To check a specific platform, use its live game lobby and official rules rather than relying on a headline or an old list:
- Search the platform’s current lobby for fish table or shooter games, and confirm that the title opens for your account.
- Check the title’s own game information to establish whether it is a shooter or a reel slot and what controls and rules apply.
- Read the platform’s official rules for the currency used, eligibility, redemption conditions, and geographic restrictions.

Can you play fish table games for free?
Some sweepstakes casino descriptions distinguish between Gold Coins, characterized as entertainment-play currency, and Sweeps Coins, characterized as promotional entries. Those labels do not by themselves establish what a particular operator offers, whether a game accepts a given currency, or whether a player can redeem anything. Any possible prize redemption depends on the operator’s official rules and eligibility requirements; it is not a promise of cash winnings.

Before using either currency, check the current rules for how it is obtained, where it can be used, whether it can be redeemed, and any restrictions or conditions. Do not assume that “free,” “promotional,” or “sweepstakes” means a game has no conditions or that play produces a cash prize.

How to compare fish games and platforms
Compare the details that affect the game and your ability to use the platform, not just a promotional headline. Secondary listings can help identify titles to investigate, but only current official rules and live availability can answer whether a title is offered to you.
- Game format: Confirm whether the title is a target-shooting game or a reel slot.
- Current availability: Look for it in the live lobby and check that your account and location can access it.
- Currency: Identify which currency the game accepts and the rules governing that currency.
- Redemption: Read the official conditions for any possible prize redemption rather than treating promotional language as a guarantee.
- Eligibility and location: Check the operator’s current terms and restrictions for your jurisdiction.
- Oversight and recourse: Identify which regulator, if any, oversees the activity and what complaint or dispute process applies. Do not assume that a sweepstakes label or a filed promotion establishes casino approval.

No. Legal treatment and consumer protections vary by jurisdiction, and examples from individual states are not a nationwide legal map or legal advice.

Florida: promotion filings are not casino approval
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says qualifying sweepstakes offering prizes above $5,000 must file their rules and prize lists at least seven days before the promotion begins. The agency also says that accepting a game-promotion filing is not an endorsement, approval, or recommendation, and its FAQ says it does not regulate internet casinos. A Florida filing therefore does not establish that an online casino is approved or lawful in Florida or elsewhere.

Washington: the commission says this model is not authorized
The Washington State Gambling Commission says the sweepstakes casino model described in its FAQ is not authorized in Washington. In that Washington-specific context, the commission states: “No type of gambling activity is legal unless it is explicitly authorized by law.” That statement describes the commission’s position on Washington law; it should not be treated as a summary of every state’s rules.
New Jersey: a 2025 law addresses certain promotional games
New Jersey enacted a 2025 law defining sweepstakes to include certain online promotional games that award a prize or prize equivalent, including through dual-currency systems, and restricting specified pay-to-play participation. The law is a jurisdiction-specific example; its application depends on the law’s terms and circumstances.
New York: reported action involving 26 platforms
In 2025, the New York State Office of the Attorney General said that its office and the state Gaming Commission had identified 26 online platforms offering casino-style games with virtual coins exchangeable for cash and prizes. The office raised concerns about oversight and consumer protections for users of platforms outside licensed casino oversight. This is the agency’s reported action and concern, not a finding about every platform or every state.
These state examples show why a platform’s own eligibility rules and a promotion filing are not substitutes for checking the law and official guidance that apply where you are located.
