A banned card in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel is not deleted from your account. It stays in your digital collection, but a card marked Forbidden cannot be placed in the Main Deck, Extra Deck, or Side Deck. Cards marked Limited are restricted to one copy across those decks, while Semi-Limited cards are restricted to two.
Your practical choices are to keep the card for a future format or dismantle eligible copies for Craft Points. Whether a dismantled card receives a special bonus depends on when you obtained or generated it relative to the Forbidden & Limited List update notice, as well as the card’s rarity, finish, and copy status.

What each Master Duel restriction allows
Master Duel’s own Forbidden & Limited List controls deck legality. The status shown in the game, rather than a paper-game list or a list from another region, determines what you can submit in a Master Duel Duel.
| Status | Copies permitted in Main, Extra and Side Decks | What happens to copies you own |
|---|---|---|
| Forbidden | Zero | The card remains in your collection but cannot be included in any of the three deck areas. |
| Limited | One copy total | You may keep and use one copy; additional copies cannot be registered in the same deck. |
| Semi-Limited | Two copies total | You may register up to two copies; extra copies remain collection items. |
| Unrestricted | The normal deck-building maximum for that card | No list-specific copy restriction applies. |
The limits apply across the relevant deck areas, not once per area. You cannot work around a one-copy limit by putting one copy in the Main Deck and another in the Extra or Side Deck.

Do banned cards disappear?
No. A restriction changes where a card may be used, not whether the digital item exists in your account. A Forbidden card can still appear in your card list, search results, deck editor and dismantle inventory. Its artwork, rarity and finish are retained until you choose to dismantle it.
This distinction matters because a list change is not the same as a refund or an automatic exchange. Master Duel does not, simply by marking a card Forbidden, remove it and place Craft Points in your account. You must decide whether to keep the copy or use the game’s dismantle function. If the card later receives a different status, a copy you kept is still available; the sources reviewed do not promise when, or whether, any particular card will return to legality.
What dismantling does
Dismantling converts an eligible card into Craft Points, the currency used to generate cards of the same rarity. It is the documented recovery route for a card you no longer want to keep. Dismantling is permanent for that copy: after confirmation, the card is no longer in your collection and must be generated again if you need it later.

- Open the Deck or Cards area and search for the restricted card by name, attribute or rarity.
- Select the specific copy and open its card-details panel. Confirm that the status is the Master Duel status you intend to act on; paper TCG or OCG status is not a substitute.
- Choose Dismantle. The confirmation panel shows the Craft Point return for that copy and indicates whether a special Dismantle Bonus applies.
- Compare the displayed return with your reason for keeping the card. Check every copy separately if you own normal, Glossy or Royal versions, because finish and eligibility can affect the result.
- Confirm only after checking the in-game notice and the amount shown. The card is removed immediately once the dismantle is accepted.
The amount displayed in Master Duel is the authoritative value for that copy. Do not assume that two copies with the same name will produce the same return when they were generated at different times or have different finishes.

How the Dismantle Bonus timing rule works
A special refund can apply when a card becomes newly affected by a Forbidden & Limited List update. Eligibility is tied to the timing of the list-update announcement. The policy reported by Master Duel Meta on July 18, 2025, said the relevant changes would take effect on July 25, 2025.
Under that policy, a card generated after the announcement of the update is not eligible for the new Dismantle Bonus. In practical terms, crafting a copy after you already know it is about to be restricted does not turn that copy into a bonus-refund copy. It is generally treated like an ordinary card you decide to dismantle.
| When the copy was generated or obtained | Typical treatment described in the July 2025 report | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Before the list-update notice, and otherwise qualifying | May receive the special Dismantle Bonus when the update takes effect. | The card’s dismantle screen, copy order and finish. |
| After the list-update notice | Not eligible for that newly announced bonus; treated as a standard dismantle. | The exact Craft Point amount shown before confirmation. |
| Timing or eligibility unclear | Do not infer eligibility from the card’s current status alone. | The in-game announcement and the card-details panel. |
The report gives a UR example: a qualifying first existing copy can receive a full 30 UR Craft Point refund, while a post-notice crafted copy is described as worth the standard 10 Craft Points. Those figures are examples from that policy report, not a universal current table for every rarity, finish or future list update. Master Duel can specify different treatment for additional copies, so rely on the amount displayed in your client.

