What is GTA VI’s Criminal Profile?
In an English translation of a Famitsu interview published September 9, Rob Nelson said Criminal Profile is the first GTA system to track some player actions and assess what kind of criminal the player is. He described the distinction this way: “whether you’re more of a professional criminal, or whether you’re violent and dangerous.” Nelson also said the assessment affects whether people around you and the world respond aggressively. That makes “honor” a loose comparison, not the system’s confirmed name or a promise of a morality meter. Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a current release date of November 19, 2026. It does not document Criminal Profile’s detailed rules.
What kinds of choices may affect your profile?
Controlled crime versus unnecessary escalation
Nelson’s examples point to restraint and control as signs of a more professional approach. In a jewelry-store robbery, he said that even if a player shoots someone, handling the situation well and escaping quickly can move the profile toward that style. The distinction is not simply whether violence occurs; how you handle the situation matters too.

Repeated, disproportionate aggression
Nelson told GamesRadar that required mission behavior and proportionate self-defense are fair game. Repeatedly going beyond what is necessary, or consistently doing things that are unnecessary, may push the profile in another direction. Does GTA VI have named honor ranks?
PC Gamer reported four main Criminal Profile states—Professional, Aggressive, Violent, and Psycho—and a purported difficult-to-reach “shattered” state. Those labels come from preview reporting, not from the cited developer explanation or Rockstar’s public game page. Treat them as reported details, not a confirmed, complete, final rank list. How is Criminal Profile different from Red Dead Redemption 2 Honor?
Nelson said Criminal Profile shares some features with Red Dead Redemption 2’s Honor system, but Rockstar did not carry over Honor’s store-discount mechanic. His explanation centers on the kind of criminal you become and how people and the wider world respond. The available description does not establish a detailed one-to-one comparison with RDR2’s other effects.

Nelson’s translated interview says excessive criminal behavior may have some effect on the story or characters. That is a possibility, not a mapped outcome: the available statements do not establish exact thresholds, guaranteed ending changes, or mission locks. Rockstar has also said the system is not meant to force a “good person” playthrough. Nelson said, “There’s no such thing as the ‘correct way to play,’ and we’ve worked hard to avoid telling people how they should play.”
