Has the student’s identity been released?
The Times reported that authorities had not released the student’s identity. It noted that mourners and social media posts, including an online fundraiser, used the name “Xavier.” That is a community-reported identification, not an official identification confirmed by authorities.
How did the school community respond?
Hundreds of mourners attended a vigil at the school on Thursday, October 1, the Times reported, while students returned to class. In a message to families, the school said mental-health professionals would be available and encouraged families to check in with their children.

Ninth-grader Andrew Rivas told the Times that the loss was a reminder to check on peers: “That just shows to you that, like you never know what someone’s going through, and that you should always, if someone seems sad or anything, just check up on them,” he said.

As of the Times’ October 1 report, the LAPD was investigating and had not provided further details. The report did not state that investigators had reached a conclusion about the circumstances of the fall. Because this is a recent case, the status may change as authorities release more information.
