Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Google Pixel naming has three separate parts: the generation number in the marketed name, a suffix such as Pro or Fold, and an alphanumeric model code used in regulatory and support records. They are related, but they are not interchangeable. “Pixel 10 Pro” names a product in the tenth numbered generation; “GEHN3” is the code Google associates with that specific model.
To identify a phone you already own, Google’s recommended path is Settings > About phone. Read the entry labelled Model or IMEI, then match the displayed information with Google’s official device information. For compatibility, repairs or accessories, use the exact model and market rather than relying on the generation number alone.

Pixel model names contain three different identifiers
The generation number
The number in a name such as Pixel 8, Pixel 9 or Pixel 10 is the generation label Google uses for that family. It is a naming and chronology clue, not a complete specification. A higher number does not by itself establish the screen size, processor, camera system, network bands or support period. Those details can differ between models in the same generation and must be checked in the specifications for the exact device.

The suffix
A suffix is part of the marketed model name. Google treats Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Pixel 10a as separate named devices. The suffix therefore helps distinguish products that share a generation number. It should not be treated as a universal technical formula: the practical meaning of “Pro,” “XL,” “Fold” or “a” can vary from one generation to another.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro XL; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
The alphanumeric code
Google’s safety and regulatory records also use short codes such as GK2MP and GEHN3. These are lookup identifiers. Google’s published pages connect each code to a device name, but they do not provide a character-by-character key explaining what every letter or number means. Reading a code as if it were a hidden specification or country code is therefore unreliable.
Current Pixel examples: names, codes and US availability
The table below combines Google’s listed model codes with the availability dates shown in Google’s US Google Store history. The dates describe when a device was available to purchase in that store, not necessarily the first sale date in every country.
| Marketed name | Google-listed model code | US Google Store availability | What the entry establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pixel 10 | GK2MP | August 2025 | Base model in the Pixel 10 generation |
| Pixel 10 Pro | GEHN3 | August 2025 | Pro model in the Pixel 10 generation |
| Pixel 10 Pro XL | G45RY | August 2025 | Pro XL model in the Pixel 10 generation |
| Pixel 10 Pro Fold | GU0NP | October 2025 | Fold model in the Pixel 10 generation |
| Pixel 10a | G4H7L | March 2026 | A-series model in the Pixel 10 generation |
Google labels the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL as 2025 devices in its specifications and regulatory materials. The separate availability table places the Pixel 10 Pro Fold in October 2025 and Pixel 10a in March 2026. “2025 device” and “August 2025 availability,” for example, are different editorial facts: one identifies the model’s release-year grouping, while the other records a store-purchase date.
What the Pixel suffixes tell you
Pixel without a suffix
The plain name, such as Pixel 10, identifies the base member of that numbered family. It does not mean that every base Pixel has the same dimensions, cameras or materials as an earlier base Pixel. Compare the generation-specific specification sheet when those details affect a purchase or repair.

- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
Pixel Pro
“Pro” marks a distinct model name rather than a guarantee that a particular feature appears in every generation. Google’s records list Pixel 10 Pro separately from Pixel 10, so use the full name when checking specifications, accessories or software documentation.
Pixel Pro XL
“Pro XL” is another separate named model. Do not substitute assumptions from a different generation’s XL device. Screen, battery, camera or charging differences need to be verified for the exact generation and model code.
Pixel Pro Fold
“Pro Fold” identifies a foldable model in Google’s naming system. Its form factor makes exact-model checking especially important for cases, screen protectors, replacement displays and repair procedures. The name alone does not tell you which regional variant you have.

Pixel A-series
The “a” suffix identifies an A-series model, such as Pixel 10a. It is a separate product name, not a universal promise about price, materials or performance. If two A-series phones from different generations are being compared, use each model’s specifications rather than carrying a feature assumption from one year to the next.

