Apple says subscriptions that block a country or region change must be canceled and allowed to run through the end of their term. Your music access then depends on whether the subscription remains active and which tracks are available in the destination storefront.
What changes—and what does not
Apple’s country-change instructions do not say that every Apple Music subscription is automatically canceled, transferred, repriced, or given a new billing date. The outcome for a specific plan and destination country is not established by that general guidance. Check the plan’s status and renewal details in your account, and confirm destination-country terms with Apple.

What happens to your library and downloads
While your subscription is active
Apple warns that some content may not be available in a new country or region. That is a general warning, not a promise that all tracks will disappear when you change regions. A song’s availability in the destination storefront may differ from its availability in your current one.

If Apple Music expires
Apple says that when an Apple Music subscription expires, catalog songs can no longer be played, catalog-based playlists become unavailable, and Sync Library turns off. Music and playlists that were on your device before you subscribed remain available. A downloaded subscription-catalog track is not a permanent purchase, so downloading it does not guarantee access after the subscription ends. See Apple’s Apple Music cancellation guidance.
Check these things before changing your region
- Apple Music status and billing source: Review the plan’s status and renewal date in your Apple Account subscription settings. If another provider bills you, check whether cancellation or account changes must be handled there.
- Subscriptions that block the change: Apple instructs customers to cancel subscriptions that block a country or region change and wait until the subscription period ends. Its guidance does not say every Apple Music plan necessarily blocks the change. Apple’s country or region change instructions explain the requirement.
- Other account items: Apple’s checklist includes spending remaining Apple Account balance and resolving pending memberships, pre-orders, rentals, Season Passes, and credit refunds.
- Payment method and billing address: Have a valid payment method and billing address for the destination region if Apple requires them. Check the destination country’s accepted payment methods and Apple Music terms, which can vary by region and change over time.
- Family Sharing: Apple says membership in a Family Sharing group might prevent a country or region change. Check whether leaving the group is necessary.
- Content you rely on: Apple recommends redownloading music and other content to devices you may use later because some items might not be available in the new storefront. This does not preserve access to subscription-catalog music after the subscription expires.
Where to change your Apple Account country or region
On iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro, Apple’s instructions start at Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases > Country/Region. Apple also documents routes for Mac, Windows, and the web on its country or region change page. Before confirming the change, follow the account checklist and verify the destination storefront’s availability and terms.

What to verify for your specific plan
Because Apple’s general guidance does not settle how an individual subscription will be handled in a particular destination country, verify whether your plan is active, whether it blocks the region change, and what the destination storefront offers. If any detail is unclear, ask Apple or the provider that bills you before changing regions.
