounts are still recoverable.

Therefore, an unmigrated account has three possible practical outcomes: it may still be present while processing is incomplete, it may have been deleted, or support may be able to clarify an account-specific status. The public documentation does not establish which outcome applies to an individual user.
Try the remaining account-specific check
- Open the current Google Health sign-in or migration flow.
- Use the original Fitbit sign-in details where prompted and follow any option offered to connect or move the account.
- If the flow cannot find the account, record the exact message and contact official support.
- Ask specifically whether the legacy account’s data is still available for migration or export. Treat any response as account-specific rather than as evidence that all unmigrated accounts remain.
Do not create multiple new accounts in the hope that one will reveal the old history. That can make it harder to identify the Google Account originally associated with the transfer.

Can you still download Fitbit data?
The answer depends on whether the data is still available and which login you used.
| Situation | Export route described by Google | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Google Account user after migration | Use Google’s account-data download process and select Google Health. | Only data retained in that Google Account can be exported; selecting the wrong account can produce an apparently empty result. |
| Legacy Fitbit user before the cutoff | Use Fitbit settings to request a complete archive or export selected data. | Google said a large archive could take up to a few days to prepare. |
| Account already deleted | No export route is promised. | Google’s export guidance says data for deleted accounts is unavailable. |
| Archive already saved | Open the downloaded files locally; they are outside the online account. | Protect the files and keep more than one secure backup. |
Export from a migrated Google Account
- Sign in to the Google Account used for Fitbit migration.
- Open the account’s data-download tool.
- In the product selection list, select Google Health and leave unrelated products unselected unless you need them.
- Choose the file format, delivery method, and date range offered by the tool.
- Request the export and wait for the notification. Large archives can take several days to generate.
- Download the archive, verify that it opens, and store a second encrypted copy in a separate location.
Understand what a saved archive does and does not do
An archive preserves the files you received; it does not reconnect a deleted account or put the data back into Google Health. Keep the original folder structure and metadata, because spreadsheets or JSON files may rely on filenames and timestamps to show how records relate to one another. If the archive contains sensitive health information, use encrypted storage and avoid sending it through ordinary email.

Did Google delete your old Fitbit account?
There is no public, general-purpose page that tells you whether a specific legacy account has completed deletion. Google’s wording distinguishes the start of deletion processing from instantaneous erasure. It also says some users might still be able to migrate during processing. As of October 16, 2026, the help pages do not state how long processing takes for an individual account, whether an exception is available, or whether a particular account can be restored.
That means an unsuccessful sign-in is not enough to prove that every historical file has already been destroyed, but it is also not evidence that recovery is available. Only an account-specific check with Google can resolve that uncertainty.

Privacy after migration
For data used with a Google Account, Google says it is the data controller and that the Google Privacy Policy applies. Google also states: Health and wellness data is not used for Google ads.
That is Google’s policy commitment, not an independent technical audit, and it applies specifically to Fitbit health and wellness data rather than to every kind of information in a Google Account.
Information shared with connected third-party services can be governed by those services’ own notices and terms. Review those services separately instead of assuming that the Fitbit or Google Health policy controls data after it leaves Google’s systems.
Cloud account deletion is different from data on the tracker
Deleting an online account does not automatically erase information stored locally on a Fitbit device, according to Google’s device-and-account guidance. The cloud record and the tracker’s local storage are separate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBefore giving away or selling a device
- Sync any records you still need while the device is connected to the correct account.
- Follow the specific device’s reset or erase instructions.
- Remove the device from the phone’s Bluetooth list and from any account or app device list.
- Confirm that the next person cannot open your profile, notifications, payment features, or stored settings.
A factory reset protects the device’s local contents; it cannot restore a server-side account that was deleted or never migrated.
Common problems and the safest response
“I migrated, but the app shows no old records.”
- Verify the signed-in Google Account email.
- Check Google Health and the account’s data controls, not only the main dashboard.
- Review whether the missing category was selected during migration.
- Look for an existing export before changing account settings.
“The export is empty or missing dates.”
- Run the export from the account that actually received the migration.
- Check the selected products and date range.
- Wait for a large archive to finish generating and download it again if the first package is incomplete.
- Compare against any archive saved before July 15, 2026.
“I never migrated and only just noticed the deadline.”
- Try the current Google Health migration flow once.
- Contact official support and provide identifying account details.
- Do not describe recovery as guaranteed; the public guidance provides no post-cutoff promise.
- Avoid deleting the Google Health account as a troubleshooting step.
“I want to delete everything now.”
First distinguish the login type and the locations of the data. Google says account deletion rules differ between Google Account and legacy Fitbit sign-ins, and deleting the account does not automatically clear a device. Export anything you need, erase the tracker separately, and then use the deletion controls for the correct account.
Quick Recap
A practical decision checklist
- Identify the account path: migrated Google Account, unmigrated legacy account, or archive already saved.
- Check the correct login: use the exact Google Account associated with migration, not merely the one currently signed in on your phone.
- Verify the history: inspect categories and dates in Google Health and account data controls.
- Export what remains: select Google Health for a migrated account, or use an existing legacy archive.
- Preserve backups: keep two secure copies of any downloaded health data.
- Escalate uncertainty: ask official support about an unmigrated account’s status; public pages cannot answer for a particular account.
- Handle the hardware separately: reset the tracker before transfer or sale, regardless of what happened to the cloud account.
