Blurring your home in Apple Maps hides the address in published Look Around imagery; it is not a command to delete your saved Home address, recent searches, or route history. Directions to a Home destination should therefore continue to work, but Apple does not publish an explicit guarantee about this exact combination. That conclusion is an inference from Apple documenting imagery requests and navigation data separately. See Apple Maps & Privacy and Apple’s Image Collection Privacy by Design.
What a home blur actually changes
Apple Maps can show street-level panoramas through Look Around where coverage exists. A privacy report asking Apple to obscure your home applies to those published images. It changes what another person can see when they view the property in Look Around; it does not function as a general “erase my address” or “delete my Maps data” switch.

Apple describes navigation, saved places, recents, visited places and imagery as separate parts of Maps. Its privacy disclosure explains how a directions request is handled, while its image-collection document explains collection and privacy requests for photographed scenes. Neither document says that approving an imagery-obscuring request removes a Home entry or disables routing.
Consequently, a Home address saved in Maps should remain available as a destination after the image is obscured. Treat that as a reasoned reading of Apple’s documentation, not an express Apple promise. A software update, account state or device setting could still affect what appears in your own Maps app.

What should continue working
Your saved Home destination
If you have assigned an address as Home in Contacts or Maps, blurring the exterior image does not provide a documented mechanism for deleting that record. Selecting Home as a destination should still build a route in the normal way, subject to the usual requirements: an internet connection for map data, Location Services permissions when you want a current starting point, and a supported transport mode.
Searching for the address
A privacy request for Look Around imagery is different from clearing search suggestions. The address can remain in Maps Recents or other personalized lists until you remove it through the relevant controls. Other people who search for the public address may still see map data and routing information; the requested change concerns the photographic view, not the existence of the street address in cartography.
Turn-by-turn navigation
When you request directions, Apple says the request can include the destination, your origin or current device location when you have authorized location access, the selected travel mode and a random identifier that lasts for that navigation session. Obscuring a photo therefore does not mean Apple stops receiving the information needed to calculate a route. Details are set out in Apple Maps & Privacy.

What a blur does not delete
Do not expect an imagery request to remove any of the following:
- A saved Home address or pinned location.
- Maps Recents, including destinations you searched for recently.
- Significant Locations & Routes history.
- Visited Places records or their retention settings.
- Directions-request data sent while navigation is being calculated or provided.
Those records and features have their own controls. If your concern is that someone could discover where you live from a suggestion, focus on the saved data and history settings rather than relying on the Look Around request.
How to request that Apple obscure your home
The current procedure reported by Tom’s Guide on October 9, 2026 uses the Look Around viewer. Interface names can change with iOS releases, map coverage and country, so use Apple’s current image-collection privacy instructions if a label is missing.

- Preloaded with Topo Active maps with routable roads and trails for cycling and hiking
- Support for GPS and GLONASS satellite systems allows for tracking in more challenging environments than GPS alone
- 8 GB of internal memory for map downloads plus a micro SD card slot
- Open Apple Maps and search for your home.
- Enter Look Around if the location has Look Around coverage. No request can be made through Look Around where imagery is unavailable.
- In the image viewer, choose Report an Issue.
- Select Privacy Concerns.
- Choose Obscure imagery of my home.
- Confirm the address shown in the report and submit it.
- Complete any verification Apple requests and retain the confirmation that the report was received or processed.
These labels and steps are reported interface guidance, not a permanent Apple guarantee. Tom’s Guide’s procedure is described at How to blur your house on Apple Maps. Apple’s own Image Collection Privacy by Design document is the better reference for the current request channel, eligibility and verification requirements.
Blurred imagery versus directions and history
These two privacy actions solve different problems. Use the first when you want to change the public photographic view; use the second when you want to change what your device or account remembers.
| Action | What it changes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Obscure published imagery | Requests that Apple hide a home in Look Around imagery, where coverage exists and Apple accepts the request. | It does not state that a Home address, Recents, Significant Locations & Routes or Visited Places are erased. |
| Clear Maps Recents | Removes recent destination and search entries from the Recents list on the device or account context covered by Apple’s control. | It is not an imagery change and does not necessarily remove every location record. |
| Clear Significant Locations & Routes | Deletes the history used by that location feature, according to Apple’s settings. | It does not blur a public Look Around scene. |
| Manage or turn off Visited Places | Controls whether Maps keeps and displays places you have visited, including retention options where offered. | It does not remove a public street address or alter route calculation by itself. |
How to stop Maps from suggesting a route home
If the practical issue is an unwanted suggestion, handle the data source that produces it. Apple Support’s personal-safety guide documents controls for Recents, Significant Locations & Routes and Visited Places. Menu wording can vary by operating-system version and region; check the current guide while following the steps.

Apple also documents ways to clear Maps Recents and to manage the retention of Visited Places in the same personal-safety guide: Keep your location history private in Maps. If a route suggestion remains, inspect both Recents and Visited Places, and check whether the address is still deliberately saved as Home or pinned. Removing history does not automatically remove a deliberately saved destination.

It is inaccurate to say that Apple never receives route information. Apple’s Maps privacy disclosure says a directions request may include:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- The destination you entered.
- Your origin and current device location when Location Services access is authorized.
- The transport mode selected for the request.
- A random identifier created for that directions request and retained for the navigation session.
This information is used to return directions. It is separate from whether a camera image of your home is publicly obscured. A blur request should therefore be understood as a change to published imagery, not as a change to the data exchange required for navigation.

How Apple describes personalization and encryption
Apple says many personalized Maps features are created from data generated on the device. It also says that, when you are signed in and have two-factor authentication enabled, synced Pinned Locations, Recents, Visited Places and Guides are end-to-end encrypted. The exact feature and synchronization behavior depends on your account and device configuration, so do not treat encryption as proof that no route details are processed during an active directions request.
Apple’s broad design statement is: “Maps is designed from the ground up to protect your privacy.” That sentence describes Apple’s stated design intent; it is not a specific promise that a home-blur request will remove, retain or alter any particular navigation record. Read the full disclosure at Apple Maps & Privacy.
If directions behave differently after the request
A change in routing is more likely to have an ordinary Maps or device cause than the imagery report itself. Work through these checks:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Verify the destination: open the Home contact or saved place and confirm that its street address has not been edited.
- Check connectivity: weak data service can prevent current traffic, map tiles or route results from loading.
- Review Location Services: if access is denied, Maps may not know your current origin and may ask you to enter one.
- Check the travel mode: driving, walking, cycling and transit can produce different routes or availability.
- Update Maps through iOS: install the current system update if the app shows missing imagery or routing errors.
- Test a manually entered address: compare the result with selecting Home. A discrepancy can reveal a stale saved contact or pin.
Do not submit repeated privacy reports merely because a route changed. First determine whether the destination record, permissions, network or travel mode changed.
Can you pull up your route history?
Apple does not describe the home-blur process as a route-history viewer or deletion tool. Maps Recents can show recent destinations, while Significant Locations & Routes and Visited Places provide separate history-related features and controls. The amount of detail visible, the retention period and the available controls depend on the feature, iOS version, region and your settings. Apple’s support guide is the authoritative place to see what your device currently offers: Keep your location history private in Maps.
The practical answer
Request the blur if your goal is to hide your home in public Look Around imagery. Separately review Home, Recents, Significant Locations & Routes and Visited Places if your goal is to stop Maps or another person using your device from surfacing a route home. The imagery request and the navigation-history controls address different data, so one should not be treated as a substitute for the other.
