“Good to go” usually means an NFL player is expected to be available to play, but it is informal wording—not an official injury designation or a guarantee he will take the field. For a particular game, check the latest official game-status report and then the game-day inactive list.
Is “good to go” an official NFL injury status?
No. The NFL’s formal game-status designations are Questionable, Doubtful, and Out. “Good to go” is everyday wording used in coverage or by a player or coach to suggest expected availability. It does not replace the official report, and the NFL does not publish a probability for that phrase.

What do Questionable, Doubtful, and Out mean?

| Doubtful | It is unlikely the player will participate. |
| Out | The player will not play. |
These definitions come from the NFL’s 2016 injury-report policy announcement. The announcement also explains that the league eliminated “Probable” after approximately 95 percent of players given that designation in prior years played. That historical figure concerns the discontinued Probable label; it is not a current estimate for Questionable players or for anyone called “good to go.”

Does full practice mean the player will play?
No. Practice participation and game status are separate parts of the injury report. A player can participate fully in practice and still be listed as Questionable or Out for the game. The NFL’s injury-report page presents those statuses separately; check the latest dated report rather than treating a practice entry as a playing decision.

The NFL’s 2016 policy announcement says players considered certain to play would no longer receive a game-status designation, although they could still appear on the practice report. That policy summary also describes league review of unexpected deactivations in that circumstance. For current-season enforcement details, consult current NFL policy rather than assuming the older summary is unchanged.
How should you check whether a player is available?
- Find the latest injury report for the team and game. Read its date and game-status column, not just the practice-participation entry.
- Interpret the formal designation as written. Questionable means uncertain, Doubtful means unlikely, and Out means the player will not play; the NFL policy does not assign percentage odds to these labels.
- Check the game-day inactive list. Availability can be game-specific, and a prior quote or report may no longer reflect the final decision.
Does “good to go” override concussion protocol?
No. Concussion return follows a separate NFL return-to-participation process. The NFL says there is no set timeframe for return; team medical staff consider the player’s current concussion, prior exposures, medical and family history, and future risk. A player’s or coach’s informal description does not override medical evaluation or the required protocol. See the NFL’s concussion return-to-participation protocol.
