Google and Constellation announced signed agreements on October 6, 2026—not merely a deal in progress. The package combines a 20-year agreement tied to upgrades that are expected to add 890 megawatts (MW) of nuclear capacity at existing plants, a separate 15-year agreement for 2,700 MW from Constellation’s existing fleet, and a five-year cloud and AI technology partnership. The 890 MW is planned new capacity; it is not the same thing as the 2,700 MW of existing-fleet supply.
What the agreements include
The announcement contains three distinct commitments. Google and Constellation describe the first two as energy agreements and the third as a technology collaboration.

The companies say the uprates represent more than $4.3 billion in new investment. Their joint announcement does not describe the 890 MW as output from a newly built reactor: it is planned additional capacity from upgrades to existing units. Google and Constellation’s announcement
When is the additional capacity expected?
The companies expect the first uprate by 2028. That is a projected milestone, not confirmation that the upgrade has been completed or that all 890 MW will be available by that date. The announcement does not give a full schedule for the 11 units. Joint announcement

Why Google and Constellation say they made the deal
Google points to rising electricity needs, including demand associated with data centers. The companies present the agreements as a way to support dependable generation on the PJM grid while addressing that demand. The package also includes load shaping and demand-response measures intended to curtail non-critical consumption during periods of grid stress. Constellation CEO Joe Dominguez said that preserving and expanding existing nuclear output is critical to meeting energy needs while keeping costs affordable. That is the company’s position, not independent evidence that this agreement will reduce consumer bills. Dominguez’s statement

What the numbers do—and do not—mean
890 MW is planned added capacity
This figure refers to additional capacity the companies expect from upgrades across 11 existing nuclear units. It should not be added to the supply figure as though both numbers measured the same thing: the agreement for 2,700 MW covers energy from the existing PJM fleet, while 890 MW is planned capacity growth from uprates. The broader 1.5 GW figure covers Google’s portfolio
Google separately says its efforts have enabled more than 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of new U.S. nuclear capacity through uprates and restarts. That is a broader portfolio figure, not the capacity of the Constellation agreement alone. Google’s announcement

Employment figures are company estimates
Google and Constellation estimate that the work will sustain about 4,400 existing jobs and support about 7,200 new construction jobs. These are company estimates, not independently audited employment results. Joint announcement Google’s announcement
What remains uncertain
The October 6 announcement establishes the companies’ agreements, their stated capacity and investment plans, and the expected timing of the first uprate. It does not establish realized effects on electricity bills, emissions, or grid reliability. Those outcomes will depend on implementation and would require later evidence to assess. How this differs from Constellation’s Amazon agreement
Constellation and Amazon announced a separate 20-year agreement for the Calvert Cliffs plant in Maryland on September 30, 2026. Constellation said that agreement would support more than $3 billion in infrastructure investment and about 190 MW of new generation.
