Xbox is describing Project Helix as a next-generation family of devices, not yet as one fully specified product. That signals an intention to offer more than one way to play, but it does not confirm how many devices there will be, whether one will be handheld, or what any model will cost or do.
What Xbox has said about Project Helix
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma described the plan in GamesRadar+ coverage of her BBC interview on August 29, 2026: “We’ve been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Project Helix.” She also discussed playing both console and PC games on the console, but the interview coverage did not specify how that access would work across products. A longer explanation appeared in an October 6, 2026, Pure Xbox report, which reproduced remarks attributed to Sharma at an internal town hall and cited Windows Central for the transcript. Sharma reportedly said there is “not one device that fits all,” that Xbox would have “a great console first,” and that many players “will be on the go.” She also said Xbox would manufacture some things itself and partner on others. This is reported speech from an internal meeting, not a formal product announcement. Pure Xbox’s report

What “family of devices” does—and does not—tell players
The wording points to a broader hardware strategy: Xbox is considering ways to serve different player needs rather than assuming one device suits everyone. Multiple form factors, or a mix of Xbox-made and partner-made hardware, are plausible interpretations. They remain interpretations, not a confirmed product roadmap.
The public interview coverage and the town-hall remarks as reported do not establish the number of devices, model names, release dates, prices, technical specifications, disc-drive choices, partner identities, or regional availability. In particular, “players on the go” makes portability worth watching, but does not confirm an Xbox-made handheld. The partner comment does not identify a manufacturer or confirm a partner-built product.

Buy an Xbox now or wait for Project Helix?
Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are current-generation consoles and can serve as present-day comparison points; neither is a Project Helix model. Their existence shows that Xbox has offered different console options before, but does not prove the next generation will follow the same pattern. IGN’s comparison of Xbox Series X and Series S
If you need a console now, compare current options based on your budget, performance needs, whether you want physical media, and the games you play. If you are comfortable waiting, look for model-specific Helix announcements before making a decision based on assumed prices or features. The current statements do not establish whether waiting will save money or produce better value.
