Craft an enchanting table with a crafting table’s 3×3 grid: use one book, two diamonds, and four obsidian. Put the book in the top-center slot, the diamonds on either side of obsidian in the middle row, and obsidian across the bottom row.

How to get the ingredients
Make or find a book
A book can be crafted from three paper and one leather. Sugar cane is used to make paper. Books and bookshelves can also be found in some generated structures. See the book guide for these sources.

Collect two diamonds
You need two diamonds for the recipe. They can be obtained through mining or loot as part of normal game progression; the advancement guide covers the table’s ingredients.
Mine four obsidian
Mine four obsidian blocks; the cited obsidian guide recommends a diamond pickaxe. Plan for that tool as part of gathering the table’s materials.

What you need to enchant after crafting
Making the table does not enchant an item by itself. To enchant, use the table with lapis lazuli and experience points. Microsoft’s Minecraft Creator documentation describes paying experience points and lapis lazuli when using an enchanting table.
Bookshelves improve the setup
Bookshelves placed around the table can increase its enchanting power. The Minecraft Wiki diamond tutorial gives 15 bookshelves for maximum power and estimates the materials for those shelves at 45 books, 45 leather, 135 paper, and 90 planks. These are the guide’s in-game resource counts; the cited recipe sources do not specify a game version, so check the current edition and version if you need version-specific setup details.
