There is no well-supported, itemized monthly budget for living on Ikaria. The clearest current figures are asking prices for homes for sale—not verified long-term rents—while transport needs vary by village and season, and healthcare costs depend on each resident’s eligibility and care needs. Use the figures below as decision-making clues, not as a guaranteed monthly total.
What the available figures can—and cannot—tell you
The strongest numeric evidence is an August 2026 snapshot of property listings. It does not establish completed sale prices, typical long-term rents, or the total cost of a household’s monthly life on the island. There are no sufficiently sourced figures here for groceries, utilities, heating, internet, routine local transport or personal healthcare costs.

A 2026 online guide publishes rent ranges and all-in totals, but does not provide a clear evidence trail or calculation method. Treat those amounts as unverified estimates, not established local costs. In particular, a single monthly total would imply more certainty than the available evidence supports.

Residential properties for sale
Indomio’s August 2026 listing-market snapshot reports an average residential asking price of €1,983 per square metre across Ikaria. Its listed area figures are:
#1 Best Overall
| Area | Residential sale asking price |
|---|---|
| Agios Kirykos | €1,892/m² |
| Evdilos | €1,894/m² |
| Raches | €2,306/m² |
These are asking prices in listings, not confirmed transaction prices. They do not account for a particular home’s condition, renovation needs, negotiation or legal due-diligence costs. In this snapshot, Raches has the highest listed asking price of the three areas shown. Indomio’s island-level asking-price series was up 12.80% year over year as of August 2026; that change describes its listing series, not the value change of every home. See Indomio’s Ikaria market snapshot.
Long-term rent
Rent figures are less dependable. Indomio shows an island rental asking-price indicator of €1.04/m² per month, but its area data are incomplete: Agios Kirykos is listed at €0.97/m² and Raches at €1.11/m², while Evdilos has no usable rent value. With missing data and a limited listing pool, the island indicator should not be read as a typical rent or used to calculate a reliable monthly housing budget.
Rank #2
GetGreece’s 2026 guide claims one-bedroom rents of €350–€550 in Agios Kirykos/Evdilos and €300–€500 outside central or coastal locations, plus central three-bedroom rents of €600–€950. The guide does not make its underlying evidence or calculation method clear, so these ranges are unverified estimates rather than dependable benchmarks. Check current, year-round rental listings and ask landlords directly about lease length and seasonal conditions before budgeting.
Transport: the right plan depends on village and season
Visit Ikaria describes the island as having an extensive and difficult road network
. Its transport guidance lists cars and motorcycles, taxis, municipal buses, walking and sea travel as options; its travel tips say buses operate only during summer months. That makes the exact route and season important: check how you would reach work, shops and appointments before deciding you can rely on public transport.
The available sources do not establish dependable monthly costs for owning or using a vehicle, fuel, taxis or regular bus travel. A car or motorcycle may be useful for some residents, but the evidence does not support a universal transport budget or claim that every household needs one. Visit Ikaria’s transport guidance and travel tips describe the options and seasonal bus information.
Ferries are a separate travel or moving expense, not a measure of routine local transport spending. 12ne publishes a 2026 passenger-and-vehicle fare schedule, but a usable total depends on the route, travel date and fare class. Check the operator’s current schedule for a specific journey: 12ne’s 2026 passengers and vehicles fares.
Rank #4
Healthcare: facilities are listed, but personal costs are not
Visit Ikaria lists a general hospital in Agios Kirykos and health centers in Evdilos, Raches and Karkinagri. It also lists private doctors who see patients by appointment and for remuneration. The existence of a facility does not establish that it provides a particular specialty, has a particular appointment wait, or can meet an individual’s ongoing care needs.

The tourism guidance is written for visitors. It mentions documentation that can help EU visitors receive a substantial part of care, but it does not settle the public-system eligibility, registration steps, charges, waiting times or insurance needs of every person relocating to Greece. Its estimates of private doctor fees and private insurance are not independently substantiated as local rates. Before relying on a specific care pathway, verify your own eligibility and registration with current official Greek healthcare sources, then ask local providers about services, referrals, charges and availability.

Rather than applying an unsupported island-wide total, build a budget around your own village, housing arrangement, travel pattern and healthcare circumstances. Separate one-off moving or purchase expenses from recurring costs.
Quick Recap
- Get a year-round housing quote. Confirm the lease term, monthly rent, included services and whether the accommodation remains available outside the tourist season. For a purchase, assess condition, renovation and due-diligence costs separately from the asking price.
- Test the route you will actually use. Check transport for your village, destination and time of year. Confirm whether the bus operates when you need it, and price the alternatives you would realistically use, such as a personal vehicle or taxi.
- Keep ferry and relocation costs separate. Look up the current fare for your route, date and passenger or vehicle class; do not count a one-time move as a recurring local transport cost.
- Confirm healthcare arrangements for your situation. Establish your eligibility and registration route, and ask relevant facilities about the care you need and its charges before assuming visitor guidance applies to you.
- Price the unverified monthly essentials locally. Obtain current quotes for utilities, heating, internet and groceries rather than filling evidence gaps with national averages.
