If an MLB playoff game is tied after nine innings, it continues into extra innings until a team wins; postseason extra innings start with the bases empty. If a game is stopped after it begins, a qualifying suspended game is completed later from where it stopped. A game postponed before first pitch is handled separately, with the new schedule and ticket instructions announced for that specific event.
If the score is tied after nine innings
The game continues into extra innings. MLB defines a regulation game as one in which both teams have had the opportunity to make 27 outs; if the score is still tied, play continues until one team wins. MLB’s regulation-game glossary explains the rule.

Unlike regular-season extra innings, postseason innings do not begin with an automatic runner on second. The bases are empty when a playoff extra inning starts. MLB’s postseason FAQ distinguishes the playoff rules from the regular-season automatic-runner rule.
If a game is stopped after it starts
A game that must be finished later may be designated a suspended game. MLB says a suspended game is completed from the point where play stopped, rather than restarted from the beginning. MLB’s glossary says this approach has applied to postseason games since 2008: Suspended Game | MLB Glossary.

Not every interruption or terminated game automatically qualifies as suspended. Check MLB or the host club’s official notice for whether the game is suspended and for its resumption time and location.
If the game is postponed before first pitch
A pregame postponement does not have one universal rescheduling date, venue, or ticket outcome. Those details depend on the event. Check the official MLB postseason schedule and the host club’s game notice for the replacement date and location, plus instructions for tickets. Do not assume a ticket will automatically be valid for a new date or refunded; follow the policy stated for that game.

If teams are tied in the standings
A standings tie is different from a tied score in a playoff game. MLB says it no longer schedules a “Game 163” to decide postseason qualification or seeding. Those ties are resolved mathematically, with head-to-head record considered first. See MLB’s playoff tiebreaker rules.
Why a postponement can affect the schedule
MLB’s format FAQ describes a 12-team postseason, with six qualifiers from each league. The rounds are the Wild Card Series, Division Series, League Championship Series, and World Series; the top two division winners in each league receive byes to the Division Series. The FAQ says Wild Card Series games are scheduled within a three-day window and played at the higher seed’s park. These format details provide context, but they do not determine how every delay changes a bracket or later game time. For that, follow the official announcement for the affected game.
