Over Fifty Contents (strata owners) is a sum-insured contents policy arranged by Over Fifty Insurance Pty Ltd as agent for Allianz Australia Insurance Limited. It lists cover for common events such as fire, theft, storm and water damage, but exclusions, waiting periods, optional covers and sublimits determine whether a particular loss is protected. A current quote and the policy documents are essential: CHOICE says it cannot assess this policy’s relative price because the insurer does not share price data.
What is the Over Fifty strata owners policy?
CHOICE identifies the insurer as Allianz Australia Insurance Limited and describes Over Fifty as an Allianz white-label policy. Over Fifty Insurance Pty Ltd arranges the policy as Allianz’s agent. The product is a standard sum-insured policy: you nominate an amount for contents, subject to the policy terms and limits.

CHOICE says the cover is identical to eight other policies in its comparison, but their prices are not necessarily identical. It displays no expert rating and says it scored the policy on cover only because the insurer does not provide price data. That makes a value-for-money verdict impossible from the available comparison; get a current quote and compare it with alternatives on the protection and price you would actually receive. CHOICE’s review and its home insurance comparison overview provide the comparison context.

CHOICE’s review lists insured events including fire and bushfire, smoke, theft and burglary, flood and run-off, storm and cyclone, earthquake, tsunami, explosion, vandalism, riot and civil commotion, impact, and escape of water or other liquids. These are event categories, not a guarantee that every loss associated with an event is covered. The cause of damage, policy definitions, exclusions and conditions matter.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Limits and exclusions that can change the outcome
- Storm surge and action of the sea are excluded in CHOICE’s summary.
- Some damage involving gradual escape of liquid, known defects, poor maintenance, wear and tear, theft by residents or invited people, and contents in common areas is excluded.
- CHOICE lists 72-hour waiting periods for specified natural hazards. Check the current PDS for which hazards and circumstances the waiting periods apply to.
CHOICE’s page also lists legal liability cover up to $20 million. This is a policy limit, not a separate contents sum insured. Check the current wording to understand what liability claims qualify and any exclusions or conditions.
How does it treat strata fixtures and shared areas?
Strata building insurance and your contents policy can cover different interests. The body corporate’s policy may insure the building, while this contents policy may cover your belongings and certain fixtures or improvements that are not insurable by the body corporate. The boundary depends on the building’s strata arrangements and the policy wording, so do not assume a particular fixture is covered just because it is inside your lot.
CHOICE lists examples of fixtures and structural improvements that may be covered when they are not insurable by the body corporate: fixed floor or wall coverings, built-in furniture, air conditioners, ovens, dishwashers, hot-water systems and fixed light fittings. Check the building’s strata insurance documents and the current PDS against any fixture you want to insure.

CHOICE’s review lists a limit of up to $2,000 for contents in a locked basement storage cage and up to $2,000 overall for contents intended to be kept outside. It also identifies contents in common areas among the exclusions. Confirm how the policy defines the relevant spaces and items before relying on cover for property stored beyond your lot.
What sublimits and extra benefits should you check?
The amounts below are figures reported in CHOICE’s review, accessed in 2026; policy terms and limits can change, so verify them in the current PDS and your schedule.
| Item or benefit | CHOICE-listed limit |
|---|---|
| Temporary accommodation | Up to 12 months or 10% of the contents sum insured |
| Pet boarding | Up to $500 |
| Emergency storage | Up to 12 months |
| Debris removal | Up to 10% of the sum insured |
| Visitors’ contents | Up to $5,000 overall |
| Jewellery, artworks and collections | Up to $7,500 overall and $2,500 per item, set or collection |
These limits can leave a gap even when the underlying event is insured. For example, the valuables sublimit may be lower than the replacement value of an item or collection. Check whether an item can be specified separately, what evidence or valuation is required, and whether a different excess or limit applies.

Motor burnout
Motor burnout is another option named on the official page. Review its scope, conditions, excess and price in the PDS and quote rather than assuming it applies to every motor-powered household item.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How much contents cover should a strata owner choose?
Base the sum insured on the cost to replace your belongings, not their second-hand selling price or what you paid years ago. Over Fifty’s official contents insurance page offers a contents calculator as a guide. The insurer says payment will not exceed the loss or the sum insured, whichever is less, subject to policy terms. A low sum insured can therefore cap a claim even when the loss itself is covered.

What should you compare before choosing it?
- Price: Obtain a current quote for your property and compare it with alternatives using the same sum insured, excess and optional covers. CHOICE’s cover comparison does not establish which policy is cheaper.
- Included and optional protection: Check whether accidental damage and portable contents are included or need to be added, and whether motor burnout suits your needs.
- Events, exclusions and waiting periods: Read the current PDS definitions, including water-related exclusions and any 72-hour hazard waiting periods.
- Sublimits: Compare limits for valuables, storage cages, outdoor contents, visitors’ belongings and temporary accommodation with the replacement value or likely costs you need to protect.
- Strata boundaries: Check the body corporate policy and building documents alongside the contents PDS to identify who insures fixtures and improvements.
- Excess and sum insured: Confirm the excess for the cover you want and select a sum insured that reflects replacement costs.
Which documents should you read?
Over Fifty’s official page directs customers to the Home Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), any applicable supplementary PDS and the Home Contents Key Fact Sheet. It cautions that terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply. The page also states: “We do not provide any advice based on any consideration of your objectives, financial situation or needs.” Treat the calculator and product information as tools for your own comparison, not as personal advice.
Start with the Key Fact Sheet for a concise summary, then use the current PDS and any supplementary PDS to check definitions, exclusions, conditions and limits. Finally, compare those terms with the quote and policy schedule, which show the cover and options selected for your policy.
