Actor Callum Vinson wears prosthetics to play him, but the complete transformed look was still being kept under wraps in an October 6, 2026 report. Gizmodo
What has been revealed about young Jason’s appearance?
Callum Vinson, identified by Entertainment Weekly as 12 years old, plays Jason before the drowning familiar from the franchise’s lore. He wears prosthetics for the role, but the October 6 report says the series is saving the full transformed appearance for its premiere. The available reporting does not establish what the finished design looks like, so there is no confirmed full reveal to describe.

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane describes the makeup approach as grounded and contemporary, saying the creative team is moving away from labels such as “freak” toward “outcast” and “other.” That describes the show’s framing, not a judgment about children with a medical condition.

How does the series portray Jason before the drowning?
Vinson describes the character as a boy who wants to fit in and is bullied because of his head deformation. In this part of the story, Jason has not yet become the murderous figure audiences associate with the franchise. The distinction matters: Crystal Lake is introducing a vulnerable child, not simply showing a smaller version of the adult killer.

Vinson also compared wearing the makeup to putting on a superhero mask, calling the process a lot of work but saying it made him feel cool. Entertainment Weekly’s interview presents these as the young actor’s reflections on the role.
Does Jason wear his familiar hockey mask?
Not in the first season’s story, according to the interview. The familiar hockey mask is associated with Jason in the wider franchise, but Kane says a different mask appears in Crystal Lake and that its origin connects to the story. He also says it is not a mask fans have never seen before. Vinson wore a hockey mask behind the scenes, but that does not mean young Jason wears it in the show’s narrative.

How long did Vinson’s transformation take?
Vinson told Entertainment Weekly that his first full transformation for a screen test took about four-and-a-half hours. The makeup team brought the process down to about an hour and a half for filming. Those figures describe Vinson’s production experience on this series, not a general makeup-industry benchmark.
