What the official E-Day material says about Marcus and Dom
In a June 2024 interview with Xbox Wire, The Coalition described E-Day as the origin story of Marcus and Dom’s bond. The studio said the two were best friends and that their connection ran through Dom’s older brother, Carlos, who died on the battlefield with Marcus. The interview places Marcus and Dom in the early stages of forming a kinship around that shared loss.

Studio Creative Director Matt Searcy put the story’s focus this way: “We’re telling the origin story of Marcus and Dom and their bond… this is the bond that defines the franchise.” That is a description of the relationship E-Day explores; it is not confirmation that the game disproves any particular fan theory.

Why the “20-year-old fan theory” claim is unverified
The official interview establishes background for Marcus and Dom, but it does not name a fan theory, quote one, or say that E-Day disproves one. Without knowing which theory the headline means, readers cannot compare the claim with the story details or judge whether the game actually contradicts it. The official sources cited here therefore support a relationship explainer, not a confirmed debunk.

Where E-Day fits in the series
The official Xbox game page places E-Day fourteen years before the original Gears of War. The game follows Marcus and Dom as the Locust Horde first erupts. Xbox describes it as a third-person cover shooter developed by The Coalition and published by Xbox Game Studios.
Xbox lists October 6, 2026 as the release date and Xbox Series X|S and Windows as platforms. Its page also lists Game Pass availability, naming Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass in its FAQ. Availability and subscription details can vary by region.

What the Collector’s Edition includes
The physical-format distinction matters if the lore story has you considering a special edition. In its June 8, 2026 announcement, Xbox Wire said the Xbox Series X Collector’s Edition includes a physical game disc, while the Steam Collector’s Edition includes a digital token rather than a disc. The announced collectibles include a 15-inch statue, replica COG tags, an in-game photograph, an art print, a SteelBook, and collector packaging.
The official editions page also distinguishes the Standard Edition, offered in digital and physical formats, from the digital Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade. Xbox Wire announced an October 1, 2026 launch for the Collector’s Edition and said preorders were available through the Xbox Game Studios Shop and select retailers, subject to limited quantities and regional variation. Those statements do not establish current stock or retailer pricing.