Why rarity, finish and copy order matter
Three copies that look identical in a deck list may not be equivalent for dismantling purposes.
Rank #3
- 9 Cards per Pack 24 Packs per Display box
- Rarity: Craft Points are tracked by rarity, so a UR, SR, R or N copy does not use the same return category.
- Finish: Normal, Glossy and Royal versions can have different dismantle values or eligibility rules. Select the exact finish before confirming.
- Acquisition timing: A copy generated before the update notice can be treated differently from one generated afterward.
- Copy position: A policy may grant a full bonus to a first qualifying copy and apply another rule to additional copies. The July 2025 report specifically describes this distinction.
Because those variables interact, a general “banned cards are worth X points” rule is unsafe. The confirmation window is where Master Duel applies the current policy to your actual copy.
Should you keep or dismantle a Forbidden card?
Use your expected future use and the displayed refund, not the emotional reaction to a ban, as the decision rule.
Keep it when future use is plausible
- You expect to play an event or alternate format in which the card may be legal.
- The card is a key component of a deck you may rebuild if the list changes.
- The available refund is small compared with the Craft Points you would need to generate the card again.
- You own a special finish that would be expensive or inconvenient to recreate.
Dismantle it when the conversion is more valuable
- The in-game panel shows that the copy qualifies for a bonus and you need Craft Points for a deck you can play now.
- You have surplus copies beyond the number you realistically plan to keep.
- You do not expect to use the card in any event or future format you play.
- You have checked the notice and understand that dismantling is irreversible for that copy.
A ban alone is not a reason to dismantle every copy immediately. It removes current deck legality, but it does not provide a timetable for a reversal. Conversely, keeping a card is not a way to claim a bonus later: if a bonus window has an expiration or update-specific condition, the client determines whether the copy still qualifies.

Worked situations
A card you owned before the announcement
You already had one UR copy when the list-update notice appeared, and the card became Forbidden when the update took effect. Open the card’s dismantle panel after the update. If the client labels the copy as bonus-eligible and displays the higher return, you can either accept that refund or keep the card. The card remains unusable in decks while it is Forbidden.

A copy crafted after the announcement
You generated the same UR card after the notice but before or after the effective date. The July 2025 policy report says that newly generated copies after the notice do not qualify for the new Dismantle Bonus. The panel will normally show the standard return rather than the special refund. Decide based on that displayed amount, not on the fact that another, older copy might qualify.
Two copies with different finishes
You own a Normal copy and a Royal copy. Select each one separately. Their returns can differ because finish is one of the policy variables. If the Royal copy is valuable to you as a collector or for a future deck, dismantling the Normal copy may preserve more flexibility even when the card has the same Forbidden status.
A Semi-Limited card with three copies
The card is not banned: it is Semi-Limited, so only two copies may be registered across the relevant decks. You can keep all three in your collection, use two in a legal deck, and dismantle the third if the displayed return is worthwhile. The restriction does not automatically destroy or refund the extra copy.

Konami describes the Forbidden & Limited List in Master Duel as the system that regulates cards banned or limited in Duels. The digital game has its own update schedule and status changes. A card’s status in the physical Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, the OCG, or a different region is not proof of its Master Duel status.

Before changing a deck, check the announcement panel and the list shown inside Master Duel. This also tells you the effective date and any dismantle-bonus language for that update. The product is a free-to-play digital card game with optional in-game purchases and more than 10,000 cards, so physical cards, sealed products and accessories do not affect what happens to a digital copy.
Troubleshooting common surprises
“The card is banned, but I received no points.”
That is expected if you have not dismantled the card. A status change does not automatically exchange the card for Craft Points. Open the card details and start the dismantle flow to see the available return.
“My friend received more points for the same card.”
Compare generation date, finish, rarity and copy order. A pre-notice qualifying copy and a post-notice crafted copy can receive different treatment, and a Royal or Glossy version may not match a Normal version.
“I crafted the card after seeing the notice.”
The July 2025 policy report says post-notice generations are excluded from that newly announced Dismantle Bonus. Check the panel for the standard value before deciding whether the craft was still worthwhile.
“The card is Limited, so why can I not play three copies?”
Limited means one copy total across the Main, Extra and Side Decks. Semi-Limited means two. Move or remove the excess copies in the deck editor; ownership of additional copies is still allowed.
“Can I undo a dismantle?”
Treat dismantling as permanent. The reviewed policy does not promise an undo function. If you might want the card for a future format, keep it rather than assuming you can recover the original copy.
A safe checklist before confirming
- Read the status and effective date in Master Duel’s own list.
- Open the exact copy, including its rarity and finish.
- Read the dismantle amount and any Dismantle Bonus label shown in the confirmation panel.
- Determine whether the copy was generated before or after the update notice.
- Keep at least one copy when future events, alternate formats or a possible reversal matter to you.
- Confirm only when the displayed Craft Point return is worth giving up the card permanently.
The Bottom Line
Forbidden cards stay in your Master Duel collection but cannot be used in the Main, Extra or Side Deck; Limited and Semi-Limited cards remain usable within their one- and two-copy caps. Dismantling is optional, and any special refund depends on the update notice, acquisition timing, rarity, finish and copy eligibility shown by the game.