How to find the model number on a Pixel you own
Google’s Pixel Phone Help instructions use the phone’s About page. Follow these steps before searching by appearance or ordering a part:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap About phone.
- Scroll until you see Model or IMEI, the fields Google identifies for finding device information.
- Record the model information exactly as displayed, including letters and numbers.
- Match that information with Google’s official safety and regulatory device information to confirm the marketed name.
If the phone is damaged, locked or unable to boot, check any original purchase or carrier documentation for a model designation, then verify it against Google’s records when possible. A photograph of the rear panel is not a reliable substitute: visually similar Pixels can have different suffixes or regional variants.
Why the exact model matters for compatibility
A family label such as “Pixel 10” does not establish every fact needed for a compatibility decision. The same generation can contain a base phone, Pro, Pro XL, Pro Fold and A-series model, each with different physical or technical requirements. A code lookup narrows the identification to the device Google lists, but it still does not replace checking the market and specification details relevant to your decision.
- Accessories: Cases, screen protectors, docks and camera covers generally depend on the exact chassis and camera layout, not just the generation number.
- Repair parts: A display, battery or back panel can be model-specific. Confirm the complete model designation before buying a replacement.
- Network use: Carrier and regional variants can affect supported bands or activation. The reviewed Google pages do not provide a universal global variant map, so confirm the destination carrier and country separately.
- Software or service instructions: A guide written for a Pro Fold may not apply to the base Pixel or an A-series phone, even when the generation number matches.
- Resale or insurance records: Use the official model information rather than a seller’s abbreviated title so the record identifies the device you actually possess.
How to compare two Pixel models correctly
Use this sequence whenever a listing, repair quote or support article leaves the model unclear:
- Write the full marketed names. Include the generation and every suffix, for example “Pixel 10 Pro” rather than simply “Pixel 10.”
- Capture each exact model code. Find it in About phone or in the official device record. Do not infer one code from another model in the same family.
- Separate timing facts. Note the release-year grouping and the store or country availability date independently. A US Google Store date is not a worldwide launch date.
- Compare the specifications that affect your decision. Check display dimensions, cameras, processor, connectivity, storage, charging and dimensions in Google’s specification entry for each exact model.
- Check the market and carrier. Before assuming network compatibility or warranty coverage, verify the country, unlocked or carrier status and any regional model information.
- Confirm the accessory or part listing. The listing should name the same model, not merely the same generation.
This method prevents a common error: treating a generation number as if it were a complete product specification.
Release year, availability date and ownership age are different
Google’s records group recent models by release year, while its availability table records when each device could be purchased on the US Google Store. Those dates answer different questions. A phone may be a 2025-generation model yet have a later availability entry than another model in that generation, as the Pixel 10 Pro Fold example shows. Availability in another country can also differ.
Neither date tells you when an individual handset was first activated or how long its previous owner used it. For a used phone, treat the generation and store-availability information as model history, then check the handset’s own purchase, activation or warranty records if ownership age matters.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Confusing a code with a generation
GK2MP is not “Pixel generation 2” and GEHN3 is not a plain-language description of the Pro model’s features. They are identifiers that Google maps to named devices. Always perform the name-to-code match in the official list.

Assuming a suffix has one permanent meaning
It is safe to say that Pro, Pro XL, Pro Fold and a-series entries are distinct names in Google’s records. It is not safe to assume that a suffix guarantees the same camera, screen, processor or materials in every generation.
Using an appearance-only identification
Camera bars, colors and size can overlap between models. Appearance is useful for a preliminary guess, but About phone and the official model record are the dependable route when a part, case or network decision is involved.
Treating US availability as a global launch date
The availability table explicitly covers purchase on the US Google Store. Do not rewrite an August, October or March entry as the first sale date in every market.

The official pages reviewed do not explain each character in the alphanumeric code or publish a universal country-and-carrier map. If a seller claims that one letter proves a region or hardware configuration, ask for the complete model information and verify it through Google’s device records.
A practical identification checklist
- Open Settings > About phone.
- Copy the displayed model and IMEI information without omitting characters.
- Match the code to Google’s official safety and regulatory information.
- Record the complete marketed name, including Pro, XL, Fold or a-series wording.
- For a purchase or repair, verify country, carrier status and the specification entry for that exact model.
- Use Google’s US availability date only as a US Google Store purchasing reference.
The useful distinction is simple: the number tells you the named generation, the suffix distinguishes the product within that generation, and the alphanumeric code lets you look up the exact device in Google’s records. Keeping those three identifiers separate is the safest way to answer “What Google Pixel do I have?” and to avoid compatibility mistakes.
